  1. I called Skoda Customer Services today as dealer is not planning to give me a SatNav DVD as "maps are pre-loaded on Columbus". Skoda CS say that when I take the car in for servicing, dealership will update satnav firmware and maps if updates are available. Not sure I believe that, but will give it a try. Any way I expect new Elegance next week to have V8 maps. I may be able to get a look at the V8 DVD the dealer has.... and potentially V9 when it arrives, officially.
  2. Clocks. Late 60's / early 70's comedy on DVD. Books about Inspector Morse...
  3. http://lifecc.skoda-...?model=3T469630 - Superb Elegance http://www.skoda-auto.com/GBR/mini-apps/Pages/cc.aspx - all models Seems you can access the new configurator directly, although Skoda UK website says it is offline :-) Depressing to see that if you ordered a Skoda in Ireland, you can have DAB option on the Columbus. Also many other options not available in the UK.
  4. https://tools.skoda.co.uk/brochure_superb.pdf Changes noticed so far: Superb Outdoor New Colour (Shark Blue)
  5. Not had that offer either time.... but it could be a good angle to use......
  6. Options: Find out if he has pet insurance, as it might cover it. Demand a claim on his house insurance.... as previous poster suggests Find out how much to repair the device if it can be repaired, and ask him for that amount, politely, PLUS assurance that the dog is not allowed to get loose If that all falls on dead ears, then explain that £500 won't grow on trees and therefore it will go to small claims court / and or police if the dog is becoming a nuisance and the owner won't take responsibility? I guess all that has to be tempered with stuff like if the owner is elderly and would find it hard to keep the dog from getting loose etc etc so reasonableness all around....
  7. I've just done a deal on a new superb using both 0% VAT equivalent deal and 0% APR over 2 years from Skoda Finance. To be honest, it took me a moment or two to get it sorted in my head (maths never my strong point). I think I have it right below but do feel free to make clearer if not! The dealership cannot sell a vehicle without charging VAT, hence why it's a VAT equivalent deal. In preparing the quote, the dealer will total up all the costs without VAT i.e. list price + cost of factory extras + cost of dealer fitted accessories (e.g. mudflaps). They will then discount that total amount by 16.666666666% to give a discount equivalent to the amount of VAT you would pay on the total. E.g. car + options would cost £15,000 without VAT. A discount equivalent to vat is 16.67% of that, i.e. £2,500 making the actual cost of the car (before VAT) £12,500. Then vat is added to that reduced amount, at 20% - so £12,500 + 20% VAT = £15,000 - this is the amount you are paying, the same as the price without VAT. So normally you would have paid £15,000 + VAT = £18,000, so your actual discount is £3000. What's worth remembering is that delivery is not subject to the discount, neither are road fund tax and first registration fees. What you want to see is the dealer making that 16.67% discount larger, which will further discount the car over and above the VAT offer. I achieved 2% further discount. I'm sure others would do better / could do better but in my own situation this was a very good deal, so I stopped negotiating when I was happy with the result and was still being offered the better coffee in the dealership :-) Also, the final price came in below the What Car? recommended "most you should pay" amount and that was not taking into account a load of options over the base spec. For the 0% finance, you do have to lay out 50% of the final price, which would typically be made up from deposit and maybe trade in of previous car. But you're owning the whole car after two years, so residuals much higher at that point. I haven't posted much before so hope this was helpful.....
  8. I ordered a new Superb Elegance 140CR 6G Manual Hatchback from a local dealership on 14th September (accepted by Skoda UK the same day so I could check the correct options were specified). This is to replace existing Superb SE (59 plate). Today I received a call with news that the car has arrived in the UK, being released from the docks soon and hopefully ready for collection next weekend, 17th Nov. The dealer had the new reg. number ready for me so I could pre-arrange my work parking permit and insurance. Assuming it's ready to that timescale I make that 2 months and 3 days - which seems pretty good! Spec as follows: Amethyst Purple Metallic Space saver spare wheel Park Assist Auto dimming RVM Sound System & MDI Wood Decor Heated Washer Nozzles Mats / Mudflaps Bought with the 0% finance and 0% vat equivalent deals, plus small additional discount. Will post pictures when it's arrived...
  9. About 10 years ago I bought twenty large trade glasses cleaning cloths (12"x10") from Calotherm directly. You can probably still get them direct (even though not advertised but they are the same as these ones: http://www.three-sixty.org.uk/spectacle-accessories/lens-cloths/calotherm-professional-microfibre-cloths.html They start life as glasses cloths and camera lens cleaners. Then move them onto LCD panels and TV screens. Then onto - well anything else really, but especially car windows inside and out along with FastGlass. I rinse them by hand in cold water to remove the bulk of any cleaning products then just run them through a cotton wash in the machine and they are as good as new. Anyone any ideas how to stop the build up of that mucky grease on the inside of the windscreen in the first place? An interior RainX would be great :-)
  10. I have noticed that on my Superb with the 140pd engine. Does the same happen with the 140CR? I'm about three weeks off taking delivery of a new Superb Elegance with the 140 CR engine...
  11. I've decided to leave a company car scheme where I'm driving an A6, and buy a Skoda Superb SE model. I looked at the latest Passat, and just found poor implementation of features that the A6 does well - e.g. the electronic parking brake. I also found many features - e.g. the push in starter key that were gimmicky at least, and felt less well made than the fisher price toys my children had years ago and still work :-) The Superb on the other hand was surprising - I got inside it and thought - hmm - this feels like the A6. Oh - the key is the same, these controls on the steering wheel feel the same, etc etc. Actually I much preferred the layout of the controls on the Superb - the control wheel in the A6 is a fun toy to start with, then frankly gets to be rather annoying after a long time. It's not that intuitive. Drive wise, the 140TDI superb was less "dynamic" than the petrol 2.0TFSI A6, but that's fine - it's a very comfortable ride (as far as I could tell so far anyway). The passat was floaty and inprecise by comparison. Lastly - the twindoor. Nicely done - I can imagine times when I'll use it - and be glad about it. That would be a £1500 option on an A6. Basically I feel good about spending my own money on a Skoda Superb with all the features it has - and can't see why I'd spend considerably more money on an A6.
  12. Thanks for the useful information. UK Skoda MY2010 ordered today: SE Trim (next level up in UK is elegance) Steel Grey Metallic Front Parking Sensors Sound System Dimming Rear Mirror Bi-Xenon Lamps with AFS Mats Full Size Steel Spare Wheel Very glad I checked the dealer's system, because it is correct about the pneumatic kit. Also, the UK brochure doesn't list Xenon as an option on the SE, but it was available to order.
  13. Hi I am just about to order a new superb II so would be also very grateful for any clear list or guidance. I would like to avoid the repair kit for example and also would like to see about MDI. If you could spare the time to send us the list or post it privately I would appreciate your help. thanks Chadlington
