  1. You're going to be disappointed. Spec wise, the Rapid is on a par with the Fabia in terms of available options, but then it is a budget car costing around half of the Kia you mention.

What does the Kia have that the Yeti doesn't out of interest?

Someone mentioned that KIA are filling the "cheap quality" gap. Might be good value (haven't looked at the specs in detail) but I certainly wouldn't call a £27,000 list price cheap!

A far better specification as standard, if I want a built in Sat Nav on Yeti, I have to pay extra for it, if I want the off road protection I have to pay extra for it, a Yeti has a pathetic sized boot, Sportage has a boot bigger than an Octavia. Sportage has a level boot, Yeti - Pay extra for it.

And then there's the warranty of 7 years, then there's not a 6-7 month waiting list either for a Sportage, the Sportage is now starting to get nearly the same residuals as a Yeti...

  2. I paid about 18k for my Octavia vRS? How is that the same as 27k, just asking.

If you've got a basic manual vRS then that's about right, however I want DSG + a whole load of extras & when it comes to adding it all up it comes to nearly £26½k. The benefit of the Sportage is not only is it fully specced from the outset, but it has 4WD + 7 Year warranty.

Having seen the value of my Octy "bomb" then I think I may have to look elsewhere, as I said previously, as I live out in the sticks, the 4WD will be very useful indeed especially if the bad weather we've been getting in the winter is going to become the norm, it also means I can get through floods a bit easier too.

  3. The Sportage I'm looking at is £26,945, which is about the same as a vRS & is cheaper than a Yeti, yet comes better specced that both of them, and if you spec up the either of them then the difference is even more pronounced.

OK it's not as fast as a vRS or Yeti, but it's still capable of just under 120, which is academic and the best thing of all is it has 4WD which a vRS doesn't have, which as I'm someone who lives out in the sticks will find quite useful.

I will still wait & see what the Rapid specification throws up though.

  4. If it's any consolation several years ago I had my card cloned and it wasn't until I went to withdraw cash that I found out.

I rung them, told to destroy my card immediately, after they told me I had been in Marseilles, Lyon, Paris, Eurodisney & Madrid, all within 36-48 hours, impossible as I was driving trains on the dates concerned, my company proved that to the bank with their records.

I was told to report it to the police. Surrey police... About as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike! smiley-taunt001.gif

The ar$€holes swiped £6500 from my account, luckily my account carried insurance against such things and I got all of my money back within 24 hours of the last fraudulent payment going out. New card was with me within 72 hours, that was Lloyds bank, who were brilliant.

I had another security scare at KFC in Woking, in March when I paid for a meal, the terminal that I used my card with had an odd looking display and was a pain to use & the staff kept staring at me & looking at the payment terminal + muttering in a either Russian or other Eastern Bloc language.

I was at this point I became suspicious, popped around the corner, withdrew £120 & then contacted the bank about my suspicions, they cancelled my card & issued a new one for me which was with me within 72 hours, they were told that if any foreign transactions were made to annul them, as I wasn't going anywhere abroad for the foreseeable future.

I also alerted the Police, who this time took notice. :o

I haven't had any problems since though & yes my account is insured against fraud & theft.

If I go abroad now I use a prepaid/preloaded currency card + a small amount of cash for incidentals such as tolls (safer).

  5. Now I've read the AE first drive in print, I don't think that was a very good or favourable review of the car at all. In fact it says it's noisy at motorway speeds & isn't very good on the suspension.

It's really putting me off this. I only hope they were pre-production models otherwise this will bomb.

  6. Saw photos for the Rapid first time today. I feel decidely underwhelmed by its outside looks but the the interior looks very smart. As others have said, the car looks good in red. Especially as red is my colour......

Hasnt got a very good write up in Autocar regarding the ride, but they may be a pre production example.

I've found that unless it's a posh car Autocar usually looks down on it with great disdain. So I wouldn't worry about what it says too much.

  7. Well I've had nowt since I did it.

I get the odd one or two phishing ones, but they just get binned. Had two tonight on about my refund on two airline tickets from Montgomery (one of them in the USA) to Washington.

    That would be a tad difficult, 1: I don't have a visa. 2: I don't fly by any means 3: I don't like America. :bandit:

  8. Google is your friend... "outlook junk email filter"

    Or switch to Thunderbird.

I used a method on several companies and that was I did BCC to them with their reply addresses copied into the recipients box at least 100-200x (C&P) and then put in the message in very large BLOCK CAPITALS

F**KING WELL STOP SPAMMING ME! & I set my computer to do that at least 10-20 times overnight or until the mails bounced because their mailbox was full.

I've also done it to several large companies who kept on faxing my phone line, the last one got 500 pages telling them to stop. It worked.

  9. I use a Canon 28-135 IS USM as a walkaround lens it serves me very well, OK you lose a bit at the wide end, but I find that it does suffer a bit with distortion. The drawback is it's ~£20 more but I think it's more usable throughout the range.

  10. Depends on the usage.

If you want a performance item such a a laser mouse which works on all surfaces including glass surfaces then you're going to have to pay more than the trash that comes out of Maplins.

If you want something that's good & robust then pay at least £20, not a £2 piece of junk.

  11. Until a few weeks ago the proud owner of a Suzuki GSX-R 750 K7 (TT-Edition).

I sold it for £4½k, now regretting it :'( and looking for a new toy, I quite like to look of the '12 CBR1000RR Fireblade, but at £12k it's going to take some saving up, so may have to wait until about August before I can commit to it.

Was thinking of the Ducati Panigale but the insurance premium of £1k + £1k excess killed the idea stone dead.

  12. The OP has already mentioned about certain symptoms such as driver & connectivity issues, you could get email or phone assistance with such issues if you are prepared to pay a little extra for them.

A student mouse should be of the premium kind as it will probably get more use & abuse than most mice.

  13. Not as stupid as you paying a tenner for a replacement receiver or messing about with a warranty claim for a mouse that cost £2.

You're wrong there as I wouldn't be so naive as to pay £2 for a mouse, I pay for quality not rubbish. Still if you want to waste money on cheap crap, then be my guest. Just don't complain about it when it goes wrong & you have to buy a new one & you don't get the level of customer support you do from buying a reasonably priced premium product.
