  1. don't worry too much about the mayo, as thes engines are prone to allowing condensation forming inside in the cold weather, and it can be this moisture that forms the mayo. i agree that it could be smoking rather than steaming (easy to confuse on these nippy mornings). Get it Vag Com read, and you will see if the temp sensor is the culprit

    HTH :nerd:

  2. Well pleased they came in so cheap.

While I'm here.. Anyone know if the trim the mirror control clips into is a separate part or is it a whole new joystick required? If it is the whole control anyone got an idea of price?

What with the leaks my cards been off and on so many times the clip gave up and now it keeps bungee jumping.

It's a whole unit I'm afraid. I got one a while back, and IIRC it's less then £20.00, but can't find the receipt at the mo.

  3. Know anybody with an enclosed garage? Put it in there for the day with the doors open and a fan heater in the back?

Also run the a/c whenever you are in the car as this dehumidifies the air coming into the car, regardless of whether it is cooling the air

  4. A recent thread on this subject is here <--------clicky, clicky,

or another that gives more details here <-------------------- clicky

You need 205/40/17 tyres to keep the right rolling radius to avoid issues with rubbing, speedo accuracy and rolling resistance.

5x100 are right, but i'm not certain on the offset for the Fabia, it maybe et38

There are loads of threads on this subject, so try the search, it's what it's there for:thumbup:

  5. I have four 5w independently switchable rear interior lights running off exactly the same front interior light in my 2001 fabia without any issues, but that is with 34mm festoon LEDs, and with the bulbs in the unit iteslf swapped for a 38mm festoon LED and two 501 type LEDs.

In fact I am also considering fitting a further four 5w (again with LEDs, but 501 type) footwell lights from the unit as well, so I hope the unit is up to it

    HTH

  6. Yep, that's what Sundays are for - taking the door cards off (again) and plugging the leaks.:(

My difficulty is getting the inside of the door dry enough to stop the water dripping through the sealant as it sets!

I used the opportunity of the door cards being off to fit puddle lights to the bottom of the front doors (spliced to the red warning lights), in the somewhat optomistic hope that there will be more water on the outside to look out for than on the inside

I'll see when i get back to the open car park at the end of the day whether or not this attempt has finally stopped the leaks

  7. Congratulations:thumbup:

Isabelle Suzanne Walrus was born on Wednesday morning (armistice day - she is the angel of peace!) at 6.26am.

Bit she won't observe the 2 minutes silence though:rofl:

You've got all those sleepness nights and nuclear waste filled nappies to look forward to now:eek:

  8. Cheers, noticed it looked more clogged than normal when I looked today.

Would using a thicker (lower visosity (sp)?) oil help to reduce the emulsification?

    as vRSLen says, but..

If you have worn rings and you are losing oil into the combustion chambers, a thicker oil will have less tendancy to get past the rings, so may assist in your oil usage, and carboning up of the valves/seats and combustion chambers in the long run.

Remember though, with higher viscosity oil the oil pressure will increase, so if there are any weak spots in the oil ways/gaskets using a higher viscosity oil can cause these to go prematurely compared to using the correct thinner viscosity.

It is all a question of balancing the needs of an older engine I'm afraid, and there is no right solution in relation to changing the viscosity slightly.

  9. Good advice from Simbo99 there (you're making a habit of it now:D)

Your ignition key fits in the slot to lever the fuse box lid off on the dash!

Try swapping the bulbs left to right before you go any further, as it is always possible that the new bulb is a duff one too:thumbup:

  10. Thanks for the quick replies guys:thumbup:

I have just checked, and I have no brake lights:eek:

Must be the switch has failed or needs attention. Off to the dealers tomorrow for a new switch (I now know that this is on its at least 2nd revision) as can't be too expensive and this appears to be a very known issue.

The search on here doesn't seem to be working all that well, as when I put in "brake light switch" I got loads of threads which talked about the EPC light, but they don't appear when you put in "EPC"

Will invest in one of those scanners if I need to clear the fault once I have replaced the switch.

EDIT: there is also this guide http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/brake-light-switch/32460/ on here for swapping the switch out if this helps anybody else with the same problem

  11. Is there anybody who can help with a VAG-COM read of any fault codes on a 2001 1.4 16v (AUB) Fabia that now is showing the EPC warning light.

The guy on the VAG-COM map hasn't been around since 2007, so I'm not holding out too much hope.

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated

    Cheers:thumbup:

  12. My 2001 furby has thrown a hissy fit, and now proudly shows the EPC light on the dash.

I have no other symptoms, and the manual rather helpful says take it to the dealer. I've done a search, and after skimming through the 500 results for warning light and 0 results for EPC I am none the wiser.

I have PM'd the guy in Leeds on the VAG-COM map, but he hasn't been on here since 2007, so I am not holding my breath.

The main question at this point is should I still be driving it, and secondly any ideas on the cause and possible fixes to try prior to getting some fault codes out of VAG-COM (I may have to travel further afield to get a friendly briskodian with VAG-COM)

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated:thumbup:
