  1. I've used CCleaner for many years, and it has never caused an issue yet, BUT, recent versions arent cleaning parts of the windows folder. I got Wyse suggested on another forum, and it does a better job than CCleaner, to the tune of an extra 1.9GB of crud removed from just this one folder. And this one folder is the cause of a lot of system slowdowns, as M$ dont clean it up properly after installing/deleting programs and updates, so it gets bigger and bigger and bigger......... When I checked last month, mine was twice the size of my original Win7 install, and I did a fresh install less than a year ago.
  2. Just a suggestion, as you have the idea it might be someone with a view of your mums bedroom. Extending the "phone from a call box" suggestion, get some friends to go to the door of each house just as you are about to make the call, and see if they can hear a phone ringing. You might get lucky. Hang up and then redial, just to make sure it wasnt random luck.
  3. The necropost above has reminded me of something. Bluestacks2 is supposed to let you run Android apps on a windows PC. I havent tried it yet, so cannot confirm if it works, let alone if it works for watching downloaded films, nor if this would still be legal. Personally, I say bugger them, if they wont provide a service, I will rip and make my own.
  4. Check what you are paying for, a friend on BT was paying similar until a couple of months ago for 38MB Infinity capped package - with BT adding all the bells a whistles like BT Sport (never watched), Anytime calls (uses his mobile), answering serives (has a machine) etc. One request for info on how to leave and they gave him unlimited 80Mb (tops out around 54Mb for him) at £33 Pm inc line rental, and stopped all the unneeded extras.
  5. Rumour has it that the new boards will not be cheap, AMD going for higher prices for perceived value al la Apple?? I dont know. They will have to substantially beat INTEL, because a pound gets you a penny, INTEL have plenty of extra performance in reserve, they just dont want to put it on the market until they have to.
  6. http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2016/12/customers-broadband-isp-fast-co-uk-firenet-face-shock-cut-off.html Switch today or have no internet over Christmas.
  7. I'm glad to hear it isnt the board dying, mine was a great board and I was sad to throw it away.
  8. I love how the "security" codes are nearly all hard wired to 0000 or 1234, so very, VERY secure.
  9. Its been screwed for at least the whole of this century, but inconsistently; I had exactly the same happen over a long period back in 2004/5 when it would show GBs of use even when the router was switched off and I was overseas. BT will NEVER admit to it, it would probably open them up to losing billions in repayments to overcharged customers.
  10. Hence by Birmingham Screwdriver comment back at the beginning. If you dont have one, an Electricians hammer will do in a pinch
  11. Was it Currys by any chance, and cost you £805??
  12. Check that the car unit has space to accept another BT pairing; I had to delete a couple of old pairings a few days ago, as mine had run out of space and wouldnt pair with my new phone. And yeah, iPhones use a strange variation of BT, that not everything works with.
  13. Mine was an ex review copy from when it was launched (2008??), but I have had issues with two other Asus boards falling apart in the last few years, so I am really wary about buying them; which is a pity, because they used to be rock solid. I replaced it with a similar spec MSI board; because the MSI board came out later, it takes a better range of cpus and RAM, my current 1090T was the best chip the Asus board would support, but the MSI board takes the later FX chips as well, so I still have upgrade potential.
  14. Sorry, I should have been clearer, the M$ update bug currently buggering up peoples computers at random affects WIn8/8.1 and Win10. EDIT Asus M4A88TD-M EVO I had the same board, I ditched it earlier this year after it starting playing up and not recognising SATA drives; it turned out one of the SATA channels was dying - and took out the attached SSD with it when it finally went, about a fortnight later
  15. OOOP,s meant to say CAN remember. (Its been a bad few days)
  16. If it is a dual BIOS machine, you might have to reset both chips, heard of similar issues in the past. Also heard one rumour that the botched M$ update that is knocking loads of people offline has caused a BIOS corruption. If I can recall where I read it, I will go and see if there have been any updates to that story. And you all laughed at me for refusing a free "upgrade" to Windows 10.
  17. You can get UV LED bulbs, but last time I looked, they were not cheap. Mind you, I cant remember when blue LEDs were £12 each.
  18. AHH! Sorry, when you were talking light box, I was thinking photography, not pcb design and masking.
  19. Also consider LED undercounter/trim lights on a flexible strip; I got some from Lidl 2 Christmas' ago and they were eye seeringly bright; about 3-5m in length in think they were (not got the decorations out yet). Frequency or temperature?? LEDs are usually run on DC, so there shouldnt be any 50hz flicker, the shade of white is referenced by the colour temperature. 4000K, 6000K etc. But you already knew that.
  20. Try Heavens-Above Home Page You might find it useful to locate what you want to look at, just enter your viewing location as closely as possible and select the time you intend to be out viewing. Also great for satellite spotting (like train spotting, but more difficult to get the numbers off of the sides)
  21. My sympathies, I hope it gets better. I have been left with impaired vision after NHS drug treatments, luckily for me it wasnt enough to stop me driving, and there has been a slow improvement since taking a daily supplement to help them. Sadly, with the NHS, it doesnt matter what the side effects are - as long as it is cheap.
  22. Have you considered LED strip lights?? A lot less complicated, less power and probably last a lot longer. And the box will be a lot lighter.
  23. Really? I am sure I read of issues with the last update killing some iMacs
  24. OK, if they come up with an Australian make, how about Ozspray.Ozbourne.
