  1. They look really good mate but that's scary money for a set of wheels! BTW, would you be the same oobster that was a member of sidc with a red blobeye scooby?
  2. Thanks for the link. I meant he's going to drill through the bush then cut round it with his hacksaw and pop it out in 2 pieces.
  3. Cheers mate. My brother says it shouldn't be too difficult with his air hacksaw but agreed, that is poor for a kit costing £300 or so.
  4. Hi mate, not sure how far your willing to travel but my bro works in chatham skoda at sighthill Edinburgh as a skoda tech, let me know if your interested and I can pass on your number.
  5. My brothers a skoda tech so no issues there, thanks for the heads up though, will search for your thread now too!!!
  6. I just renewed my insurance last month, previous year was £265 renewal was £380 via admiral. Done the usual comparison surfingand got nowhere cheaper. Phoned them up and got a loyalty discount taking it back to £315 so proof that they can help out a bit. Standard vrs tdi 2007 plate, me 34yr old max ncb no points, wife 32 3 points for cd10 she's got a touran sport and that was only £250 to renew but pretty much same as last year.
  7. Thanks Damian, I'll email about price matching then as Venom Motorsport are slightly cheaper than what your offering just now, if only by a couple of quid. james.
  8. Can anyone give me there opinions on the above kit please? Would prefer someone that has actually used them than mere opinions. Thing I'm struggling with is the diameters.26mm front/23mm rear just screams understeer but apparently the standard skoda bars are thicker at the front than the rear anyway. Help!
  9. Cool. I 'm going down the STS route so it won't matter anymore.
  10. Thanks guys. I've just heard back from Ben on email re the STS unit. It appears that it is just as good as going to see him but without any of the draw backs of driving 5 hours each way for me at least. It also appears that the vag group of cars have intelligent ecu's so learn your style of driving and arrange the power delivery/full economy to suit you as you drive. This is different in my previous experience of tuning subaru's. In any case, Ben has really put my mind at ease and I'll be going for the STS kit shortly. This news won't please my brother however who has a Fabia vRS and was looking to get his car mapped at the same time as me. Can't please them all eh :'(
  11. Nice one Brimma, point well proven. I am considering the self tuning system but need convincing on it's abilities. Is it ever going to be as good as getting Ben to tune the car himself ? I want to get away from having a generic map, would rather pay extra for someone who knew what they were doing.
  12. Looks live I started a war on here, not bad considering I'm barely over 10 posts !!!! I've always been a bit of a boy racer/tuner or whatever you want to call me. Previous car was an Impreza with a little over 400bhp but had to give it up before I got banned (again8-() or killed myself. Had it for 3 happy years mind you. Anyway, I would be more than happy to get a remap done by Mark as I've read reviews and forum responses galore and haven't found a bad word about him or his maps. Only problem for me is that I'm away up in Edinburgh so will need to put some serious miles in to get it done. Also, covering the distance to and from Bens without the wife finding out could be an issue !
  13. Cool. I've only had the car since the end of December 09 and my daily journey to/from work is a mixture of A1 and city driving (around 17 miles each way) but never had to regen it yet. I think I'll still consider a remap but will shop around for a reputable tuner before jumping in. Thanks again, James.
  14. same thing for me, in 2nd it's fine so nothing that I'm concerned about. I may just have to approach the corner faster in 3rd to resolve the problem !! lol.
  15. Cheers. So dpf regen will increase but that's to be expected then yeah ? I've never had to regen the dpf as yet but understand how to if the light pops on Is p-torque near carlisle then?
  16. Thanks for the info. I am also assuminghowever your responses are in relation to a petrol vrs and not a tdi vrs like mine ?
  17. I'm sure this has been asked to death but is there a consensus on which cars will have dpf issues once remapped or is it a hit or miss ??? Really considering a remap by Shark (probably the self tuning route) as I cant be bothered with the drive to and from Edinburgh. Nowhere local seems any good and having read about problems wth Celtic Tuning maps being torque happy at low rpm and nothing else I've opted not to go with them. It did seem to good to be true in that my nearest dealer offered to remap my car for £200 !! He did mention however that he'd never mapped a 170 vrs before so confidence faded quickly. Any help/advice greatly appreciated. Also, some advice on what else to consider at the same time as mapping e.g. replacement filter, dpf removal etc etc. James.
  18. I get a similar feeling in 3rd at exactly 1250rpm when accelerating. judder repeats itself perhaps 3 or 4 times then clears. Happens every time on the way to work at the same corner. strange.
  19. being new to the Skoda tuning game, what's stage 2? Assuming stage 1 is a remap and a filter change.
  20. I did join a while ago but that was when I was looking for ideas before making a purchase. That purchase came a lot quicker than intended due to my 2nd car (mk4 Golf GT TDI) melting it's gearbox tuesday last week. Had enough of throwing money at it so decided to take the plunge !!
  21. Hi all, new to the site but not owners clubs. Will be my first Skoda, pick it up on Monday afternoon. 57 plate vrs saloon in Race Blue. Never thought I would see the day I'd be driving a Skoda, tbh though, the car well surpassed my expectations. Bro is a Skoda Technician and he's got a fabia vrs with a few tweeks so I had a fair idea of what the car would be like. Seriously looking forward to many years of "happy motoring" James
  22. I think the ltd edition vrs's are the grey ones in the A5 shape (Octavia II) with the tasty seats
  23. Been driving since 1994, got 0 points but a DD40 on my licence from 4 years ago, I achieved a 12 month ban, £500 fine and had to sit an extended test resit. Passed that first time though ! Was sick of the police pulling me over for nothing so failed to stop, ran a couple of red lights speeding etc etc. I'm 33 and not ashamed to say I was a boy racer in my day. I can remember having points on my licence for speeding on 3 seperate occasions. Having a family now calms you down quite a lot and owning a diesel car makes you more mpg conscious too.
