  1. I'm guessing claying is as successful as finding the right solvent to remove it?

I don't see it being a mojor problem putting it on top of old stuff as long as it's as clean as possible.

I only have 1 ampule left and don't want to make an **** of it.

It is good stuff though, it also hacks my wife off when I refuse to put the wipers on.:rofl:

  2. I applied some Aquapel just after the group buy and it now looks like scales on a fish post wipe.

It looks almost like the coating is cracking and breaking down.

I am going to apply a second coat but apart from cleaning the screen is there anything I need to do in preperation?

I clayed the screen and gave it a thorough clean the first time but not sure if the first coat needs to be removed or if it just goes straight on top.

I'm driving from just out side Edinburgh to Zennor near St Abbs at the end of the month and want the car tip top for the journey.

  3. If you're with Virgin you can get a free wireless router on the medium (10 meg) package and above. They are also doing half price for 6 months on that package I think.

I did this recently and it was a Netgear router that they sent out to me.

I was an existing customer and just upgraded from the lower package.

  4. I'm getting a replacement roof lining and A pillar trims replaced on my Passat Sport by a windscreen company and wondered if I'm likely to experience and issues after.

I hate rattles and squeaks so am apprehensive.

The managed to get the black adhesive all over the head lining and trims which I cleaned what I could off but once it set there was no removing it.

Crazy price as well which luckily I'm not having to pay,

£270 parts and £410 labour plus courtesy car fee.

I'm not sure how they'll get the new lining into the car without creasing it with it being a saloon with a fairly narrow boot and all the glass being in place.

At least if they make a hash of it it's up to them to replace it.

  5. The computer figures on both our Passats are very accurate to within 0.2 mpg.

I agree the 1.9 is more fuel efficient it's not as big a difference as people are suggesting over the 2 litre.

My driving style doesn't change between the cars and the 2 litre on mixed conditions comes out at about 52mpg and the 1.9 is about 57mpg and I have a heavy commuter drive in the mornings.

If it's all about saving money then obviously the 1.9 makes more sense but it's not solely down to fuel, you need to take in insurance, road tax, depreciation and servicing. To be honest there isn't going to be a great deal in it and the 2 litre is just so much nicer to drive.

  6. I have a 1.9 tdi 105 and a 2l tdi140 both are Passat but the same engines.

The 1.9 is definitely more economical but only has a 5 speed gear box and is an 8 valve so less refined.

I'd say the 1.9 is quick enough just for everyday driving conditions but needs to be worked fairly hard. As you've mentioned that it can be remapped but I'm waiting until after the warranty expires.

The 2 litre is easier to drive and is the least diesel diesel I've driven. It pulls more like a petrol and the power is smooth and quieter (16 valve).

The 2 litre isn't that much less economical but the figures decrease quicker when pushing on or stuck in traffic.

If it were down to me I'd go for the 2 litre as it's easier as standard as come resale time more desireable I would have thought.

  7. "Looks like the Stig's helmet"

I guess you mean the one on his head or have you seen inside his racing suit?:rofl:

The pricing will take everyone away from the Golf GTI and will mean that most GTIs will be 5 doors. TopGear said they are only about £150 more but with more kit, it would be silly to buy a 3 door GTI.

  8. I was booking my Passat into Western VW in Gorgi (Edinburgh) and they were taking delivery of a 58 plate white Scirocco.

The pictures in the papers and on the television really don't do it justice.

Absolutely stunning especially from the rear 3/4 and in white made all the curves jump out!

  9. If you have access to a TIG welder then it's easy enough with the right skills.

I would used a stainless filler rod and keep the heat down to a minimum. Mig is possible but to get the right amount of penitration and control is easier rather than controling the weld pool and getting a feel for the metal as you go along.

Hope thats not too technical, welding looks easy but is a bit of an art form and take practice to do right.

  10. I have this on my B6 Passat Sport. As mentioned it does seem to bounce off any chrome parts in the centre console area.

It's not been particularily dark enough for me to experience the full effect but I think it's a cool feature.

The surround on mine is a light biege for reference.

  11. HPI won't always show up if it's been in an accident or not.

I would try and see another Polo and see what the paintwork is like. All the VWs I've had have had a slight orange peel type of finish but not enough that I would worry about it. Check the panel gaps and whether the manufacturer's stickers are still in place.

If in any doubt walk away it's a buyer's market and there are loads of cars for sale.

  12. We had almost exactly the same issue when we got our new Sony laptop last month.

The thing that fixed it was to download new software through the Sony site. i know that won't fix your as it's a different make.

There was a temporary fix and it was that we needed to uninstall the drivers but not full thing. When the laptop was switched on again it wpould search for the drivers again and the wireless network would work.

But switching it off again I would have the same problems of not being able to find the wireless lan.

Might be worth contacting the manufacturer of the laptop for possible solutions.
