  1. i drive an Elegance 4x4 estate - it's coming up 3 years - i haven't seen an "Outdoor" in the flesh, but after being offered £13,500 today, to change to a Volvo XC70 D5 SE Lux (9 grand off list price for new one at Local dealer from Stock) i think the Elegance will be around for a few years yet!

  2. Don't understand - your talking battery drain when driving?

The Alternator is around 120 -140Amps (1440-1680 watts) depending on model) & (should be more than) big enough to run headlights + sidelights + brake-lights + heated screen + heated washers + Nav + seats and still have plenty spare to charge the battery...

The 2x 20 watt DRL's are nothing.... the battery alone should be able to sustain the DRL's for 40+ hours

Or have I missed the point completely?!

  3. I considered a XC70 before the 4x4 Superb Estate i bought.

Volvo, altho lovely, couldn't touch the Skoda on Price / Value for money. - I'm still in my 20's (just!) and got enough jip for buying a Skoda, let alone a Volvo!

Next time round, i will consider the volvo again - the D5 engine was great, but much less economical than the 170 VW unit and the boot's were of similar size. - Volvo door's always close nice!

  4. Had Nanang SV-2's (Winters) on my old's Kia Sportage and they were not the best for traction

Using Toyo C1S on my Superb for Summer now - Couldn't rate them, fuel consumption is UP on the same size winter tyre and traction is poor. - When i get them back on later in the year, we'll see how funds are, and they might end up on eBay and be replaced!

PS. My Winters are Vredestein's - i would consider the new Sportrac 5 or the Ultrac-Senssanta

  5. Wonder if she might feel more comfortable on something less prone and with a bigger physical presence?? I have a Suzuki Gladius and ( apologies to any blokes on here with one) think it is a great "Girls bike" - very easy to ride, fairly low seat height, not too heavy but powerful enough to be fun.

I also belong to a group of female bikers called " Curvey Riders" - they organise loads of ride outs for us girlies. Loads of female solidarity - maybe worth a look??

I would rather she gave in gracefully, that be unsafe and be more likely to be involved in a RTC... good thoughts tho!

  6. My wife passed her CBT in November, so we bought her a 2009 CBR125r - But she's fell out of love, and feels unsafe on it even with me shadowing her on my bike, so, after 2 months, it's gone. - I didn't want it hanging around making her feel bad.

But, we still need a "Small" bike to trailer with our motorhome (We used to have a Scooter for that purpose)

The 125 was replaced last week with a MINT 1997 CBR400RR FireBlade with MOT certificates back to 2001 and only 15,000 miles - Light enough to load onto the trailer single handedly too. - It's a bike I've always wanted to own since i was a Teenager and i LOVE it. - a Completely different experience to my 2009 VFR800 V-Tec but so much fun.

Now waiting for the weather to get better - Dad and i are insured on both bikes, and he's really looking forward to getting out riding with me. - Can't wait. - Will post some photo's of them together when we have a dry road, probably around May time...!

  7. iPhone 4s is what i have - iPhone's are easy to use. Full Stop. (The 4 will be more than quickenough for you!)

Screens are good, battery life is poor (if used with all features; mine's for business, I usually get a day out of it) LOADS of Docks and App's available, iTunes is easy to sync your music. They can not be expanded by memory cards.

Android Operating system, is on the Galaxy and Motorola. - It's easy, but not as easy as Apple's iOS and can (depending on build and the "skin" the manufacturer applies) look and feel clunky.

Nokia's run the Windows platform, and if im honest, have no experience with them at all!

  8. OK Al. I think its weird that Skoda thinks it OK to put a 61AH battery on any diesel.

    What i mean is, why do i have a 70AH and you have only a 61AH? (i have a 170 Diesel)

to be honest tho, it shouldn't make a difference, the 61AH battery should be fine; i think it's just of poor quality.

  9. Thanks Al. The standard battery on my car is about 245 long and 190 high, so to get a larger capacity battery it had to be longer. The one I've got is 77AH, 278 long and 190 high, a Bosch S5.

Now that's interesting... as my Superb (2010 4x4 170) came with a 70 AH battery.. I've just checked it, as i still have it.. hence the 74 AH Bosch S5 fitting without issue...!

    Weird!

  10. Not sounding out of place here, but WHY buy a bigger (physical size) battery?

How about returning it, and buying one of these

It's 74 AH Bosch, has a 5 year warranty, lives in the same place as the old one, and is the same physical size so can fit the same jacket.

I know, as it's what I put onto mine.

And with the BriSkoda discount, is around £75 from EuroCarParts.
