  1. i have just read there on another forum on a subject of alarms going off at night etc they where commenting on the bonnet switch.. what was happening was the catch was just about being pressed in when the bonnet was closed, the in the temp drop during the night or the morning sun was making the bonnet contract or swell in the heat/ cold and this was enuff to break the contact of the switch.... also another point... after the alarm has gone off and you reset it ... do the indicators flash? if so try and count the flashes, usually this can be an indication of how the alarm has been triggered example only: 2 flash= shock sensor activated 5= boot forced 7= bonnet forced etc
  2. yes try and re tap the thread if you can, when doing so use plenty of lub and dont go mad at it, just give it a half turn and then a turn in the opposite direction ( to remove any crap) the another turn more, and then on opposite direction.... you will mess it up if you just try and screw it on in... Is the thread bad or so-so, if its kinda ok, i would not worry to much, you have another 4 bolts that are sound , just nip up the defective bolt and and dont swing on it when tightening it
  3. go to an auto electrician and ask him to disable it, im sure it wont cos too much, or he might know a quick fix... in the meantime things for you to check: make sure all your doors, boot and bonnet are closing properly... the bonnent might have a switch that is supposed to be pressed in when the bonnet is closed , this switch could be broken., mis- aligned, or have a loose connection... does the car have ultrasonic sensors inside the cabin, these might be out of alignment, or dirty or obstructed.... are you leaving any current drawing devices powered on in the car when you leave it ? like phone charges, satnav etc, even interior light left on ? is your alarm activated when you turn the key to lock your door or by key fob and linked to the central locking? if its just by the keyfob then dont use it just use the key to lock the doors
  4. im not 100% about them either but they are growing on me ... im just glad to get rid of the 17"s .. ride is a lot smother and now at least I can deactive the pot hole radar... .. got the wheels offa ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140407323446 quite cheep I may add girl friend says they look like steelies a bit , and someone else thought they where g60 wheels.... I just think they are different and will do until I get bored with them
  5. ok here are the pics of the wheels fitted, apologizes for the quality were taken on my phone.....
  6. drivers handbook states oil must meet vw spec 503 spec, and im almost certain that magnetic is not compliant...
  7. magnatec is a 10-40w oil, i dont think thats the right type to be honest , think u should be using 5-40 fully synthetic
  8. thats what i mean bud lol... yea spigot rings... im sure thats the correct term ... me thinks
  9. my fab is a 2003 and is a 1.2 6v (49k), i recently did a oil, plugs and filter change and was shocked to see the state of the plugs, they where well burnt and dont think they had ever been changed... car had poor economy before service... was getting about 140miles per 20liters of fuel now im getting 170, which i think is quite a result.., starting to go of topic here but u can see where im coming from... do your plugs or at least check the and the gap, if they are ngk plugs i think the gap should be 1mm , also when getting the car serviced did they use the correct oil? cheep crappy oil can have detrimental effects on your emmisions .
  10. hi and welcome to Briskoda Apart from poor emissions are you experiencing and other probs with the car? how many miles on your clock and how often is it serviced? have you changed oil lately? plugs and filters?...
  11. what bore are your wheels Alan? ie the bit where your hub slides into your wheel, some times when u get mulitfits you might need to fit spigot rings to make the fit properly
  12. nice wheels bud as far as im aware, standard vag wheels use a bevel cup wheel bolt and the wheels are made to suit..... if u use an after market alloy wheel, you will need to buy new taper bolts as the vag bolts wont seat properly on your new wheels ... your existing security bolts may not fit either if it is the type that has the rotating ring on the outer of the head of the bolt then you may have probs fitting the "key" to the top of it to tighten/remove them...( and of course the taper will be wrong too :(
  13. well... my previous cars where mostly fiestas from mk1 to mk 5 in 1litre to 1.3 and then to a 98 ibiza 1.4..... I have to say im more than happy with the performance of my 6v ...... it all depends what you are used to, I have always drove low powered cars because insurance costs in Northern Ireland have always been stupid for some reason.....
  14. lol dont dis the 1.2 this engine was designed esp for the fabia , and was so good it was the used in the polo and ibiza....... apparently lol
  15. could u get your old ones recovered?
  16. if you go for a fabia, then at some point you will need to change the bushes at the front, on test drive listen for knocking from front when going over bumpy roads or speed ramps..... if you do hear a knock dont worry it aint the end of the world, just use it as a bargaining tool, allow at least £150 to get them changed, or if getting from dealer get them to do it for you....
  17. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Grey-Seat-Belt-Neck-Cushion-/130392198531?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e5bfb0d83 or this

  19. I changed my plugs recently on my 1.2.. I used NGK the gap was present but checked them with my feeler gauge any way... i think it was 1mm but im un sure what it is for the 1.4mpi version.. check the haynes manual... when i changed mine i used a tin of dust off ( compressed air) to get the crap away from the plugs b4 loosening them... Dont want nasty bits of rust n dead flies to fall in there...... on relocation i used a 30cm length of garden hose pipe .. slipped it onto the bit the sticks out and manovered it into position and was able to start screwing it a bit in too... and if u start of on the wrong thread the hose pipe will slip and not cause any damage to the thread... I checked the gap of my old plugs and they were at least 2mm ... not due to poor setting but being burnt away... have noticed a good difference in my fuel ecomony too after changing... along with oil change
  20. I was thinking that myself.... but them sometimes people dont have a clue what they are selling lol... Id say price is wrong thou....
  21. surely this is a better car..... gumtree london area : fabia 2006 £1000 ??? 1.9d ???
  22. According to this site( scroll down to the idea rim calulator) Click me your 205/45/16s are quite sate to fit up to an 8.5x 16 rim..... it also says the smallest rim is 7x 16 so the standard vRS one are cutting it a bit fine
  23. I will try and get some pics of the side view tomorrow, ill take pics with centre caps on and off.... I personally think it looks better with them off.....
  24. cheers Julie... Im sure the guys at the tyre depot wouldnt have fitted them if they wernt right lol... I found this wee site and it has calculators on it for matching tyres to rims ( safely) lol it says my tyres can safely be fitted to a rim for 5.5 to 7 x 15 so my mind is at ease lol Tyre / rim Calculators
