  1. Nothing was sheered, just the hydralic tensioner part was jammed. He said he freed it up on his lunch hour and re-fitted as he tried it loads of times and was ok. He said he does all the local taxi octavias and he has never changed the hydralic part, just the mechanical part that comes with the kit. But then he also says he never does the water pump too LOL In the end he just charged me £94 for repplacing the timing belt kit and doing the water pump and also changed the oil and filter (i supplied the oil and filter) So you cant complain with that service ?? although, i did ask him to do my bogbone bush thingy and he never fitted that :'( STOO
  2. Superb!! I'll get in touch soon! Stoo
  3. Nightmare! They thought it would have cost way more than that so they just mucked about with it to get it freed for half the day!! ARGGGGHHHH Just my luck!! STOO
  4. Had my VRS into the garage today to get my timing belt and water pump etc done. The garage had quoted 4 hours so £90 for the labour. I turn up today and they say they have been working on it for 8 hours due to the timing belt tensioner being siezed (the hydraulic part) Is this a common fault on the 1.8 T?? Just dont want to get ripped off STOO
  5. Not for the octy as thats perfect but I just bought my mums honda jazz off her for the wife to use and the paintwork is possibly the worst i have ever ever seen! I'm not needing a high end finish like if i had a bently or something. I just need it clayed and machine polished etc. So i'm looking for a budget place???? Also is there any good dent removal places in fife?? Thanks for any suggestions!! STOO
  6. Ok fitted the rear coilovers last night, Didnt have the correct glue to re glue the bump stops so i will need to get some proper glue to fix that. The car ended up only dropping 10mm so i'll need to jack it up and drop it another 20mm!! Will probably tackle the front tonight!! Also when driving around right after they were fitted, i found them a little creeky?? Is this normal? Or will that be the bushes on my new RARB?? STOO
  7. OK, so just to clear this up before i go at it again tonight. The big silver washer goes on the underside of the spring holder and bolts through the hole onto the black coilover spring holder?? (I have no idea what these bits are called) And the bump stop, Is this the orange bit that slips over the shock absorber? If so how much do i cut out and where about? Really really sorry for the stupid questions guys, but the car is booked in for timing belt on monday and need it all back together! haha STOO
  8. WOW ok, i never removed that lip!!! And never cut the bump stop. Looks like i'll be removing it all tonight then!! That lip on the spring platform looked like it was totally attached! must just be rust! I wish i got a mech to do it all now!! STOO
  9. Ok, Managed to fit the rear coilovers last night, Never got the wheels re-fitted yet so i have no idea how low its gonna be yet. Just a couple of questions i could do with getting answered............. Do i adjust the ride hight when the wheels etc are all back on? i.e can i just jack up the car and adjust with the C spanner then drop again?? Is there a specific way the bump stop fits in the top of the spring? and how low can i go without cutting the bump stop? (not planning on going lower than 40mm) Last question... The bolt and plate that goes under the spring, does anyone use anything to lock this in place?? It looks like it'll just fall out after driving a few hundred miles?? Thanks for the help in advance, i'm totally useless at mechanical things and i'm doing it using that golf guide from here STOO
  10. Unfortunatly i dont know anyone in the trade that could get me stuff from trade only places. Looks like i'll head to skoda dunfermline then, Had good service from the parts guys there already STOO
  11. hahahaha!!! :moon: So with mine being an 05 plate VRS mine will be metal? So all i ask for at skoda is a timing belt service kit for a 1.8 VRS and it will come with all the bolts and coolant etc? STOO
  12. Hi, After doing a search on the forum i now know i need to change the water pump with a metal impeller one at the time i do my cambelt change. I have booked into my local garage for a timing belt change £90 labour. But i need to know where the cheapest place to buy all the parts?? i.e all the bolts and coolant etc etc STOO

  15. Ok, fitting the ARB and weitechs this weekend. One quick question tho. ( i had a very quick search and cant find the answer) My car has just done 30k miles and is a 05 so I have booked it into a local garage to get the timing belt done. I Know all of your guys put the metal pump in at the same time but what else do i all need?? And who is the cheapest to buy the lot from?? Thanks in advance! Pics to follow! STOO
  16. Ok, So the weekend i got the car polished and my 22mm adjustable whiteline ARB and weitecs and plate surrounds arrived today..... Plates surrounds and private plates fitted (looks great) Gonna fit the ARB tomorrow as its a quick fitment. I'm not sure what to do about the weitecs?? I'm pretty good mechanicaly but i'm worried about fitting the coilovers, dont know why tho! I'm going to drop the fronts off to fit the strut brace anyway..... So just to confirm before i i go ahead with whatever route i choose. Do i need to buy the top mounts? even tho the car only has 33k on the clock?? I really cant wait to get all this gear fitted, the car really needs lowered and really needs all the other stuff i have sitting fitted hahaha STOO
  17. I'm giving it a few days and i'm putting a complaint in to paypal and getting my money back STOO
  18. Just been looking at the fitting guides for the S3 upper strut brace. D the front shocks have to be removed when drilling the strut tops? Also what is the best paint etc to use to protect the drilled metalwork? STOO
  19. Yeah I wasn't to bothered about long life oil as I only do 3k a year if I'm lucky stoo
