  2. Does anyone know if the Skoda Rapid 1.2 Tsi engines are the new variants? i.e. ones without a timing chains. The new Golf and Octavia have these later engines and I’m led to believe a new 1.2 Tsi is due out next year but I don't know if they've made it to the Rapids yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated J
  3. Thank you all very much for your replies Maverick - I tried what you suggested but sadly it doesn't work on the new Citigo's. Many thanks for the suggestion though. vgnils - I read your reply after returning from my fathers this morning so I'll have to wait until my next visit to see if Fuse No. 22 exists. Thank you for replying too. Owens - It's not a legal requirement have to fitted DRLs switched on the the U.K. . . . . . . yet! It's purely optional although in numerous countries this is law and this is why many manufactures are selling them as standard/activated. But I believe it may only be a matter of time before it may become compulsory. Personally I view them as an unnecessary, athough small, burden on the battery. I visited my local Skoda dealer this morning (not the one where the Citigo was purchased from) and was told that if I took the car into them or the dealership where it was purchased from they simply hook the car up to their computer where they can activate / de-activate any electrical system on the car e.g. Seat belt warning beeps, blown bulb alerts and yes, DRLs. So I'll continue with the handbook theory for the moment and try removing fuse 22 next time assuming it's present and post the outcome.
  4. Hi All, My Dad just picked up his fab new Citigo yesterday and I noticed it's DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) were activated. He has no need for these to be on so we reverted to the handbook which state they can easily be disabled by removing the associated fuse (Fuse No.4) in the fuse box. So we removed the fusebox cover and Fuse No.4 appears to be missing already - there's just a slot where it should be!! This is assuming we're reading the fuse layout correctly. We're starting at the top row looking at the fuses and counting four in from the left. Has anyone else encountered this or can anyone tell me which fuse we should be removing? Even the ampage rating would help i.e 5, 7.5? Any help would be greatly apprectiated, Many thanks, Grahame
  5. Just been on the Skoda website and noticed that the Zero VAT offer has been extended again - until the 2nd May 2011 this time. It's getting like a permanent SCS sale now! lol! I thought I'd just squeaked into the final deadline last Saturday when I ordered my new Fabia Estate (on a 12-week delivery by the way), but no - the deadline's been extended once more.
  6. @Estate Man It's already happening mate. For years the "second model" in of the Fabia range came with front fog lights as standard. In the case of the first generation Fabias the Comfort came with front fogs (the basic Classic didn't). Then the next generation Fabias came out in 2007 and the Fabia 2 models came armed with front fogs . . . the Fabia 1's didn't. Wind the clock forward to the present day. In the case of the new face-lifted model (introduced in 2007) you have to go up to the THIRD spec in the range to get those elusive front fogs as standard! (The S" and "SE" models don't have them"). Could this be the first of many VW cutbacks aimed at Skoda perhaps . . . . . . ? p.s. The new Skoda logo - hit or miss? Hit - I'm a definite fan
  7. The location may be more obvious than it seems perhaps? The Skoda logo is represented by a flying arrow i.e. it comes complete with with wings . . . . . . . . .like an Angel perhaps? More precisely the Angel Of The North. And the wonderful Gateshead Council has now provided parking facilities there. Just a thought
  8. I've got a 2008 Fabia 1 and you're right; they don't come with a glovebox cover or engine bonnet lining. I believe a glove box cover was a chargeable extra at the time, but I didn't opt for it. I thought it was a bit "penny pinching" of Skoda not to supply one as standard but it's never been a problem. The glove box is sloped so isn't easy for prying eyes to look far into from the outside of the car. I keep sunglasses, CDs etc in there and they've never attracted attention.
  9. I'd be well up for that. Great idea. Have Skoda - will travel )
  10. It took a lot to sway me from buying a new VW (again!) but I took the plunge two years ago and bought the new Fabia 60bhp and never regretted it - I love this car! I'd previously had Polos but this car leaves them in it's wake. The only extras I specified were metallic paint and air con - a very wise move in my opinion. As for performance it's never faltered to deliver under almost any condtions. It pulls away smartly enough and sits happily at the legal speed limit all day. I say it's great under almost all conditions with one possible exception. I play bass guitar in a band and my car has to take on the role of a van at times! The amplifier alone alone weighs 47kg and this sits snugly in the boot - something that couldn't be said of the Polos. But you really can tell the difference with all the gear in. Pulling away has to be planned in advance and gaining speed takes a little longer than normal. So unless you're regularly carrying a lot of weight around I'd have no hesitation in recommending a 60bhp model. Oh and when I finally part with this one I'll definitely be replacing it with another Skoda!
  11. Yep, I've got exactly the same problem myself. I ordered a set of genuine Skoda mats at the Skoda dealer, Part No. DCA 700 102 and they duly arrived. They are described as "Textile Footmats" within the packaging and as we have found out they wear through in no time. But here's what's interesting...... There's a photograph of the mats within the packaging and there's clearly two types! The textile ones are in the foreground, but in the background there's some heavy-duty looking rubber ones. I'm toying with the idea of going to a Skoda dealer and asking if I can specify the rubber version before I order!
  12. Hi, I joined this site yesterday after discovering it by chance whilst Googling a Skoda topic. What an awesome site it is too! Carlsberg don’t do Skoda forums but if they did ………. ) I’ve had around 23 cars in my life so far with five of the most recent ones being new VW Polos. I never thought I’d drive anything else but I was attracted to the new Skoda Fabia II the more I saw of them on the roads. My father owns a Fabia I and I quite like that so when I decided to renew my last Polo in 2008 I tried out the Fabia and was so taken with it that I ordered one on the spot. I went for a 1.2 6-valve hatchback in Satin Grey and bought it at a time when they were offering free air-conditioning on the base model, a most welcome freebie. I am incredibly impressed with my Fabia, despite a couple of minor teething issues such as a CD player that intermittently scratched CDs, front windscreen wiper attachments that rapidly developed rust and water in the spare wheel well. (The first two issues have been rectified under warranty and I’m just about to report the water problem to my Skoda dealer). This car does everything . . . and then some! I play bass in a covers band and it literally swallows all my gear effortlessly (not something I could say about VW Polos) and I quite honestly can’t picture myself driving anything else but a Skoda from now on, I’m a real convert! Well done on a cracking site, Grahame
