  1. Hello, All. Re "CONDENSATION" in our Karoqs... I wrote my report on WATER in my left headlight because it was absolutely NOT condensation (which we've all had in the lights of previous cars and which the old, hot, bulbs got rid of after a bit) but great drops of water which did not diminish at all, no matter how long we drove or bumped over holes. It never ran down the surface. The inside of the lamp looked like someone had polished or greased the lens and then sprayed it with water. The give-away was the 10 cm split and other small ones, starting from the outer top in the lens where Skoda confirmed the water entered. I mentioned that the other headlamp had the beginning of the same stress cracking. The Skoda guys approached the car to examine, it WITH THE LAMP-REPLACEMENT JOB ALREADY FILLED OUT on their pad, so clearly it's a bit of an epidemic. I attached a photo in my topic in which the water shows. It's thought that the water went in in storms, or car washes. Really like the DSG Karoq, especially once I disarmed Autohold and got into the routine of disarming the stop-start! Happy Karoq-ing!

Following the Yeti, we have had our Karoq "Style" 1.5 DSG ("Edition" equivalent in UK) here in France for a year and, apart from having to solve the jerky start-offs - by switching off Auto Hold permanently and opting for disabling Stop/Start at the start of every trip - we are still delighted with the car. Thanks to the good roads here, we even get pretty close to the expected fuel consumption. However, in the past few weeks, one of the "Full LED" headlamps became covered with water drops all over the inside of the outer protective plastic cover. It never disappeared. There was a lot of this water, so that the left hand headlamp blazed out a diffused but pretty useless light - especially when we drove at night in the UK. Looking for a cause, like a stone impact, I found cracks starting from the top outside of the headlamp and spreading into the centre of the part but there was no impact damage Clearly there was a stress failure. The other headlamp was clear ...but there, in the corresponding corner, were the start of small cracks. I set up a visit to the dealer. By the time I got to the dealer and to the person to whom my email had been directed, they must have had one or two other cars with the same issue because the tech manager had the papers already filled out and simply took a few photos before saying they would order lamps that day. The entire headlamp units, that is. The Lamp units took quite a few days to appear - from Czechoslovakia - but, two days ago, they replaced them, valetted the car and apologised for the inconvenience. All of which was a bit different from one or two people's experiences in these pages, telling of dealers saying that folk should expect the lamps to evaporate any "condensation" and, essentially, to go away and not bother them. So, it would appear that, although we haven't seen anything about this type of failure mentioned anywhere, the Skoda dealers, at least in France, are ready to act. Happy Karoqing, Scribble
  3. Hi. I just dropped some thoughts in another topic, which I think will help quite a few folk in this thread. We have a one year old Karoq "Style" (Edition in UK) with 1.5 Tsi DSG and I "trained" ours after a couple of weeks, so it is smoothly obedient and even nearer to perfect. Briefly, try this: Switch off Auto Hold and Disable Stop/Start. I tend to drive in E mostly, for the better gear-changes given the good torque from this engine and, having selected the Economy mode, it's easy to remember to tap the "Disable Stop/Start". The car will now not be fighting your wish to roll forward in a controlled start from traffic lights, eg.
  4. Me again. This is another, German, announcement in a magazine which dates the availability the same.   5. Greetings from France, where we live with our pet Yeti (1.2 Ambition) in Normandy and where I am reading the January issue of L'Automobile, page 63 to be persact. (You guys probably know all this already and I should access our forum more to keep up!) There I see, among the new cars due in 2016, a picture of a quite aggressive YETI, more characterful than the facelifted version but looking a bit BMW. The car is due in France in Autumn 2016 and the photo shows a number-plated, higher-standing, more business-like-for-offroad car, with the new "narrowed eyes" headlights. It will share bits and assembly line with the optional longer Tiguan (not yet) and a Seat SUV (March 2016). The bonnet of the Yeti, shown in blue looks a bit BMW X-something and the side windows now look less square and more like other SUVs. Although the view shown is not helpful, it is clear that the hitherto "box" back end has gone and that, having lenghtened the car (which, like me, you wanted) they have done a slightly leaning-in tailgate, which obviously loses a bit of space. On the car shown, there is even more space between the top of the tyre and the wheel arch than there is on our present monster. The back whels are pretty far back. Like the new long Tiguan, it is apparently an up to 7 seater. Hope this is of some use/interest. I do not want to photo the photo and submit it but I'm off to see if I can find it on the net.

  7. Thanks for the comment, nickguzzi. I Shone LEDs and the sun into the sensor area. No dice. Then, this morning, in half-light between, it has to be said, infrequent rain clouds, I started the car and the Auto lights stayed off! They came back on when I ran the wipers and seem to have behaved properly since then. I think VAG/Skoda have been reading the book according to Microsoft.... "Reboot or restart in another mode"! I'll see what happens. BTW, that wouldn't be an Octavia you want to replace with a LHD Yeti?
  8. Well well well. Thank you, ejstubbs and others, incl drum (not a fellow drummer are you?). Now... Comes a time when a certain amount of humility or something is in order, on my part - but only in part. So here's MY part. Don't laugh :- We have owned this car from new, in France, then here in Cromarty. Early on, like all of us, I got to know the car in detail, including the lights and the dash controls for mph-display parallel to the speedo in km, the turning fog lights (really useful sometimes) and all the rest - almost. So, deep in the country in Burgundy, we often ran on driving lights on poor days and if we were visiting the UK etc. The headlights were on "Auto" because we had a local tunnel and so that they came on if we were approaching the car after an evening thing. Of course the driving lights and headlights alternate. The other thing was, wherever we went, I parked up to drive out forwards if poss. Anyway, parking in France, with all the space, is virtually all free and is, as many of you will know, usually a matter of just driving along to a shop and taking one boot on the pavement if necessary. Arriving home, the car was driven straight at where it would sleep. Sort of turned out like a pony at the end of the day. One way or another, this car spent virtually all of it's life going forwards (natch) in daylight and almost zero time being reversed - at night. Yup. Never ONCE saw the fog lights come on when engaging reverse! What's more, I have both the UK and the French handbooks and will go look. Senior Management will larf her head orft. But, as for the other fault, we have driven around in bright sunlight and the lights on auto, waiting for them to go orft. Nowt. So, taking advice from one or two of you guys and I'll see if someone can fix them, having written to AC to ask what they want to do.   9. Lights - mess and fibs. Happy New Year, All! To make my year a little better, I would greatly appreciate some help with getting my Yeti lights sorted. STORY The car is a 1.2 Tsi and the spec is the French one, the Ambition, which fits between the SE and the SE Plus. I imported it to the UK when we returned from a few years in France. We’ve had the car since new and it’s been a brilliant vehicle – until Arnold Clark in Inverness got the job of changing the halogen headlights and the rear fog light to meet the spec for registering in the the UK. At first, I understood that they would be able to doctor the French lights to remove altogether the “kick-up” of the headlights to the right. So long as there is no dip to the right, the law says flat beam dip is OK. However, having messed with the car for hours, they could not do that (although they do it to RHD cars which are going on holiday to Europe) so I agreed new headlights. When they finished with the replacement job and rewiring the rear fog light, several codings appeared to have been messed up. Eg, The instrument lights were on full power all the time. Instead of simply recoding the dimmer switch as I suggested, they sent for a new one; this one wouldn’t work so they asked me to come back (for the 4th time, 50 miles round trip) so they could recode it having asked Skoda what to do. RESULT The instrument lights dip now. But now the when I select “Auto” on the headlights, they don’t turn off at all in bright light. And there’s an even more interesting thing…. When I engage reverse with the dipped lights on, the front driving/fog lights come on! What? To go backwards?? Unbelievably, Arnold Clark’s people say that’s what’s supposed to happen. Question : IS IT? Never used to. I have usually run with the driving lights on, which disappeared when the headlights were used. If the headlights were on Auto, they went off in light and the driving lights came on. End of. Given that this Skoda dealer appears to be unable to manage the coding of the car, I think I’ll now write and say I’ll get someone else to do the job properly and send them the bill. Any advice, friends? (Incidentally, purely to get a RHD one, my Yeti is for sale somewhere on here.)
  10. Hi! Earlier, I posted a reply about tyres and my change from Goodyears to Kumho Solus 17s in a topic about "Dunlops on a Yeti", I think. Apart from great experience with these tyres, I strongly recommend Yeti owners get a full laser set-up check done. My Yeti which we had from new, was so far wrongly set up that the tyres were maming a noise, pulling to one side etc. Apparently VAG cars are often out of true.
  11. Hello! Maybe I should start by saying I have no relationship with them but.... I Suggest that anyone changing tyres on their Yeti read up about Kumho Solus 17 tyres! They were first introduced as "lower priced" tyres in the UK but, having proved themselves in competition in the USA and elsewhere and the German reviewers having raved about them, they are becoming factory fit for VAG apparently. My Yeti 1.2 is the third car on which I've used Kumhos and the second with Solus 17s. The other was a high-powered machine with lower profile tryes and got more expensive Kumho Ecstas. The Kumho Solus 17 rides better, Summer and Winter and wears really well. I'm sure they also play a big part in the reckless speed I can go round an empty roundabout too! Our Yeti was fitted from new with Goodyear Excellence, which wore quite well but always felt like the walls were too stiff or something. They seemed to agitate more than the Solus. BIG ADVICE : Early on, my Goodyears were making a noise at the rear, so, after my French dealer had poo-poo'd any problem, I took the car to Supertyres in Ashford and had a complete laser set-up done. THE DIFFERENCE WAS PHENOMENAL. And at Supertyres they said that lots of VAG motors came on to the road with poor alignment. This is the second new car on which I have experienced this. I strongly recommend Yeti friends to reassure themselves by forking out the £80+ for a check and set.

I am on the other side of the same coin from some of you guys in that as we have returned from Burgundy to Scotland, with our French-registered LHD Yeti Ambition 1.2 TSi, I need to change to UK spec. I am about to embark on the process of getting it registered in the UK (Including fog light rewire and headlight-change unless DVLA confirms that it will accept that a Skoda dealer computer change to the dip beam to produce a flat beam is acceptable as "a standard feature of the vehicle, eg done via operation of a lever" as they say on their VCA application) .... ...UNLESS ....it occurred to me that you guys in bfg or otherwise might know someone who would like to SWAP CARS?? So, if anyone would like to save themselves and me the conversion hassle, I have about three weeks before I need to re-register. Shot in the dark but I thought it worth a try. I think I'm about to advertise her elsewhere on the forum too. Meantime, I think I'lll take a look at that fog light wiring on mine...

  14. Having bought a 1.2 SE- equivalent (The Ambition here in France) I would unreservedly say the 1.2 Yeti will work for you. Last week, we had four adults plus an ISOfix baby-seat for several journeys. The 1.2 is remarkable and still pulled really well. Unless you drive competitively off from the lights all the time, you can expect to beat the given mixed fuel consumption. We have no experience of Park Assist but, if we ordered a new one today, would specify that too, as one has to twist round a bit to see fully out the back, though, having said that, you can reverse it really easily using just the mirrors and the reversing sensors. The quality of the fittings etc is very good and my VW-owning family take delight in pointing to switch-gear and equipment and saying "That's the same as in my Golf, Audi etc" If I was ordering again, I would go for the Elegance spec, with the 1.2 engine, glass roof etc, though we prefer to use our TomTom for nav. Hope you opt for the Yeti. We drove a few cars, including the Qashqai and the C4 and C3 Picassos were in the mix. We know we did the right thing. Recently, I asked my wife "If we wanted them to improve some aspect of the Yeti, or we could add some spec, what would it be?" We couldn't come up with anything - and that's why, any time you see one of these rare machines, the driver will be bowling along with a really stupid smug grin! Go for it!
