  1. My local Skoda dealer had a black Fabia vRS demonstrator which had a switchable digital box fitted. I took this car for a test drive straight after a Leon 130 so performance should be similar as the kerb weight was very close.

Anyway the dealer "accidentally" left the switch in the on position and didn't mention that the car had been modified, and I couldn't understand why it went a lot better than the Leon.

I found out that it was modified by word of mouth about a week later and told them I was not very happy and requested another test drive with the box turned off. If a dealers car has been "chipped" customers should be made aware of this.

After this misuse of trust we bought a brand new Fabia vRS from another dealer.

  2. Have a look at this link:

    Honestjohn Carguides

Then select your car e.g. Skoda then Octavia, then read "What's bad."

"1.8 20v engines are snapping their timing belts at 70,000 - 80,000 miles and the extensive damage this causes is not repairable. The car will need a replacement engine."

    Honestjohn.co.uk. is an informative website.

If you want to scare yourself select a Peugeot/Citroen and read "What's bad"

  3. One of the guys at work wants to get rid of an Engine hoist, has no need for it anymore. It is hydraulic with a capacity of 2 tons, it folds up and comes with chains. It will need collecting from Lincoln, make an offer if you are interested?

  4. Earlier Fabia vRS have longer 4th, 5th and 6th than the current ones. I think the current ones are doing about 2000rpm at 60mph in 6th? The older ones do about 1500rpm at 60mph in 6th. If your Cupra has the longer ratios this will make a big difference if suddenly hitting the loud pedal.

Also I think the Cupra 160 has a bigger turbo so it will take longer to spool up.

  5. My Girlfriend has a 05 Fabia vRS that she has owned from new, she has also done 20k miles and is really impressed with the car.

I was as Jabbasport last week getting some work done on my own car (Seat Ibiza Cupra Turbo) and was discussing with them the possibility of getting the vRS remapped as my Ibiza was remapped by them 2 yrs ago.

I was basically told that the weak point on the Fabia is the clutch, and the remap has to limit the torque to give it a fighting chance. So realistically its worth budgeting for a perfomance clutch and a remap at the same time, so this has put me off for the time being as things start getting expensive.

So if you clutch dies early after a remap the dealers might not be interested.

  6. HMM WATCH THIS SPACE..... ive been in his - its quick, but it doesnt hit ur head back in to the seat as the furby does though!

I would be interested in the results....1.3 Rallye's are suprising quick and remind me of an AX GT I once used to own, good fun to drive.

  7. my mate has a pug 106 raylle - he recons he would pi%% all over the furby vrs... what u recon?

In acceleration my old 2001 model 106 GTi would beat the vRS say 0 to 60mph. On the road however the vRS would have the edge especially at overtaking. My little Peugeot was slightly modified as well with a full Pug sport group N exhaust with the dummy cat and a ecosse induction kit, but it needed the tits revving out of it all the time to get any where - handling was superb though.

As for the 1.3 rallye I think it would have one hell of a fight to beat a vRS on the road, maybe close 0 to 60 though.
