Slightly off topic Towelie, but interested in your thoughts comparing the new Octavia vRS (petrol?) to your Mk7.5 Golf GTI PP once you've owned it for a while. We have the same Golf and I'm thinking about replacing it with a bigger car sometime.

If you go into the driving modes, then choose individual and then click on change. In the next menu there will be the option of front differential lock, 2 settings - sport or normal. If you cannot see them, then the VAQ diff isn't fitted. Similar to this at 1:30 onwards:

What's the info/spec on the GTi? We ended up in a Golf GTi, it was a close thing though between the vRS 245 and a GTi PP 245. We didn't need the space and had already owned 4 Skoda's, so went for the GTi in the end.

Sorry EnterName, in my post on page3 I was referring the mk3 Octavia vRS TSI engines not the 190ps budack engine, apologies for the mix up.

The mk3 Octavia vRS TSI engines fitted with GPF's are also direct injection only, so if you intend to keep it for a long time then it may need the backs of the valves cleaning due to carbon build up. The ones without GPF's are direct and indirect injection, so shouldn't need this, or not as often. But the GPF cars do keep the exhaust tips cleaner 🧐

It depends how much boot space you need, the Golf has roughly 200 litres less than the Octavia. I think the GTI comes with Front assist and adaptive cruise control as standard. This can help on insurance groups. If you are considering something Golf size, don't forget the Leon Cupra, this comes with more power than the other 2, also they have DCC and the VAQ diff as standard

You can get an Octavia Scout with the 1.8 TSi petrol engine in it, but they are quite rare, not sure if this helps with your car hunting. We had one, they are 160ps as standard and map to approx 200ps, mpg wise ours did early 30's running around and 40 on a run. With a turbo swap and a few other bits, 250 ps + should be possible. Edit - also the Octavia 4x4 (non-Scout) could be specified with this engine.

You may be able to just remove a fuse to disable the sound generator. This video is worth watching:

You can get an EGR blanking plate of ebay for roughly £3, and then drill a hole in the middle of it to the required size. As mentioned above, it wants to be an Ø11mm hole.

I thought I better update this thread, as it's been a while. I've still got the Fiesta ST, it's now got a huge 15,000 miles on the clock, only had 1800 miles when I got it. Its been my daily since it was bought, you can see by my mileage why I didn't need a diesel. So far touch wood, it hasn't missed a beat and nothing has fallen off it. Averaged 35mpg since I've had it. It's good fun to drive and feels quicker than it really is. Modifications wise , I removed the ST badge from the back, as it is a red flag to a bull with this sort of car unfortunately. I've added a few upgrades from Mountune, Milltek and it's running a little more power. A remap makes a huge difference, as the standard car has the boost restricted in the first 2 gears, I guess to make the car considerably slower to 60 than the Focus ST? Who knows. It still looks standard, and it hasn't got a loud exhaust/air filter/decat/pop 'n bang map which is very rare for a Fiesta ! I'm too old for all that. Just a shame as mentioned above that a lot of fools buy them, which gives them the bad image. That and so many 1.0 Ecoboosts with no silencers modified to look like ST's. The car can be quite tiring though when you just want to drive at 5/10 pace. Our other car, a mk7.5 Golf is a lot better at this than the Fiesta. Not thinking of getting rid of it soon, but honestly not sure what I would replace it with.

It might seem a daft suggestion, but would an Golf GTI 245 Performance exhaust fit, if the tail pipes are extended? The Golf has a resonator and then 1 silencer, then the 2 tail pipes. We've got a Golf GTI 245 with the OPF (DKTB engine code) and it is fairly rorty, not quiet as described above.

If you are after a 'full size' wheel instead of the 18" skinny space saver, then the 17" wheel from a mk7 Golf GT will clear the 245 brakes. They are called the Dijon wheel.
