  2. Install OpenOffice (openoffice.org) - it'll read/save your Microsoft Office documents, and it's free!

    In a pinch, like for the 1% of stuff OpenOffice can't handle, Microsoft produce free 'viewer' versions of Word and Excel. Of course, they can't save stuff, only view it.

  3. 51octy > You're wrong .. :)

    I have seen FIS on MK1 diesel and vRS

    Humm, interesting. Were they the right colour, or where they modified VW units? I've never seen anything other than 'Maxidot' listed in the brochures either, which came as standard with the L&Ks and the automatics. Maybe it's a Euro option?

    I think we're talking a part number of: 1U0 920 946C (See Tachometer) - has anyone got ETKA?

    You can swap the foils' date=' I have vRS foils on my VW clocks.

    You bad man! :) Are you trying to bankrupt me? :rofl:

  4. Do you lot who do >50,000 a year do any carbon off setting? How many trees do you plant to help reduce your significant impact.

    I do 20k a year. Would be a lot more, but I lift share.

    I reduced my significant impact by buying an Octavia TDi and averaging 54 mpg :thumbup: The 140g/km CO2 rating is still pretty impressive and it's nearly six years old!

  5. I really don't understand how these long service intervals are such an attraction..? oil change is so cheap it just seems madness to leave all the crap (combustion byproducts, acids that are formed etc) floating round the engine for so long, especially on turbo cars that are presumably getting proper "exercise" :D:thumbup:

    I was seriously put off a couple that I looked at because the owners were making a "selling" point of the fact they'd only had a handful of services in 60K miles :confused: Drop the oil at 6-8K and it's black enough, lord knows what it looks like after 20K...

    Because the premium for using the long-life oil is around

  6. Somewhere in all my stuff I have the info of when stand cars are meant to be there - Might be quite early.. I'm only staying about 5 miles away, so will have a nice leisurely 10 minute drive to the place. :P :rofl:

    So, what 8 minutes warming it up around and two minutes actually going in the right direction? :thumbup:

    Anyone want a run down from Central Leicester on the Sunday?

    You realise this will be out of date by tomorrow, right? :rofl:

    My old Pug 205 D (non-T) had 100k on it when I bought it and about 140k on it when I gave it away. I'm led to believe it has since gone bang :(

    Edit: Replaced while I've had it:

    * Clutch master cylinder (got stuck and snapped off at the pedal)

    * Front Anti-Roll Bar

    * Front wishbone lower rear bushes

    * Dampers

  8. I'm trying to replace the off side rear shelf on my Octy Hatch, because it's broken and the parcel shelf keeps falling off it.

    I've undone all the bolts, and undone the seat belt bolts top and bottom, but I can't get the seat belt through the shelf.

    There's a square plastic cover the seat belt feeds through. It sits on the rear trim but appears to actually be attached to the inertia reel underneath. Haynes said "prise it off", so I did and now I've snapped it. :mad:

    Most of it is still stuck to the inertial reel and won't budge. The reel won't come free until this top piece is removed.

    I can probably stick the two pieces back together, but my question is: how on earth do you remove it? Is there a lug I've missed, or does it just slide off with immense force?

    Grrrr
