1. Has anyone heard for a fact the Scouts dropped permanently from the range or just suspended until Mark 3?

Funny - after the dump of snow I didn't think it would be long before pics appeared in the Yeti forum of one in the snow. Seems a common theme with them, along with the naming, to get giddy when one gets through some snow or mud. :giggle:

  2.
The 4x4 is raised compared to the normal Octavia. The scout is only 17mm higher than the 4x4. I'll be gutted if there are no more scouts/4x4. Suits me perfectly. The Yeti appears the wrong shape for our needs.

It is but I used to catch the bottom of my 4x4 where the Scout clears no problem - although avoidable & not a regular issue . (talking of clearance - washing the cars at the weekend I moved the washed Jeep so I could do the Scout - I drove over the bucket with the Jeep & but fortunately never even touched it!)

The Yeti may look like an Octy from the driver seat & share a load of other gubbins but as vehicle I'd find it a PIA for my needs. I'd be happy with the regular 4x4 & I really like the 4x4 Superb estate in the abence of the Scout but was hoping to maybe get a 2012 Scout in around 3 years time or maybe an early III version if i kept mine a bit longer.

  3. They'd have to bring out a bigger booted Yeti before I'd consider it as a replacement & it would need a major facelift bore the Mrs considered it. Being a 2nd hand buyer I may be able to replace my current one with another reasonable mileage Scout once more. If not I'd look at the regular Octy 4x4 or the Superb 4x4 although I'd occasionally miss the ground clearance - I banged the underside of my previous oct 4x4 a few times where the Scout clears no problem.

  4. So if lots of people have the same thoughts as you & go out to 'make sure their family is not inconvenienced' then the panic buy is created & the problem that wasn't going to happen has occurred because of people 'stocking up'. You become the problem not the solution.

I fully appreciate that POV. I'll not be filling extra trollies - just popping into Aldi on the way home & getting a couple of extra items over the next few days. Our spare freezer got unplugged in error recently & we had to use or bin the contents so it's due a top-up anyway regardless of the current situation. I'd normally have a small food buffer in the freezer anyway.

  5. Got some fuel yesterday though (needed some, not just topping up) and the Tesco's near us was fine no queing straight to a pump and all pumps working.

I met some of my team at the carpark near Tesco's at Clifton Moor, York yesterday morning - it was rammed, blocking entry in & out of the retail park at the south end.

  6. That reminds me, I must panic buy some stamps on the 29 April.

Good call! I use around 100 1st class a month plus international & the stamp that don't show the value are valid after the price increase. I can delay putting costs up to customers. Wise action, not panic.

  7. I was considering rebuilding the back gates in the summer. Better get some wood in now in case the supplies try up when the potential, one day a week strike materialises.......

Dude - You do what you've got to do. I'll not judge you.

We haven't had a strike yet but fuels running out because folk who likely don't need to are topping up. Food is delivered by lorries that need fuel.

I've used over half a tank in last 24hrs & I'm trying to minimise mileage until the madness subsides.

I've similar gate & fencing to do this summer but our local lumber supplier lives off the grid & can deliver by horse & cart if necessary :giggle: :giggle:

I'm confident it will all come to nothing, especially as Army drivers are being trained to deliver the fuel. Despite that I make no apology to anyone for the level of preparedness I make for my family & any name-calling is water off a ducks back. A stashed tankful of diesel & a few extra loaf's etc is no big deal in my book & just like carrying a shovel, warm clothing etc in the car in winter just makes sense to me. You hope you don't need them but they are there if you do - I call it being self-reliant & not being a hostage to outside influences & minimising reliance on others.

  8. Not trolling or playing devils advocate. Having a minority view on a thread doesn't make me a troll. I actually filled two 25L jerrycans with fuel so mine isn't a hyperthetical contrary view to most others on this thread - it's real.

I agree a lot of folk are filling up needlessly but the judgemental nature of the thread has prompted me to post an alternative view. Volvo man may well be a panicker but I can just see a situation where I'm in my scruffs filling up the night before I become Mr Suit on a long drive & some strangers clocking my fuel purchase & passing judgement on what I'm doing.

  9. I'd have to buy the fuel anyway & a few pennies isn't here nor there in relation to the inconvenience that could be mitigated.

Re the Volvo driver putting in £23 - it's a bizarre world when some keyboard judge & jury can pass judgement without knowing **** all about their circumstances. If I've got a long haul drive I fill up before I set off - maybe a third of a tank, whatever. Maybe the Volvo needed a full tank to get where it was going?

  10. If they do vote to strike the situation with queues & availability is only going to get worse nearer to the day of the strike. Today I didn't have to queue. I have nearly a tank in reserve now & will continue, best I can, to fill up normally & minimise usage. If the strike happens I may not even need the reserve but it's there if I need it - preparedness, not panic. My partner may use it - she's a nurse but I wouldn't like to think of her having the hassle from queue jumping even if she has the right.

I do a lot of miles so when this blows over the extra fuel will quick get used. I'm not out of pocket, even temporarily, as it's come out of my fuel budget for this month.

  11. .....but the whole "panic buying" is down to the media/government giving wrong advice and retards being stupid enough to listen to it.

No, some of us retards came to our own decision to get some extra fuel in regardless of what the government said. They don't always know best, bless them. If they spent more time on internet forums they would be so much wiser. :giggle:

  12. I knew about the threat of the strike but been busy over last couple days & missed the advice about filling jerry cans & the following retraction. I'd heard about the queues from family. We have motorways services on one of my main routes that decided a few months back to stop charging mega-high motorway prices for fuel & be more in line with regular filling station. I think folk haven't fully clicked on yet as they are still relatively quiet.

I made my own judgement to fill up the tank & a couple of 25 litre jerry cans. I passed 2 garages with queues but drove straight up to a pump on the motorway. Afterwards I switched on the radio & heard all the flap about conflicting advice & panic buying.

I don't feel like I'm panicking. I use about £70 of diesel a week & I've calmly bought an extra 50 litres should there be a strike or shortage so I can continue doing my job. In the meantime I will fill up as normal. I call it preparedness rather than panicking. Once the threat's gone the fuel will go into the tank & I'll have a cheap week. On a busy week I could use 2 tanks anyway.

During the last strike I was hundreds of miles away from home on holiday & it was a real hassle getting home. I'll also be adding a few more essentials to the freezer & kitchen cupboards over the coming week - not because I think we're doomed, just don't want my family inconvenienced. I'm happy to be called an idiot, moron in that case. We are so used to everything being on the shelf or on tap 24hr in this country folk give little consideration to how fragile the infrastructure actually is. Even my meagre efforts will only give me a few days of independence but likely to be enough. If it's not I'll probably wish I had panicked!

Oh - I don't read ANY newspapers, never mind the Daily Mail

  13. I got a call my wheels were ready today. I took them to the tyre fitter & the previous manager has left who fitted tyres to my last refurbs & they have a new policy (official or ad hoc, I don't know) - as the wheels have just been refurbed, any marks from the fitting of the tyres or (more likely) the balancing process will be at my risk. If I leave it 2 weeks they will accept responsibility for any damage.

So they will be given a few coats of Collinite while I wait.

I'm very please with the powder-coat finish - same as on my refurbed Audi wheels I use for my winters, but the Proteus wheels look better. I'll not miss the original polished finish!

    The Audi winter wheels.

  14. I went on recommendation here & elsewhere on line - they only do wheels & motorbike frames. They have my wheels for 2 days, same as last set. The price has gone up to £49 per corner without tyres (could be cos the last set were smaller at 16"). I could have paid more with a guy who moonlights from chipsaway. The Audi wheels I had done were around 10 year old & in a bit of a state cosmetically but look like new now.

They have only been on for 6 months & both sets will only be on the car around six months a year each so it'll be a 4 years before before I'll be able to give a 2 year recommendation. I may just still have the car then. Obviously if they turn to **** I'll post sooner! (would post smilie but can't see any formatting tools etc in FF/Linux)

I'll post the pics of the silver finish on the Proteus so you can compare with the polished.
