Optimum pipe size for front mountediintercooler
As title. When fitting a front mounted intercooler, what is the optimum pipe size. I’m hoping to achieve in between 250 and 300 BHP from a hybrid turbo. There are FMIC on the market with outlets ranging from 50 mm up to approximately 60 mm. Apparently larger sizes aren’t necessarily better as they slow down the speed of the charge. Look forward to receiving words of wisdom on this matter.

K03S Hybrid or K04 upgrade?
Given the amount of Tuning out there for these 20 valve engines, I’m surprised that no one has any advice? Maybe those that modify have moved on to younger models? There is loads of information and groups on Facebook but I absolutely detest the format and find it impossible to navigate. I comparison this forum is brilliant.

K03S Hybrid or K04 upgrade?
I’m sure this has been done to death and there is a lot of information out there. I have tried to pull info from the various groups on Facebook but as a non-Facebook user. I find the whole system terrible! I have a very nice condition 05, vRS. This is my fifth MK1. My plan is to make this a usable road car and have enough performance for Track Days. I do have a K04 turbo with the twin downpipe and a matching manifold and was going to fit this. Considering the problems with marrying up and exhaust system and other alterations that are required, my thoughts have moved to fitting the K03S hybrid turbo. I would couple this with a sports cat and 3 inch.Miltech or similar exhaust system. I have a set of BAM injectors and the larger silicon inlet pipe ready to go. I am looking at power gains in the high 200s if possible, a minimum of 250 BHP and so I’m looking for answers regarding choices, pros and cons. Thanks in advance.

Desperately seeking stock exhaust system for VRS
I’m looking for a Miltek system and have an excellent standard system to exchange.

Billet Driveshafts
Interesting. I drove my 245bhp, 310 torque Octy on 30 track days flat out, no problems. I did have an lsd fitted. My sensible side wants to say, why drive so hard on the road? Will be doing the 300bhp upgrade later this year on my other MK1 but I will be driving it respectfully, even when driving fast. I don’t expect to break anything… Anyway….

Complete lack of vRS’s in the homeland….
We are touring eastern Europe at the moment in our Motorhome. We have spent the last three or four days in the Czech Republic and so have kept an eagle eye out for fellow vRS’s. There are absolutely loads of Skoda‘s in the Czech Republic as you would imagine, from old to new. Even though there are so many and like here not that many MK1’s around, I did not see one vRS’s! We crossed into Poland on our way to the Auschwitz museum and about 30 miles in I saw a pretty tatty example parked up. That was a first! Really surprising. I was hoping to see some nice tidy examples but sadly not. The majority by the looks of it were the ubiquitous diesel.

Got my vRS back, now to upgrade.
That is a good idea. I will do that when I make a start. Car is under a cover at the moment as we are about to go on holiday but on my return, I will start a thread. Already collected upgraded injectors, K04 turbo plus downpipe From an Audi S3. Also front subframe complete with Alloy suspension arms and a quick rack, some turbo silicon pipework and a few other bits and pieces.

Got my vRS back, now to upgrade.
I used black hoses on my black car to keep things looking nice and plain. That blue hose was changed to black since that photograph.

Got my vRS back, now to upgrade.
I sold my immaculate silver vRS about 6-7 years ago, I often regretted it but times and needs changed. I very recently had the opportunity to buy it back, I did. It is still in pretty excellent condition so I feel the need to subtly upgrade. Plan is to fit a Miltek or similar exhaust with a sports cat, sensible hybrid turbo and the obligatory larger intercooler. When mapped, I would like to see 300 bhp. My last vRS with similar spec and a maxed out turbo produced 245 bhp and 310 ft lb of torque which felt pretty quick. I’m not interested in loads of brightly coloured turbo hoses and loud dump valves, I want to keep it looking as standard as possible. If anyone has any kit lying around that they’re not going to use then please give me a shout and I will keep this thread updated once I collect together a kit of parts and get cracking. Cheers. 9

Wow, this forum is ultra quiet!
I have been tracking my vRS MK1 for about 3 1/2 years now. I’ve done about 30 Track Days. Just discovered this forum. Does anyone else track their car? Seems awfully quiet!

Six speed, gearbox conversion, is it worth it?
Thank you for that response. I also occasionally track my 987.1 Boxster S which by gearbox comparison is just so much better. Even though the Octavia feel is perfectly good enough on the road, at speed, it is quite vague. The Boxster by comparison, even considering the long cable run from the gear change over the engine down to the rear transaxle is very sniickety. I think I will probably leave it alone at the moment. Just a thought, what is the gearbox like in the Audi TT. Is the front wheel drive only car a six speed box?

Six speed, gearbox conversion, is it worth it?
Wow! £2000 in parts sounds outrageous! When I head, the LSD fitted into my existing five speed box, including a full check and replacing any worn parts didn’t cost be much more than £400. Obviously that wasn’t any gear sets. I assume, if you fit the six speed, gearbox from a petrol car, the ratios from what you say would be similar but with just a sixth speed to lower the rpm at speed. Is that correct? it would be good to compare the gear ratios side-by-side on the five speed and six speed box if anyone has the information.

Six speed, gearbox conversion, is it worth it?
I track my MK1 which is a very capable car. It is running to 45 bhp and 310ft lb of torque. Although I am very happy with the car, the five speed box leaves a bit to be desired. From the point of view of gear changes, as good as it is on the road, quick gear changes, especially 2nd to 3rd are a bit woolly and less precise than I would like. I understand that this is a road car but looking to improve matters. I have got the short shift or should I say shorter shift gizmo on the gearbox that I fitted a few years ago which improved matters. As for the five speeds, again, brilliant on the road, and considering the engine produces more torque , isn’t too bad on the track. What I am looking for is information as to upgrading to a six speed gearbox from another model and if it’s worth it. I don’t need an extra, “overdrive” gear. What I need is similar gearing but with six speeds closer together. Is that possible? I have this feeling that the diesel six speed box has longer gearing which would be a downside. Has anyone information on gear ratios, gearing or firsthand experience?. Appreciate any pointers on this.

Overheating on a track day.
that part in the middle at the top is the part that failed. That looks a great idea, where is that available from. Just going to pick up the oil cooler kit delayed due to 1st world problems! Lost house Internet for four days due to the National Trust cutting the overhead cable across woodland and also lost phone Internet access for a few days coincidentally at the same time due to a technical glitch with my provider! I don’t know how we survive in the western world …

Overheating on a track day.
As StevesTruck stated, keep it simple. My Eagle eyed son spotted some staining around the plastic housing on the right hand side of the cylinder head. This is the plastic housing where three hoses terminate with also a sensor located there. I have removed it and it seems that at high revs and prolonged use was letting go at the O ring. i’ve ordered a new better quality part as this was a pattern part fitted about 18 months ago. Note to myself, always use genuine or top quality parts on track cars! Thank you for your input guys. I will still fit the oil cooler as this will definitely benefit my set up.

I am picking up in oil cooler kit later today and my mechanic son is calling round a bit later to give me his tuppence worth. We will see.

Overheating on a track day.
Went for a spirited drive down the country lanes with lots of higher revs, (not a patch on track work though) and temperature gauge stayed at normal. Checked expansion bottle on return and water level was spot-on. I have heard of water pumps where the impellers breakdown and seem to work normally until pushed hard and obviously they aren’t shifting as much water as they should. I did replace the pump with cam belt three years ago and not a lot of miles ago so I am thinking that the likelihood of this is very low. Any thoughts on this?
