  1. It kind of worries me when you guys say the 180 bhp in a Mark 2 is a whole world better than the Mark 1. I have a Mark 1 which has been mapped to 182 bhp and feel it is quicker in many respects to my old very fast Peugeot 306 Rallye (bought many years ago with just 27k on the clock) which in turn had 167 bhp on tap with its six speed box but which was quite light and felt bloody quick. I would say go for a decent remap and you should feel a big difference. I would say it’s a more difficult call than some claim.

  2. Hi guys,

I recently bought a Fabia vRS. Loving everything about it apart from the seats  I simply cannot find a comfortable position to sit in. I drove for just over one hour to my parents this evening and had chronic backache by the time I arrived. For a start there is no adjustable lumbar support. However, even without this I feel it provides absolutely no support the base of my back. It also feels like there is a swollen lump in the seat profile halfway up my back which is not present on the passenger seat. Could the driver seat be broken in some way as to make it ridiculously uncomfortable?

I'm planning to remove my seat covers sometime in the near future so may be able to perform some adjustments to the foam padding.

Any help or advice would be appreciated,

    Thanks

What!! Are you seriously overweight or something? (only kidding) We both drive ours and think the seats are fine. Pity they are not leather though.

  3. Well I had this issue with the Peugeot 306. Lovely Astor Gray GTi6. Yes that marque is now a chavs car but in no way was mine chavvy. I felt I was driving a genuine hot hatch. As for the Fabia.. I hope its not chavvy. I love the remap and it really feels fast on the road and I have timed it on various sections of road here in the border country and it seems as good as the 306s ever were - even my dear Rallye - which won a Autocar shoot out. On the looks front it will never be a classic like those were but hey we have to move on don't we?

  4. yeah i think i am getting used to it, for example i worked out the other day that if i keep hold of the boot release it will actually open the boot.

Also right the boot release is a doozy too but after a remap the thing really shifts especially overtaking in 4th just before 2,000 revs about about 45 - 50 mph. Brilliantly useful with trucks etc.

  5. My main issue with the car so far is that the front passenger door handle/lock seems to stick and i need to press the unlock button 3 times to unlock that door (the rest seem to all be open after the second press) does any one else have this issue??

Only difference from me is we had a 205TD from new back in the 1990s so that was nice then. The locks take a bit of getting used to. First mine locks automatically after starting off. Also need to press the fob button harder or twice to unlock and finally there is a unlock button on the drivers side for front passenger which can be used. Bit strange the locking on these.

  6. I bought a Dec 06 one last Autumn and really love it. Totally different from the fast petrol cars I had before. The cars of later years (ask the experts on here) came out of the factory with a 150 bhp set up so can easily be tuned to about 180 bhp. Mine also has cruise control though Xenons would be nice and apparently if fitted they allow for a bigger 5L screen washer bottle which would be a boon as the 2L standard one is too small and one of the few minor hassles with these cars.

  7. I've never noticed a 'significant' increase in MPG when using a cleaner. (I add 1/2 bottle of Redex One Shot Diesel Treatment every month)

But it would be good to know how often a fuel cleaner should be used & are they are good?

Well for me it was almost ridiculous. Put some injector cleaner in and up in a big way went the miles left in the tank.

  8. Too early for me to say since I only bought mine last autumn but probably. It has been great fun and TOTALLY different from the Peugeot 306 Rallye (one of the best cheap drivers cars ever IMO) and three GTis of that brand we got through over seven years. Minor issues with this Black Magic one (first black car ever!) at start like replacing a hydralic unit thing that keeps the tailgate up (both in fact)and a senosr that went AWOL. No other problems yet.

  9. It was my first introduction into VAG based Skoda's and I thought it was a great car, and later this year I may be on the lookout for a standard unmolested one to replace the wife's Polo. I am thinking that might be a difficult task though, to find one in standard condition without a backstreet remap (no offence guys and girls).

A top small hatch for sure and a great mix of performance and fuel economy.

I have had a very nice quite expensive remap no nasty backstreet j B) obbie.

  10. If you'd asked me this in the Summer I'd have voted "yes" - the 2004vRS I had from new was the best car I'd ever owned and the car I'd kept the longest (in terms of daily driver).

However I've just voted "no" since the SE replacement is the second worst car I've ever owned and I'm not going to buy another Fabia - though might just be tempted by a Yeti...

    That i :'( s sad.

  11. Now the evenings and getting lighter and sometimes the weekdays are getting a few degrees above zero then it would be good to have another 3 choirs ie Glos/Here/Worcs meet, even had Bristolians pop up. We have also had people come from the Wye Valley and we do not even mind Forresters coming if they can spare time from their tree demo.

We met at Tewksebury before as easy place for the Tri-Country people to reach in about half an hour considering fuel prices of travelling anywhere unless someone else is paying for the fuel. Let us know your pref for Sat, Sunday or evening but I would suggest SAT/Sun PM until the days get warmer.

Like Tewkesbury. Just give me the heads up. Sat or Sun both are fine.

  12. I would like to hear about the experiences of others with 182 bhp or thereabouts on a track like Croft, Cadwell, Castle Combe or whatever. I always drive a little too fast. I was a bit manic as a kid and a 11 sec sprinter 100 metres. Obsessed about A to B. The only place to find out if these cars are any good would be to take it to a track. My old Rallye was brilliant and bought by a semi collector and this vehicle won a shoot out. Would like to think these cars are not bad. Seem bloody good in 4th gear at 45mph pushing on.

  13. I have Michelin Pilot Exaltos. Pumped up to 34 psi and very good they are too. Really help grip and push the car hard. Have been used to Peugeot 306s gtis + a Rallye. Mind you the car came with these tyres and they are supposed to last longer than the Toyos I used to buy for the French motors.

  14. When I had my cam belt changed I replaced the plastic water pump with a metal one. Otherwise just the remap to 182 bhp (no idea what effect it will have on the clutch long term) and new vrs mats for the front. I might go for the PD160 intake - if that has any effect on reducing smoke when overtaking at higher power. The roll bar improvements seem a good idea coming from the world of gti/rallye Pug 306s. Would be interesting to know what genuine performance enhancements there are available rather than just cosmetic. With the Pug it was kind of random like Xsara washer jets :nerd: which definitely did a better job than the ones that came as standard.

  15. I was told by some diesel experts that the later cars (Fabia VRS') came out of the factory already tuned to about 150bhp so hence its quite possible to get the 182 bhp I have. I would probably think the PD160 is a must for cars that have near that factory fresh power. The only reason I would have a PD160 would be to cut down on smoke emissions but have not got a clue if the PD160 would achieve that aim. Happy Xmax by the way one of our presents to both of us it some brand new VRS floor mats.
