  1. Any updates on this? What does konge mean by cutting the bonnet opener?
  2. Your a star. I work up in Bellshill so I might give you a shout once I get the car and if you are available maybe meet up for a wee look?
  3. Sorry Craig, new to all this Skoda malarky and you've confused me! "The lead that splits off that loom" - which lead? If I buy that kit from my ebay link does the chunky coiled loom go into the back of the Bolero at one end and into the MDI unit at the other, then the MDI lead goes from the MDI unit into the iPod? What I am trying to get at is your original post said your parts list didn't include the wire from the MDi blackbox to the head unit wiring loom, but is the picture of the coiled black-and-white-striped loom with the two laqrge square connectors at the ends the wire that goes from the MDI blackbox to the head unit wiring loom? i.e. If I purchase the kit from eBay will it give me EVERYTHING to get MDI working - or will my local car stereo installer phone me up after i've dropped the car off and say "there is a bit missing". Again, sorry if I being a bit thick but your comment about the lead that splits off that loom has got me confused again!
  4. Thanks for that boilerman, can I still see my phonebook contacts on the Bolero display and touch-screen to phone the contact though? It would be a great help to me if you (or anyone really!) could tell me exactly how I make calls through the Bolero.
  5. Well in answer to my own question (incase anyone ever searches for it in the future) - my wife went to the dealers today on the way home from work with my phone, and it works fine.
  6. Thanks for the reply Craig You said in your original post at the start of the thread "This parts list doesn't cover the wire from MDI blackbox to the headunit wiring loom. Unfortunately Skoda don't have a part number which covers this lead. You have 2 options, make your own from component parts (you order up the individual wires and they click together into the plug / housings easily) or you buy the Kufatec MDI in lead." Does the kit from ebay that I linked to above include this lead (perhaps the chunky-looking assembly with the big square plugs at either end) and if so do you think it would be long enough to reach into the armrest?
  7. According to a Noka website the 7230 has SAP, doesn't say RSAP though. The car does have the wee sharks fin at the back of the aerial on the roof (I wondered what that was for!) What phone do you have paired with your VRS powermalc?
  8. Folks, Just signed up this afternoon for a 2010 Octavia vRS and now a thread over on PH has got me worried. The car was 1st registered in June 2010 and it has bluetooth in it. Will my Nokia 7230 slide work with the bluetooth module fitted in this car? When I had a test drive the dealer fidgeted about with some buttons on the steering wheel and the put it into device search mode - my phone came up on the maxidot display but the salesman didn't go any further than that. The worrying thing is that the salesman told me the previous owner specced the car with bluetooth but ordered a brand-new one almost straight away as (I am told) he couldn't pair his particular phone with the stereo. All advice greatly appreciated before I call the dealership in the morning and put the sale on hold! Cheers
  9. Indeed, I am signing up for one this afternoon! Get pics of yours up BadBoy when you get a minute!
  10. Hi Craig, Can you have a look at the link below and tell me if it includes everything I would need: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370457238227&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Thanks! oobster
  11. Well I had a test drive of the Fabia today (a green hatchback vRS) and I was reasonably impressed, although the seats were rather solid which made it feel, in my opinion, as if I was sitting ON the car rather than IN it. There wasn't a HUGE difference in performance between it and the Octavia vRS I drove on Sunday, but the engine noise inside the Fabia cabin was noticeably worse. So - it looks like I MIGHT be the proud owner of a white petrol Octavia vRS DSG in the next couple of weeks! If and when the keys are handed over, let the mods commence! Tints, lowered, alloys powder-coated in Anthracite, grill colour-coded, debadged on the rear and MDI retro-fitted.
  12. Yea, I got a quote from DTD but that still leaves me with the problem of what to do with my current vehicle and that I'll probably need to wait at least 3 months for the new Octavia to arrive (and my current vehicle will be worth less by then). Thanks for all the advice though chaps, I think i am going to organise a test drive of the Fabia and then go from there.
  13. Fellow Skodians Today I had a test drive of a hatchback Octavia vRS - 10 plate, white, petrol, DSG. Think it was 1st registered in May 2010 so it is around 8 months old. It was specced with the full leather when new, along with bluetooth but no MDI (which is an absolute MUST for me, although I know it can be retro-fitted) and no parking sensors which the dealer said they will retro-fit for £250. With my current car as a trade-in the price-to-change comes in at around £10,750. Dealer said they have someone else interested in the car, and the nearest one with a similar spec is in Middlesborough, around a 4 hour drive (each way). Didn't leave a deposit after the test driive, said i would think about it overnight. However, a spanner was thrown in the works. While at the dealer I spotted a brand-new (altthough pre-registered) 60-plate FABIA vrs - estate, red, already got the MDI fitted, it's a DSG so has maxidot, already has the rear parking sensors but doesn't have bluetooth, and dealer said it can't be retro-fitted. Smart wee car, although I haven't driven it yet. The price to change with my car as a trade-in is around £6.5K, so significantly less than the Octavia. The other consideration is the road tax - it's due on the Fabia at the end of Feb and is £125 for a year, but the tax on the Octavia runs out at the end of May but is £300. So worthy of consideration. So: OCTAVIA - will cost me £10,750 to change, isn't brand new but does come with leather, road tax has 4 months to run but costs more to renew, has retro-fitted parking sensors that don't integrate with the Bolero and i'll need to retro-fit (or have it fitted for me) the MDI. Has bluetooth though. FABIA - will cost me £6500 to change, IS brand new but doesn't have leather or bluetooth, has around 6 weeks road tax left but is only £125 to renew, has factory parking sensors and factory MDI. Haven't ever driven a Fabia though. Help!!!
  14. That is a cracking estate Stu, I think I commented on one of your flickr pics a while back. Definitely looks better with the darker wheels.
  15. Oh, and while I am here, does £17,995 sound about right for a May 2010 TFSi vRS Hatchback (DSG) in white with bluetooth and full leather? Drivethedeal is showing a brand new one for a shade over £18.5k so £18K for an 8-month old one SEEMS slightly expensive to me. Thoughts?
  16. Is that a retro-fit kit though Mark, or does the factory-fit PDC show on the Bolero?
  17. Yea, after I made the posts on this thread I googles skoda mdi and the 2nd or 3rd result was your thread - certainly gives me an idea of whats involved but not something I would tackle on my own. Good thread though, which I have bookmarked for future reference. I am going to email the dealer asking for a price for supplying and installing the MDI and if it's too expensive I might buy the kit off of eBay and get someone local to fit it for me, perhaps the car audio installers down in Bathgate. Would I be correct in assuming that 2nd-hand Octavias are fairly rare with MDI already fitted?
  18. Audible notification is fine, as thats what I have in my current car (Focus). The beeps become closer together when you get closer to an object - I assume the Skoda would be the same? Mmm, MDI is defenitely worth discussing with the dealer then, REALLY need to be able to control the ipod without touching it. Many thanks for you advice Steve! Hello as well Graham, aye it's been a while, might get you out to 'detail' the new car (if I get it).
  19. Many thanks for the advice so far guys, but what is MDI and what is involved in fitting it?
  20. Folks, Never owned a Skoda before so any advice appreciated... Been to see a 10-plate T FSI DSG vRS this afternoon, and it has the bolero head unit fitted. It also has an AUX socket in the armrest. However, I need to know if it's possible to attach my iPod up to the Bolero in a manner that will allow me to select playlists, forward through tracks etc along with charging the ipod while the iPod is safely tucked away somewhere. The salesman was a bit vague, mentioning something about a £100 cable that goes into the back of the head unit. It also appears to have maxidot fitted (there is the large white plan-view of the car in the middle of the instrument panel above the steering wheel which I assume is what maxidot is) but the car doesn't have parking sensors. Dealer said they can retro-fit the rear sensors for £250 (inc. colour-coding the sensors) but that the retro-fitted sensors don't integrate with the maxidot display. Can someone explain this to me more fully, in terms of what warning will the car give me instead (I assume just an audible signal that increases in frequency as I get nearer an object) and will it REALLY make any difference not integrating with maxidot display? Lastly, car has no mudflaps fitted - what do people recommend for mudflaps for a vRS (I seem to recall reading somewhere that the proper Skoda mudflaps don't fit a vRS?) Many thanks for anny advice given Andy
  21. See you've won something special Rob, might the vRS be up for sale in the spring?
  22. I don't know if it will be the same with Skoda but when I had by 'blobeye' WRX Impreza I de-tango'd the headlights which was basically separating the lens from the back and removing the small orange triangular bit. In order to separate you have to soften the sealer - quite a lot of guys on the Subaru forum put their headlights in the oven for 10-15 minutes but I used a combination of a hair dryer and some boiling water. Came apart quite easily, then used the hair dryer again to soften the sealant when putting them back together. Might be worth a shot.
