  1. Does anybody know which oil is needed on a Mk1 VRS gearbox? I have looked in a few places and have got different information - some confirmation would be a bit help! Thanks very much
  2. Bit of a thread bump here... Above it says both that the Skoda badges are and are not mechanically fasted as well as glued. Can anybody tell me what I need to do to remove the Skoda badges in order that I fit some new ones please? Thanks! Ben
  3. Got everything sorted in the end, the Aux. In wires are a bit hit and miss though, I ordered one up but had to 'adjust' the plug to make it fit. Works fine now it's in with the iPod / Phone now, so cant really complain. I am picking up the GPS antenna tomorrow, it's a SMB-F from memory, nice and cheap and available.
  4. I have the code sorted, and once unlocked it even turned out to have to CD in it! It really doesn't play audio discs though, most odd! Anybody happen to have links to the correct push-fit GPS antennas? I have this connection on the back of the unit for the antenna:
  5. OK... so I'll have to scare up a compatible changer if it wont play audio discs - at least there's plenty of room to install one! Thanks for all your help
  6. I have spotted this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Plug-Play-SET-VW-MFD-AUDI-SAT-NAV-CABLE-ADAPTER-ANTENNA-/110621397083?pt=UK_CE_GPS_Accessories_Software_ET&hash=item19c18c905b Will that increase functionality? Assuming I have no GPS antenna etc with the one I get - I am assuming the worse as my system is coming from ebay that I wont be getting any bits with it I have done a little more research... is it true if I want to play audio CDs with this unit I'll need a CD changer? Seems a very strange way of doing things...
  7. Right... I have found myself an MFD... Anybody know what's involved in getting the code, should it arrive without one? Do they have Mp3 support? Thanks for all the help so far!
  8. Thank you for the thoughtful reply I have a single din unit in there at the moment with the cubbyhole thing underneath, and it just doesn't look tidy. I believe a double din will just look better, sort of fit in with the dash better. I have now solved my wiring except for the permenant live, which I will re-connect when I change the head unit over, I have a JVC in there I had knocking about, and it's pretty horrid.
  9. :( So it's something aftermarket, which certainly a single DIN looks pretty rubbish, or find an OEM unit. Oh well... next job is to sort the wiring, and get the parrot working with whichever head unit I go for, currently it's hard wired to an Alpine / Pioneer plug.
  10. Hello clever and friendly people I am now an owner of a Fabia VRS. It came with no head unit, and I have found myself wondering which of the available VAG head units would fit into, and work in my car? I'd happily lose the cubby hole and go double din, as it just looks untidy at present with a cheapo unit I had in the garage thrown into the hole. Thanks for any ideas and advice! Ben
  11. www.brakeparts.co.uk are pretty good for standard replacements. Yokohama, Michellin and Bridgestone would all be worth a look, all make very good tyres!
  12. Those ultralites down come in 5x100 in the concave sizes looking at that site
  13. Alignment is a wear and tear type thing, a few potholes and the likes and it'll get knocked out. It's not something that would likely be covered at all under warranty :( You should be able to get 4 wheel laser alignment done for £20-£30 on a standard car somewhere like ATS, it's not like you have loads of aftermarket kit that will take them hours to figure out. It would be worth doing this asap to avoid any further wear. Toe is the main killer of tyres, along with incorrect inflation. Also it's generally worth shopping around for tyres, allnewtyres, camskill and black circles all offer a good basis for comparison
  14. Motorbike 'rim' tape is your friend for the pinstripe on the lip, it'll give you the colour and is 100% reversable and you can swap it for other colour when you get bored. Full on 2 tone is a personal taste thing, but will be a brave move. I think the silver face and darker lip / backing makes a wheel look cheap :( I'd go with 1 colour
  15. There are a few options available to serve this purpose, the other popular ones are Rimfynn - which aren't as attractive but a possibly more effective. They will all work to a degree, but you'll still have damaged tyres if you drive into lots of things, so keep an eye on the side walls for bulges if you suffer very bad condition wheels. The best way to protect the wheel aside from going round kerbs, is to fit tyres that are larger for their size. A 195/45/16 made by yokohama is not actually going to be the same width at a 195/45/16 made by bridgestone, there are tolerances. When you buy your tyres, get the place selling you them to find out this information, and if they're listed as having rim protection I am yet to see a rim protector that doesn't show up or detract from the looks - which means you're driving round advertising that you're not that hot behind the wheel, which never fills fellow motorists with joy
  16. That Golf is hardly in the region of 'sensibly get away with' If you wanted to, you could make them fit. That's what he has done - stretched tyres and rolled arches there I'd say
  17. Well they come in ET38. This gives you some room for spacing to get them just right, as depending on which brand of tyres is your preference, different tyres of the same size on the sides are actually physcially different sizes - so it's best to get them in a high offset and work out what's needed. Obviously the Octavia was not designed with the 18x9.5 wheel in mind, so you may find you need a little arch roll, both nothing drastic, and you wouldn't be able to tell it has been done unless you looked up inside the arches. I have emailed the admins/mods through the terms and conditions type section. I would like to get some cars in here for test fitting so I can advise on exact fittings etc, but will have to wait to be confirmed and presumably paid up before I can do anything with regards selling or pricing.
  18. Hello We're rarerims The answer to the question is that those SDMs aren't currently stocked in 5x100. We'd need to get a few people together to order them up, 1-off sets aren't really possible. Is it possible to set up as a trader on this site? If so, we'd be intereted in being PM'd on how to get started. We have loads of 16/17/18" options in stock .
