  1. Any more advice regarding the remap folks ? I have to decide by tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. I'm kinda 80% against it due to the advice already received but I'm still a bit tempted unfortunately. Have any of you had a quantum remap? There are 3 levels offered, power, economy and somewhere between the two...
  2. Many thanks for the info, it certainly sounds cheaper and safer to go with a decat instead of a remap. Is it legal to do this, I mean are there any issues at MOT time ?
  3. I asked the same guy at my independent specialist about the decat and he said I would see a much better result from the remap. Under normal circumstances I would put this down to the garage making £199 from the remap but this guy has proved on more than one occasion that he's willing to help me save money. I'm really unsure what to do, I have until Tuesday to decide because I'm back in there for a couple of little jobs.
  4. So you did 230K trouble free miles after a remap ?
  5. Cheers for the advice guys, does it put that much extra strain on other parts ? I guess it depends how you drive it ?
  6. Hi everyone, just came from my local independent specialist having had a bit of light suspension work, new dual mass flywheel and clutch etc and they've offered me a remap from Quantum for £199, just wondered what you guys think of this ? My car is a 1.9Tdi and has just hit 165,000 miles. It's recently had a new turbo, egr valve, 2nd timing belt and is running quite nicely. It's the 105bhp model and I do fancy the extra bhp the remap offers, any thoughts ?
  7. Ok cheers, I'm in tomorrow for the work so I'll make sure it's done at the same time...
  8. Is the slave cylinder something that needs doing at the same time then ?
  9. I'm afraid I'm one of those who spends a fortune chasing down rattles, knocks, squeaks and creaks, might be cheaper to get some earplugs
  10. Yeah it looks like it is on mine too, can't believe I didn't figure this out... Cheers guys...
  11. Hi everyone, I'm about to spend a bit of cash on a new dual mass flywheel and clutch, I'm wondering, is there anything I should look out for or avoid ? My local skoda guy suggests LUK and advises against the single mass conversion... Also while I'm here, my rear suspension is creaking loudly as people get in, I've just fitted new Sachs shocks, should I be replacing the springs too ? My car is a 1.9Tdi. Cheers guys...
  12. Many many thanks for all your comments and advice about the water ingress problem guys, it has all proved very helpful and informative.... Bring on the rain....
  13. Thanks for the info, how does the water get to the rear footwell ?
  14. That includes checking to see if it's occurred at all and any preventative maintenance to make sure it doesn't occur in the future...
  15. Thanks for the info guys, I've since found a local independent specialist who's going to sort the water ingress problem for £50... Does that sound about right ? Many thanks....
  16. Hi everyone, I'm about to have a fiddle under my bonnet now it's stopped raining to check under my battery as a couple of you guys advised me to, to see if I may be having the water ingress problem. I'm wondering though if I may have any other issues if I disconnect the battery ?
  17. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to write that up mate, very, very much appreciated, exactly what I needed. All I need now is for it to stop raining long enough to have a go. Thank you again....
  18. Cheers guys, I do appreciate the advice and I have had a look around on here, the thing is I lack the knowledge and experience to put any info from posts concerning the water ingress problem to any practical use. I think what I need is a dummy's guide to fixing or preventing the problem or a recommendation of someone who can do the job for me. Thanks again...
  19. Hello all, I've never had the water ingress problem, all carpets dry etc, however I do have a puddle light out on the passenger side. Could this be the start of the trouble ? I've mentioned the water ingress problem to a couple of local mechanics without any luck. Can someone tell me exactly step by step how to solve this problem or prevent it or even better recommend someone in the midlands area who can competently undertake such work and who's also likely to have knowledge of other Superb design flaws please ?
  20. I think you may have been right about the drive shaft, since your advice I've tried cornering out of gear just coasting and I'm yet to hear the noise whilst doing this. I assume this lends weight to the cv joint theory ? I guess I should have thought to try this before. Many thanks for your advice. Should I be sitting down or drunk or both when I find out what it's going to cost ?
  21. Ok that's something I'll get checked, thanks for the info...
  22. It's very faint and gone very quickly, 2 or 3 faint knocks as I come out of a corner so it's hard to judge if it speeds up or slows down. It sounds like its coming from behind me and nearside if I had to guess. I haven't had any new pads recently, just lots of suspension arms. Thanks for your replys guys...
  23. Hello everyone. For a few months now I've had faint knocking noise coming from my car, always at very slow speeds, usually when cornering. I've been to my local mechanic several times recently, I've replaced four of five suspension parts on the front and had new Sachs shocks fitted on both ends, each time hoping that this knocking stops only to find its exactly the same. This is very hard to describe being a non mechanically minded person but the general feel of the handling and ride of the car have been greatly improved by the new parts but there's this sort of underlying rattling to the whole thing which is so faint that passengers can't hear it, and this knocking when cornering at a constant radius at slow speeds. I'm starting to suspect that I may have some dual mass flywheel issues after reading a few posts here, could this be the cause of the noises ? Can anyone suggest any other suspension components that might be suspect other than the suspension arms, shocks I've already replaced ? I'm fairly certain this noise is not coming from the front suspension though... Cheers guys... --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?ssypg3
  24. Yes mate, it's constant, it's been there for at least 6000 miles, I warm the car up for ten minutes every morning and when I come outside to get in it's made the whole road smell like a bus garage... Thanks for the reply. I've asked a few mechanics since including Skoda again and everyone says...dont worry about it...
