  1. Hence the 'taught' bit, although all my crew had done competitive motorsport, so left foot braking wasn't a new thing to us. Safer than brake checking someone if done properly, just in case they are not fully switched on, and rear end you. I wouldn't recommend it to a novice driver, and some long service drivers are still novices, hence our country's terrible driving standards on motorways etc. be careful people, it's a jungle out there.
  2. I was taught on my first driving course to maintain my speed but change down a gear, then gently hold the brake pedal with my left foot to illuminate the brake lights whilst nailing the throttle briefly. The tailgater is then baffled into thinking that they have braked harder than in reality. (I don't think it was part of the official Police driving course though)
  3. My current hate is the wristband sellers from 'Military' charities I've never heard of who ask you loudly from across the street, "Like to help the wounded soldiers?" One, when I declined then shouted back "Don't you want to support our brave boys and girls?" I had never heard of his charity, but I went over to him and put him right on a few issues. My son was in Afghan at the time, not some scally making a living blackmailing people with a handful of wristbands. I was a little bit touchy at the time, and wearing an RBL band.
  4. When I was younger, if you'd called some of the people I worked with a Visual Linguist, your only puzzle would be whether to take your broken teeth with you to the hospital.
  5. You won't notice the planes in PDC, but you will in Matagorda, which is between PDC and the airport.
  6. Good food is all along the front on the new promenade, varied restaurants from Asian fusion to Tex Mex, good fish/tapas places on the walk over looking the harbour from the new area to Old Town. Café Ola has a sea view bar for day time chilling, and 3 different restaurants (but to be fair the Moroccan themed one, Dreams, was poor at night, but good to sit and look at the sea and drink in the day). We eat in the main downstairs one, still with a good sea view, regularly, and they have entertainments on some nights. Google it. It's not worth buying in food for breakfast, as the cafes/bars cut each others throats for trade, a small full English with juice and coffee, 2.50(Euros). My wife loves the place, it easy for me as I'm bad for walking due to disability BUUUUT I find it hellish boring. There are live bands in some bars at night, but the standard is not very high, even to a worm. The advantage is you can walk the prom on the other side of the road and hear them before risking hard earned beer money first.
  7. But wouldn't coconut oil make my chainsaw rev it's nuts off................ Oi! Who's nicked my coat.
  8. Cooking oil might fry your engine, then your equipment would have had it's chips........ I'll get my coat.
  9. Don't forget the Senior Service rankings.........
  10. Dithane, it's a Mk1 Escort, I didn't know they made any others after the Mk2! I know what the car above is, so I'll dip out and let others have a go.
  11. It is indeed a Phase 1 Standard Vanguard. Over to you.
  12. Sorry I'm late, family arrived last night, I still to ignition time the Escort for a show today, and I've just got back in, eaten, and have a minute whilst they have gone for a sail. Have this easy one:
  13. Indeed it is a Moretti Sportiva.
  14. Not a Ferrari, right area though.
  15. As soon as I saw the pic my head went "La Salle, no, Holden". It's quite a distinctive grille, but I'm disappointed no one else had a go. Try this beauty:
  16. Maybe it wasn't a double post, just an echo, "Helllooooooooo, is there anybody there ere, re, e ..... ?"
  17. Lee, having used one to see yourself going, you could use the other to see yourself coming.........
  18. That's why I don't get maths, I would ask, "Why doesn't numpty Jack just go to the last page and look at the number" I used to spend a lot of time outside the headmaster office..........
  19. This one could be interesting........
  20. Going a bit off topic, they are Weller retro steels (took 2 months to be made, then I found they were 1/4" wider than 6" and some arch rolling was req.), little 1360 screamer fitted, it was built by my son as his first car for where we lived 16yrs ago in the Yorkshire Dales. Great on B and C roads but under geared and too damn noisy (2" rally exhaust system) on motorways. It had been my older sisters car, then left under a tree, my nephew put it back on the road, then back under the tree, then my son rebuilt it, then it was in a barn for 11yrs and I got sick of tripping over it Oct 2013, so it got my stamp on it. The only thing not rusty was the glass and the air in the tyres. Not finished with the running gear yet, but I've got it looking right. And it's a hoot to drive, a bit like a proper Mini, even slow seems fast........
