  1. Could you provide some feedback once you've commuted to London on how the Yeti compares with the superb as I'm sure many will be interested to know the differences from a practical/comfort/performance/economy perspective

    Cheers

Would be happy to do that - my Superb is a 1.8T, so has plenty of power for easy motorway driving, but my wife's Monte is the 85bhp 1.2 engine and I've taken that down to London a few times with no trouble at all with the power, the only problem is that I arrive noticeably more tired as it's obviously not built to be as good at covering motorway miles (noisier, bumpier, twitchier and requires more 'driving').

I'm confident the 105bhp unit will be fine, I have a pretty light right foot and can get 45/47mpg out of the Superb on a run to London (if I stay at 70mph), so I know that the Yeti has more than enough power for the way I drive; am expecting to notice the difference more in town driving though.

  2. I did wonder if the Yeti would have cat-vision, but there's nothing in the brochure (Feb13 revision) and I've not sat in a Yeti at night, so i assumed they would be missing.

Very happy if these are standard on Elegance though, thanks!

  3. Earlier this week I decided to trade in my frankly excellent Superb Estate for a new Yeti, I had around a year left on Solutions on the Superb and would have been happy to let my PCP run out and make the change at the end, but a couple of things made me change early.

I'm not really keen on the new Skoda brand look with the sharper, slightly more aggressive front ends, and if I was going to move to Yeti then I knew I would prefer a pre FL model, and from all the signs I could find, it looks like the FL might come this summer.

My Superb is a great car (the best I've owned), but when I drive to the office in London, it's a big, and slightly stressful car to be weaving in and out of traffic and pedestrians in NW1, so I knew I needed to go down a size, and I already had one eye on the end of my PCP.

Had a chat with the dealer when my Superb was in for its 2 yr service, and a couple of days later had ordered a 1.2tsi Elegance Yeti! Fortunately there were a couple that were already built and ready to ship that were fine for me as I just wanted normal Elegance (there's nothing much I would have wanted to add to the standard spec), and hopefully the car will be here in the next couple of weeks at the latest.

The Superb has been, without any doubt, the best car I've owned, and I know the Yeti is a car that I have to make a few compromises in, most notably in the quality of the seats - the Superb seats are great, but the Yeti seats are a few notches down in comfort and support, and I'll miss the cat-vision lights in the Superb cabin which really add to night driving.

So what I lose in supreme motorway comfort, I gain in easier rush hour city driving - which seems like a fair swap as the two always go hand in hand on the same journey; and for everyday running around with the family, the Yeti is cheaper to run, certainly up to the job, and a little more fun.

Really happy to stay within the Skoda family - this will be our fourth we've had from new, 07 Octavia Estate, 11 Superb, 61 Monte (my wife's car) and honestly we've never had a breakdown or problem with any of them.....hope the Yeti proves as good!

Will likely post some pics/thoughts when it arrives...

  4. My bonnet release gradually got increasing difficult to use until one day it went 'ping', but it wasn't due to me manhandling it, it just gradually got harder and harder to open, and I think it snapping was always going to be inevitable. It was a real trial getting it fixed, had to go into the dealer for the front to be taken off so they could fit a new one.

The one thing they didn't do at the end of fixing all this was reconnect the bonnet sensor, so when my oil light came on and I topped up, the car thought I hadn't opened the bonnet, so regardless of how much oil was in the car it kept telling me to check the oil.

In the end I got so fed up with the oil light I rang Skoda UK who sent out one of their VW/Audi/Skoda technicians who spotted it in around 5 seconds, but one simple thing like a snapped cable lead to a few months of trouble!

  5. Have just bought a tablet and been through weeks of the decision making process - here's the abridged version....

Wife has a Asus Transformer Prime which is lovely but does feel flimsy and I'm sure I would break it, so after much looking around at Ipad and Android (and not really having a preference for either operating system) I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet because of the build quality which was better than anything else I could find. It really is a solid machine and I wanted something to use outside of a folio case.

They're nice things to use, but keeping them in a folio case (as my wife does) seems to take away half the fun, so I bought the best built machine I could and just bought a small zip case to transport it around.

The thinkpad was a little more costly than an iPad, but know it's suited to my needs better - each to their own!

  6. Was driving my wife's Monte yesterday (no maxi-dot) and considering this thread, and honestly I'm not sure it is an option I would choose if ordering a new car and it was a paid for add on.

Our Superb has maxi-dot and it's fine, but other than access to the options (cornering fog lights, DRL, anti-hijack doors, interior light intensity etc., all of which I've only ever set once), there's no practical information that the standard computer is missing in terms of day to day use as you get the full range of trip information.

The only thing I would miss is the 'staging' dial sweeps when you start the ignition, which still makes me smile a year down the road!

Also I quite like the green backlight for the dials in my wife's car - I presume you get white back lights with the maxi-dot? (so is a retro fit a whole new set of instruments?)

Just my thoughts..very happy with both!

  7. Thanks both.

I've tried both now and prefer the non rSAP connection, the messages came through to the car just fine, but there was no alert other than a 'new message' note on the maxidot which seemed a little too low-key for me.....that said I don't think there's a time when I need to read my text messages that urgently that the car reads them out to me (although it was quite fun), plus having some messages on the phone and some on the car sim could be confusing.

Other than that I can't see any benefit, so it will be non rSAP for me.

    thanks again

  8. Hi

Just switched phones from a Blackberry Bold 9700 to a Galaxy SII - I initially had a few problems with the BB but worked round them, but the Galaxy was working within 2 minutes...so far so good.

My normal connection with the blackberry just read on the Maxidot as

    [device name]

    [service provider]

    [signal strength]

just connected my Galaxy and the phone asked me if I wanted to allow RSAP, which I did, and the display changed to read

    [3G]

    with "PREMIUM" on the display

but everything else worked as normal.

If I deny RSAP then I get the

    [device name]

    [service provider]

    [signal strength]

message. I'm able to make calls without any problem with RSAP allowed or denied.

So, the question is; is there any advantage to me allowing RSAP?, and if so what else can I do that I can't normally do with the feature not enabled.

Hope this makes sense, could post pics if required.

    thanks in advance

  9. Hello,

Just went to open the bonnet and top up the washer fluid. Pulled the lever, felt the cable go tight and a solid pull, but the bonnet is still shut and the level now has no resistance.

This being the first time I've needed to open the bonnet, I can come up with two possible answers ....

Easy answer is that the cable has come away. Difficult answer is that I'm stupid and can't open the bonnet.

Hoping for the first but happy to hear the second ... Anyone got any ideas ?

Of course the dealer workshop is closed now .....

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago, and it wasn't as easy as you might think....

Called Skoda Assist as the car is only 6 months old - RAC guy came out, front nearside wheel off, bits of trim off and he couldn't do it.

Car went to the dealer, Skoda Assist supplied me with a rental car within an hour. Dealer had to smash the black plastic grille to get into the car (apparently, the only other option was to remove the front bumper!). Two days later car was back with a new grille and a new bonnet release cable.....no real problem to me but it seemed like a lot of work for a new cable.

    Good luck!

  10. My wife's Fiat 500 has just gone 3 years old, so it was time for a change - the last couple of family cars have both been Skoda (Octavia Estate, and currently a Superb estate) and we're really pleased with them, so off we go to Skoda.....

Liked the Monte Carlo, and the offer of 20% off, 3 years servicing and 3 years RAC is a tempting one, but sadly there were none around ready to be picked up in a sensible colour (ie not yellow), and the 20% offer isn't on new builds (it reduces to 15%)

Went to look at the DS3 (lovely, with great seats), Polo (very dull) and another 500 (much better built now than they were 3 years ago) - but the deals available were nowhere near what Skoda were offering...you are even forced to pay for breakdown cover for the first year with Citroen!

In the end we ordered a new build 1.2 Monte Carlo in white, didn't need/want any extras, and we got a price we were really happy with..had been reading about long delays on here for new builds that were a little worrying.

Have been quoted a build week in early October, so hopefully the car by early November at the latest, or should we be expecting this to slip - would appreciate any comments/experiences.

  11. Have just got to 1300 miles in our 1.8 Estate - much of it shortish journeys, but have just done round trips to London and Chester, so it's been interesting to watch consumption...

The maxidot is showing an average consumption for the life of the vehicle of 36.1mpg (works out to 35.5 when calculated accurately), but both runs have returned an average of 42mpg, so it looks like it's getting better.

Traded up from a Octavia 1.6FSI Estate, and the mpg just got better and better in this - had it from new and kept it for 3 years, the last couple of runs I did in it I could get 50mpg out of it (with sensible driving)

Am sure that the Superb will improve with age and will average out somewhere near 40mpg for 3 years.

  12. Lovely car and colour have to say! And with that registration I bet his name is Dulge? Though from one angle on the photos with the plate screw where it is, it looks more like Bulge!

I knew it was going to be a DU11 (or DULL as it looks on the plate) as that's what they had on the system, there wasn't much to choose from when I looked at the available regs, but I wanted to check that I didn't get DULL ARD!

  13. Happy new car...!!

Looking good. My steel grey Elegance estate is making its way from the factory at the moment, so it's nice to see another looking so good. The sunset glass looks good too, some people say they can hardly tell the difference, but it looks good on yours so hopefully mine will be just the same.

Does yours not have a chrome strip on the lower door panels...?

No chrome strip as it's an SE rather than an Elegance - didn't really want full leather (had it before and wasn't a big fan), and don't need sat nav, so it was the sensible choice and saved me £3K and a long wait for a build.

Based near to Shrewsbury, I guess modern housing estates all look the same!

  14. Picked up my new 1.8SE Estate in Steel Grey with sunset glass and Bluetooth prep last week – sadly it was raining when I picked it up, so it was filthy by the time I’d driven 15 miles home from the dealership.

Gave it a quick wash today, and thought I’d take a few quick snaps while it was still new and drop a few thoughts down....

The first week has been excellent, I’ve only had to make fairly short journeys, but am really impressed with the improvements over my previous Octavia (07 1.6 Elegance Estate) – it’s much more refined and quiet to drive, and just feels classier in every respect...it's SO quiet in comparison, am having to check speed carefully in 30s and 40s, as I was so used to the noise in the Octavia I obviously used this as a way of judging speed.

I certainly won’t miss the automatic wipers on the Octavia, but I will probably miss the auto dimming rv mirror as I’d got used to not worrying about it.

Not sure the front seats are as good as the Octavia, they were excellent (best/most supportive seats on any car I've had including Audi, VW, Ford), but after a 100 or so miles, the Superb seats aren't quite as supportive.

I would have never chosen Bluetooth or sunset glass as options, but got these for next to nothing as the car was already built and waiting at Emden to be shipped out (told the dealer I would buy the car, but didn’t want the extras – we came to an agreement where I paid £12 for them both!).

I really like the bluetooth prep and although it took a while to get the procedure correct for connecting my Blackberry 9780, it connects first time every time now (secret is to wait until it says no phone available, and THEN switch Bluetooth on the phone on), it finds it straight away.

It’s only done short runs to the school run so far and MPG is at 35 which is not far off what the Octavia did just on short runs, so I expect it will average out at 41-42 on more sensible use.

Really pleased with the colour – they had three identical cars to choose from when I ordered the car, they were Steel Grey, Black, and Silver…went for the one that Mrs Chucker wanted and am glad I did. Suits the car well and depending on the light can vary from light grey to almost the colour of our previous Skoda (Anthracite).

Can’t see me moving away from Skoda in the near future, I loved the Octavia and this is even better – it’s certainly quite a difference in comfort levels when I drive my wife’s Fiat 500, which in comparison is very rough and ready (although much easier to park!)

  15. I ordered a petrol estate in January and latest info is for a mid June delivery, I was originally told April. It has moved out from 9 weeks to 18 and I expect it to extend further. Im am thinking of staying with BMW as I can get a 18 month old 530i estate for about the same money. Believe it or not the 270bhp beemer has a similar combined fuel consumption to the 1.8tsi dsg Skoda. I am torn between waiting for a new car(Skoda) or staying with a car I know. What would you do?

I also wanted a petrol estate, but just checked with the dealer as to what stock was available from already built cars - I had 3 different colours to choose from the spec I wanted, 1.8SE Estate; I went for Steel Grey (other choices were black or silver) and got the extras sunset glass, bluetooth prep and an umbrella(!) for next to nothing.

Have ordered and waited for cars before but won't do it again, with the Superb, my previous Octavia and my wife's Fiat 500 we've always chosen cars built but not allocated and have had the extras for free...a little bit of flexibility on colour has always saved us time and money

It took 4 weeks for shipping from Emden to collection from the dealers...really enjoying the car!

  17. Yes but we have the SE and so there's no "Comfort" section in Maxidot. Although i don't see why controlling the central locking should have anything to do with having electronic seats.

Ours is SE and I think the central locking options are under 'Convenience' - successfully changed central locking to open on one click, and to lock at 12mph.

  18. I picked up my SE spec Superb from the dealership last Friday. Unfortunately for me, the doors take 2 clicks to open so i already need to take it to the dealers to get that setting changed.

I'm a little disappointed with Maxidot. I thought i'd be able to change quite a few settings, but unless you have electronic seats you'll find that the settings are heavily restricted. The sunset glass is also a complete waste of money.

...other than that, the car is AMAZING!

You should be able to change that in the maxi-dot (I did) - I think it is under convenience.

Really quite pleased with our sunset glass, it's much darker than I thought it would be and certainly darker than a car they have at the dealership - I guess it's a bit of hit and miss

  19. Hello

Picked up my new Superb Estate today, 1.8SE in Steel Grey with phone prep and sunset glass.

It's all good, the first 20 miles have been great, and I've been sat playing around getting my Blackberry 9780 working (took a while, but it's fine now!)

I've been in and out of the settings in the Maxidot and wonder if there's a list of all the options and settings on the Maxidot and what they change?

I've had a search on the forum and can't find them listed anywhere, and if they're in the manual I'm struggling to find them....any help appreciated, thanks.

  20. Went to order a new Superb Estate at the end of Feb, but always look for already completed builds that haven't been allocated (better value than a completely new build and quicker).

My car was in Emden when I ordered on 1st March, and is just about ready to be picked up from the dealers now, so 3 weeks in this case (just long enough to get excited about having a new car arriving, but short enough for it not to be a tedious wait!)

  21. Hello All

Have read and used the forum many times in the last few years, thought it was about time I registered!

Currently driving an Octavia 1.6FSI Elegance Estate - owned this from new and had 35K faultless miles in it; I decided after a couple of months in the car and from the quality of service I had from the dealership, that when it came time for a replacement that would also be Skoda.

So 3 years later, I have just signed on the line to take a brand new Superb Estate 1.8SE with Bluetooth Prep and Sunset glass - expect to swap cars over in the next 10 days or so.

    Looking forward to it!
