  1. I've just recieved this sat nav / camera locator. I can't get past the first screeen - the black one with the safety warning and agree button. Nothing happens when i press the agree button. The unit is brand new, and i have left it on in the car for a few hours and still nothing has happened. Is it duff? The booklet says the first time it is use it could take upto an hour to locate a signal?

Anyadvice welcome, before it goes back where it came from.

  2. I thought the whole point of using green filters instead of K&N etc was that they were not oiled because it can mess with the MAF? Mines just come out after 10,000 and its horrible and black, standard one is back in for now. Anyone else feel a bit uneasy that the rubber seal around the filter doesn't fit like the OEM part? sits in the air box instead of over the lip. bit worried stuff might get past and into the engine....

  3. The beginning of a slippery slide to mediocrity' date=' until they are just like all the others. Poor customer service, do not care about the customer, pile em high and sell at an high price.[/quote']

They are still better than Seat, at least Skoda are honest about not wanting to help their customes instead of lying to them and trying to charge them for warrenty work like a certain dealership local to me.

The seats issue is one thing, my car will have been in for a squeaky seat base for the 6th time by next month.

  4. 1 - thrash it a bit for a few days - car ECUs adjust to driving style by altering fueling parameters / timing etc.

2 - try disconnecting the MAF and seeing if the performance increases (fuel economy will drop - but it will let you know if there is an issue). common + easily fixed.

3 - use decent derv - Asda best is not the same stuff as Shell.

4 - try the pd 160 intake and filter - cheap, effective and easily reversable + invisible mods.

5 - try a remap, or even just trial - transforms the car - Customcode and others are now switchable so need not effect warrenty if your sly. a mapped FVRS feels fast for a hatch in pretty much anyones book.

  5. i've been looking into a exhaust to go with a hybrid turbo package and have been advised by jabbasport to be very careful as backpressure (moreso on TDis) can affect performance. Both Jabba and JBS reccomended Milltek. Apparantly Milltek are a bit quieter than blueflame too - depends if you want to turn heads i suppose.

  6. the one i saw was amazing - colour coded with red stiching and green lines - no hint of fluff or sagg. i would go as far to say that it exuded quality. i have been to a few places to get quotes, and even the ones on recommendation, although cheaper, didn't come close to the dealership one i saw. different source?

I've been back to the dealers twice to sit in the seats and try to persuade the GF that a retrim is esstential. She needs to contribute as she spilt spring water all over the back bench and its got horrid yellow lines and patches all over it. what sort of material is stained by bottled water!?

  7. Well' date=' well, well guess what - Letter from customer services rec'd today. Sorry cannot accept your warranty claim. Must be how I get into the car or the clothes I wear. i.e MY FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Sorry didn't know you were not supposed to sit on the seats.

OK - the fight goes on, SMMT & Motoring press now. NO-ONE CONS A YORKSHIRE MAN. I will not be beat.[/quote']

go on mate! is there anything the forum can do to support this process?

on a different note - has anyone seen the dealership approved retrim? its superb quality. i reckong thats why the material is so crap - to make you buy the

  8. Just out of intrest - how loud is that DV? Wouldn't mind a bit of a psssst, but dont want to sound like a compete ****. I have a forge 007p on my 20vt - that isnt wooosshy but does give a nice sound when 'pressing on'.

edit - why is C h A v starred - its not an offensive work, its a recognised social group?

  9. downgraded from REVO'd 1.8T leon. VRS is half the insurenace group and does twice the miles to a gallon - pretty important as i was spending £500 on fuel each month at 23 mpg.

I miss the room of the leon, and the bigger car feel. I was a lot more comfy on long motorway journeys, and especailly in traffic jams. It also looked a bit more impressive.

However, with the remap etc the VRS is quicker once off the mark, and like so many others have said, so amusing when overtaking supposedly fast' cars - 'a skoda shouldn't be able to do that, my cars a Alpha 2.0'.... IMO In gear 2-6 the mapped VRS is a match for any other hothatch on the market, pity about the launch though.

I'm changing the thin looking seat covers - retrim with added lumbar support - to try to improve the comfort on those 7 hour trips, apart from that Its a great car that deserves an accolade as a 1st class 'all rounder' for those in the know about badge snobbery.

  10. Denial, in the face of blatant and overwhelming evidence only serves to make the dealerships look cheap and dishonest. I would have much more respect for a manufacturer who put their hand up and admitted that they had made an error. There is no point in re-trimming with the same material if keeping the car - it'll only bobble again. My car is only a 55 plate and the material is thin, bobbled and marked - despite treating the fabric. Poor show Skoda.

Well done Dazza for putting in the efford to push this further. A letter to the MD of Skoda UK may be due? With a copy of this thread inclosed. ******** to the official line - they do take notice of forums because forums represent publicity.

  11. Nope - accelerates fine, its just with initial bite i get the eeeerrrak which is slowly getting longer and more noticable - could this be a gear issue?

when it went in for service the tec bloke said he couldn't hear anything, but its noticable enough to get odd looks for passengers now.

I want to get this sorted because I've got the FMIC waiting to go on, and i know the warrenty gods will not smile upon me once its fitted.

  12. A request for advice / info:

I have started getting a weird noise when I shift into 3rd gear and raise the clutch with the power on. It sounds like clutch slip but only happend 2nd-3rd and 4th-3rd.

No problems 1st -2nd etc. even under daft acceleration, whereas the noise can happen going into 3rd even under mild acceleration - its like a short 'eeeeak'

Anyone know what this is likly to be - the cars only 4 months / 10,000 old :(

I have had clutch slip before in previous car, but only ever 1st-2nd when hammering it.

  13. This sort of dealership behaviour / official line seems to have spread from Seat to the other memebers of the VAG group. Poor show, i would encourage people to email Skoda UK repeatedly. I had to resort ot the same measueres with Seat on a warrenty issue.

Personally - i'm goingfor a leather retrim as soon as i can afford it as the seat already look scruffy, marked and thin. Any reccomendations for a retrim agent?

  14. Has anyone got a working version (will read all fault codes) of VAGCOM? If anyone has i'm looking for somone to help me out with the VRS before it goes in for service - checking to see if I need to clear max engine revs exceeded fault again. Obviously I will travel if needs be, and am prepared to pay in beer for assistance.

I have a laptop, VAGCOM lead (seriel) and a version that lets me change certain settings, but because my lead is so old i can't find a newer version of VAGCOM that it works with and will do a full fault code check. :(
