  1. Artichoke, I think all United 11 is saying is that the guy told him that had it not been under warranty, it would have cost him £350. However, it was under warranty, job done, and free car wash too. However as an OCD (obsessive compulsive detailer) - I wouldn't have thanked them for washing my car -ouch, think of the holograms! Please correct me if I'm wrong, United 11
  2. Doubt that you can fit bi-xenon / adaptive internals to a regular halogen headlamp. Since I've never fitted the repair kit, I can't say whether the Passat one is the same. I would doubt that it is. If only the website you found had illustrations, you could compare the pictures with the eBay listing. Reckon it's a trip to your local friendly Skoda Parts Department - hopefully the repair kit will do the job..........
  3. My 2012 model year 1.4tsi came on Conti Sport Contact 2's. Not only are they very quite, but at 25,000 miles I still have 4mm on the front and 6.5-7.0 on the back. OK, I don't throw the car round corners, but I still think that is pretty excellent wear.
  4. Surely not just for agnostics..... People of faith, and even atheists for that matter, should be able to use this software..... :wonder:
  5. Just occurred to me that they are maybe meant to be can holders, for soft drinks?
  6. No - will only hold one - in forward position. I've not found it hinder the handbrake
  7. 18 oz Bubba Not easy to get in UK. Either bring back from US, or pay silly price on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-Bubba-Keg-Travel-Tumbler-18oz-Hot-Cold-Office-Desk-Car-Holiday-BBQ-/151109469843?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Food_SM&hash=item232ed38693
  8. The Austro Daimler Puch factory in Graz, Austria, where bicycle production ended in 1987
  9. Maybe this is just sour grapes and jealousy on my part, but the Superb III will not be arriving for 3 or 4 years. You are taking delivery of a Superb II F/L. I'm sure you will enjoy it, and I, for one, think the changes are attractive. However, it is still a Superb II and therefore I would query the need for a new forum sub-category. The Octavia II drivers didn't get one when the F/L arrived in 2009.
  10. Can't offer any tips - I must say I haven't found a problem, and I've done 850 miles in a 24 hour period, without any aches - BTW I'm 6'1" - and wear 33" leg trousers - don't know if height or leg length is an issue?
  11. Don't know about Steyr Daimler Puch, but here's a picture of an Austro - Daimler Puch: This is the last one ever built - I did not own this one, but did own the same model built in the previous year. By the time I finally retired it, the only original part left was the frame. I bought the bike 'used', and put close on another 15000 miles on it - more than a lot of folks do on a motor bike! (I know I've gone way off topic, but hey, this is that sort of forum!)
  12. Sure, Skoda Fan, explanation taken - - sorry if I felt "sorry people, but there it is" sounded a wee bit like a rebuke - my bad. On the subject of a PICNIC cause (not clause) - I was simply trying to rule out operator error, (sometimes referred to as Problem In Chair Not In Computer - or in this case, Car. Sure, if the function can be switched off in software, then I'm sure it can be switched on again. (Any VCDS warriors out there and able to comment? I have VCDS and a Ross-Tech cable, but no experience of stop-start menus.)
  13. It is a sometimes frustrating, but frequently amusing, reality that threads on Briskoda go off topic. This is often (especially) the case when the question asked has no obviously 'correct' answer. Your second post conveys something of a rebuke, and I'm not sure that that is the best way to build community spirit on your first visit to the forum. To address your original question Could their test kit have switched it on or jolted it into life? - Unlikely. Logic systems are changed by a change of coding, not by the applying of a voltage. Could there be a hidden switch to permanently switch it off? - Again, unlikely. However, it may be able to be switched on and off in software, either via VCDS or possibly the Maxidot MFD? If the wires to the switch were permanently "made" or "broken" dependent on the correct configuration, could the system be permanently off? Possibly.............. "I know I am clutching at straws but I itch to know the answer." - In all honesty, the best person to answer your question is the tech who'fixed' it (even though he said there wasn't a problem.) You've only had it 7 weeks - could it have anything to do with your actual practice when stopping? Just trying to rule out a PICNIC cause......
  14. Takes getting used to. First encountered it two years ago in a rental Passat Bluemotion 1.6 (rental agent never thought to mention it had 'stop-start') Thought I had stalled at the first set of lights - by the third time, I finally realised what was going on....... (my petrol Superb doesn't have 'stop-start', but most passengers think it does - because when you stop at a set of lights you can't hear the engine (even with the radio and air-con off)
  15. I think the RAC guy is an optimist... So glad mine came with full size unused spare and jack kit - perhaps one of the benefits of buying a 10 month old car that came straight from Skoda UK......
  16. I wish, I wish, I wish.......... 17. First, check the lampholder for corrosion - not unknown for there to be dampness in there. Next, may be a broken wire. Have you got folding mirrors? - puts more strain on the wires entering the mirror head.
  18. Oi! Don't diss Marinas! My 1980 1.7L served me well right through Uni. And nothing ever went wrong with that car that couldn't be fixed with a socket set and spanners. (Oh, and a soldering iron to repair the alternator once!) Don't remember ever finding the OBD-II connector on it either - All electrical diagnostic functions were covered by a good old fashioned Avometer!
  19. Hi asharma Maybe some help in this thread....... http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/259837-fuel-cap-is-stuck/?hl=%2Bfiller+%2Bflap#entry3089710
  20. Or have all interior trim pieces wrapped in 'piano black' vinyl............
  21. Great! Another word to add to my German vocabulary!
  22. I guess their primary purpose is to hold stuff in place on the boot floor. The twin-door (don't know about Combi) has two metal hinged D-loops on each side of the boot floor. I guess you can use these straps to anchor stuff to them?. There is probably a huge big long Czech or German word that describes it perfectly - it will have lost something in the translation into english!
  23. THis is how it fits on the twin-door:
  24. Two of them on my twindoor, holding my warning triangle in it's Skoda-appointed place (just below the boot lip)
  25. And, you know, the Bentley is 6 years old, and it's really just a VW Phaeton with a bit more metal and a fancy radiator grille.......... or am I getting mixed up with another thread ? :wonder:
