  1. Can't offer you any direct experience as I haven't done this to an Octy yet but the parts explosions for the steering column are here and the steering wheel here. There are also several youtubes (search for "octavia 2 steering column disassembly") such as these: HTH!
  2. A little bit sideways of the 'official' topic but hopefully close enough ... With my wife's retirement looming I've started looking at electric-assist bicycles (she is asthmatic and has limited raw pedal power) to get us out and about post-lockdown. Any experience / advice / recommendations out there?
  3. I for one would appreciate the courtesy of a "heads up" about a vehicle for sale that is inaccurately or dishonestly described. For your own sake I suggest that any such note should be couched in terms of "it would seem" or "in my opinion" in order to prevent any legalistic backlash to you for offering an "expert" opinion.
  4. You're looking for part 3 here but I can't tell which variant you need. Perhaps a call to your local Skoda dealer with the part numbers could help? (later) I think this might be your switch but absent a piccy I'd suggest emailing them to ask.
  5. According to Parkers: Private Price £660 - £880 Dealer Price £1,355 - £1,930 Based on 150,000 miles with no optional extras So you can uprate it as your mileage is so low.
  6. I'm not familiar with the garage labour rates in your area but that does seem a little steep for head off, reseat valves, replace seals and rebuild. Are they suggesting skimming the head as well?
  7. Apart from doing what @J.R. suggested give some thought to the condition of the car as it is otherwise. Is it a clean runner or does it have other problems? When was the cambelt last done? Is the clutch OK? Tyres, brakes etc. all these add up when looking at the value of a car to keep versus sell. I'm assuming yours is a 2.0tdi 6 speed BMM engine?
  8. Reports are the driver walked away, presumably shaken but not stirred ... I wonder BTW who was holding his beer?
  9. "After losing control of his Skoda just before 06:00 BST on the Bay Gateway between the M6 and Heysham, the 21-year-old was left hanging upside down. Lancashire Police said he would now go on a driver alertness course." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-53347181
  10. Had one of those in heavy traffic on the M65 t'other day. Didn't half cause a furore!
  11. OK, thanks. Nice of them to concentrate the prey into designated areas Are the regs still "as is"? The painted areas are for guidance not in law?
  12. The first thing I will need is a manual! What are the red bits about?
  13. It looks like part of the turbo boost plumbing but without your engine code and year it's hard to be more specific.
  14. Assuming your car colour is black you want parts 24 & 25 from here, available from here and here.
  15. It doesn't appear on the parts diagram so I suspect it's not available as an OEM part. You might find it cheaper to source a used complete regulator.
  16. You would need ar$ecam footage in this case, would you not?
  17. If the various specialist sites are anything to go by the answer is no, but I can do a real-life comparison for you late next week once I get back home as I have a mk1 and a mk2 towbar in the garage.
  18. I think you're looking for item 3 here. Skoda Parts have them listed at Euro 15 a pair, which should give you some idea of pricing.
  19. Do your tail lights work OK? Have you checked for continuity from the bulb sockets to earth? There's a common earth point near the multiplayer CD head on the LHS which is also where the rear screenwash pipe runs, and where there is often a join which can leak - hence the possibility of a corroded earth point.
  20. As per the title, I'm looking for something to keep a record of maintenance and fuel but ideally one that will tie in to the standard Skoda maintenance schedules. There are quite a few available on t'interwebs but having trawled through about a dozen today I'm hoping to trim the job down a bit! I know I could create one from my service schedule but I'd [refer to not reinvent the wheel (as it were). Any advice out there?
  21. As far as I can tell the rear axle final drive unit is the same up to 2008-05-25 when it changes part number. There is a suggestion that the final drive unit is common across all the VW range and does not vary by vehicle or type but this needs verifying further. There are plenty of final drives on offer on fleabay - budget about 400 squid - and check it will fit your car. You don't want to buy a new one - over 3k plus labour! I don't know the workshop details for changing over a final drive - that's next. The parts diagram for your year of mk2 Octy 4x4 is here. Check from your VIN which of the two versions should apply.
  22. I think I may be in a similar position, in my case for a 2.0tdi '07 scout. From what I've discovered so far it seems the diff & haldex are all in one housing and said housing is the same for all mk2 4x4 cars. What I'm not clear at this stage on is whether the internals are different depending on the power output of the motor, plus the different wheel sizes in use. I'll keep digging ...
  23. The initial report suggested there were police 'on scene' for the recording but a later report stated a Yorkshire patrol came across the incident 'after the fact'
