  1. Just out of interest where have skoda hidden my octy 4x4s intercoolers? is it completely out of the way somewhere, just in case it gets any air on it? It cant be as silly as my old celica GT4's top mount can it? (anyone who knows these cars knows how hot they get and so after a drive of 5 mins the intercooler is toasted...)
  2. anyone got a picture of the 4x4 ones? I need some, I think the previous owner couldnt lift up their legs and was wearing armour plated heels at the same time...
  3. yeah true, basic tesco fuel is as good as coal, but this 99 is great for 94p or something. suppose as long as you keep the injectors and engine flushed regularly, you should be ok.
  4. you are probably right, but the truth is I really noticed a difference switching from normal petrol to tesco 99 ron but nothing switching from normal to optimax except the rough idle! I did buy the optimax from 2 garages at 2 different times, but both times the same result. Tesco 99 ron gave more power at medium revs, you could feel the car wanting to respond all the time when cruising at motorway speeds. I really recommend it. but anyway, its back to the great fuel debate eh!
  5. guess I will just have to keep an eye on it, suppose switching from tesco 99 ron to optimax might not have helped the night before. not that I shall be using optimax again, rough as a dog idle compared to the smooth 99 ron stuff.
  6. Well it was a cold damp morning this morning, and started my octavia 4x4 and it made its usual racket but the revs were all over the shop, it went up to 2k and then acted like it was trying to reduce this immediately and kept bouncing back up again to prevent stalling. makes a weird sound with all this quick rev adjusting too. is this normal behaviour, its my first cold (<5 deg) start since buying ? 3 mins down the road, idle was fine.
  7. must say I was quite impressed on my drive home last night in the rain at how well my standard octy 4x4 coped with lots of nice long empty roundabouts. it even compared quite nicely with my old celica gt4, all be it with a bit more body roll and a little bit of understeer before the rear wheels kicked in. It got me wondering if anyone had got comparitive track day times of similarly tuned 4x4's vs vRS's to see what the differences are? Granted the tyres and wheels probably make more difference than anything, but it would still be interesting.
  8. dont suppose it could simply be a characteristic of the engine and the ecu not controlling the overboost properly as mentioned earlier? anyone running aftermarket boost controllers that have noticed an improvement? I just had mine checked out when being serviced and nothing was found either.
  9. The more I drive my 4x4 the more I notice that it makes a clunk noise when selecting some of the gears, in particular 3rd. Its not all the time, only when I hurry to change, so is it me not hitting the gate properly or something more sinister? It slips into gear nice and smoothly it just makes the metallic clunk sound. The gearbox has always been the one thing I dont really like about the octavia, seems far too vague and the spring loaded stick doesnt suit. Maybe its just taking its revenge on me for slating it!
  10. cool! thanks, will do a search, didnt think such a silly thing would be a known issue!!!
  11. hit the auto wind down button on the drivers side today and it auto wound down. no suprises there. hit the auto wind up button after finished talking through said window, wound up almost all the way and then it went in reverse and wound itself down again!!! did this a couple of times, before working properly again. i wondered whether any rain could have got into it somehow to cause this problem. but any other ideas or solutions much appreciated!
  12. ok another thought, we all know that optimax/bp ultimate have lower octane rating than tesco super 99 RON, but we also know supermarkets dont put cleaning additives into fuels so whats best, higher ron vs cleaner fuel???
  13. ok, its just I know scoobies and some mazda's need the ecu reset.
  14. ok, just bought some optimax, does the octy ecu need to be reset to enable any benefit from it as I know several cars do need this, or is the ecu clever enough to work it out after a while? any ideas?
  15. actually they handle ok, better than the old pirelli 6000s that were on there, a bit of slide in the wet around roundabouts, but at least its controlable and theres nothing wrong with a bit of 4 wheel drift!
  16. they were both the same price hence I didnt notice until I saw the ugly tyre tread! 70 quid a corner.
  17. any good as i just went to get eagle f1's and the monkeys put on the wrong ones, only noticed when they had all 4 on, and i didnt want to argue with them all...
  18. ah not opened the door! so its not trying to send me mad then! phew.
  19. so when does the autolock activate? mine seems to be playing tricks on me, sometimes it locked itself other times it didnt, I had assumed it didnt have an auto lock and it was just the lock button being pressed accidentally while in my pocket? confused!!!
  20. its stopped now.... dont know why, but at least its stopped. maybe it was my brain ticking...
  21. just talked to a mate who has had a few turbo cars in the past and its more than likely boost spiking, caused by the extra solenoid alongside the actuator (enables a limp home mode if the ecu detects problems) being too slow to react to the boost ramping up and so you get the initial big boost, it then panics and cuts the boost before reacting again and allowing the boost to come back to the proper controlled level. only fixed by fitting a better aftermarket boost controller. interesting stuff!
  22. cheers mate! I figured that, its just more subtle than my old GT4, so wasnt quite sure!
  23. ok yet another new owner anxiety! I have noticed that particularly when in second driving around a roundabout or similar low speed controlled manouvre, the car accelerates and then seems to hesitate (you can notice the lack of acceleration) and then pulls again after a second or so. Is this simply turbo lag or something more sinister? Car seems fine when being booted its only this gentle type of acceleration that is needed when navigating tricky situations. And I know the answer will be 'just boot it everywhere!' but I have only had it a few days!!
