  1. Yeah I was very surprised too, it does have some surface rust on the wishbones and rear axle. But, I have already purchased a load of new parts, and it’s booked in to ‘AJ Rust Protection’ in July for the works! Picking it up tomorrow 28.02.2024, let’s pray the M6 is kind to me tomorrow 🤣
  2. #445 is up for sale… https://www.facebook.com/share/p/BUoXXaaSA5x8WDy7/?mibextid=79PoIi
  3. Mega thread bump... I sold this to a regular customer of my cousin's garage back in 2020, it is still going strong, MOT history check shows it still wants for nothing, not a single advisory!! .....I'm back in the game now after flirting with a short lived Subara Forester! New thread here:
  4. When I went to view it, the number one concern I had was the mention of corrosion in the previous MOT, it mentioned the wishbones and the rear lower spring seat, but I was very happy to see it was just the surface rust which most cars of this age will no doubt show signs of. The sills are all solid, there are some stone chips here and there and I could see some swirl marks on the roof, but it is still in amazing condition. Oddly it still has the blue plastic delivery protectors stuck on the boot carpet and along the silver vRS sill trim! That leads me on to the interior, it looks as though it has never been sat in, the rear seats for sure have never been graced, everything looks like it would had you just pulled out of the main dealers forecourt from buying it! So, my plans are to completely refresh the suspension, I have already ordered several items today in preparation, the rear axle will need to be attacked and painted and the paintwork will need some touch ups and a professional detail job to bring it right up to 'scratch', Now I said I would keep it standard and that really is my plan, and when I refresh the suspension it will look standard to all but those of you with a keen eye! I was toying with the idea of a RARB, and as it happened I just thought I'd see what was knocking about, anyway I bought a brand new Whiteline rear kit off Amazon of all places for £126! This set the ball rolling so I have now ordered Bilstein B4 shocks, Eibach 25mm Pro-Kit, new bump stops, new dust sleeves, new top mounts, new rear upper/lower spring seats, new wishbones, ball-joints, consoles bushes and genuine bolts throughout! ...and that's about it, I have no further plans other than to enjoy it, maintain it and hopefully keep it for a very, very, very long time!
  5. On 18th February 2024 I purchased number 010 of the ever dwindling vRS SE's still on the road. I patiently await my annual leave at the end of this week, then just a couple more days and I can then collect it on 28th, to say I'm an excited old boy is an understatement! Brief history, it was bought new by a gentleman from Inverness who in his 14 year ownership only clocked up 16,570 miles! At this point on 5th January 2021 (which is also my birthday) it failed its MOT, all trivial, but was obviously the final straw and he sold it to WeBuyAnyCar 😮 on checking the history there is no 2020 MOT so I'm putting that down to Covid and lockdown. The car was then picked up by a trader in Ross-On-Wye who did the work necessary to pass it's MOT and then it was purchased by HSVRS who set out making it a winner again. I have to say he did not waste any time, nor did he cut any corners when it came to replacing parts, he sourced all genuine items from TPS branches to bring it back to its former glory! New osf/osr door locks New AC condenser and pressure switch Hew headlights New discs and pads New Michelin Pilot tyres, alloy refurb with new badges New scuttle trim New battery and cover New aerial and base New wipers New rear ns light cluster New front and rear vRS badges New rear Fabia badge New ns rear arch liner New door seals using VW repair kits It's obviously wanted for nothing and has lived a very pampered life, and still only has 18,075 miles on it. I can't wait to show you the folder which contains the original purchase receipt, delivery inspection sheet, every single invoice for work done, there is the original SE brochure (which I was only last week searching for one to buy) even a Automotive Print of the vRS SE. I'll take a breath, and then post what I've purchased already for it, and my plans, which shouldn't be great, but old habits die hard and where an improvement can be made sometimes you just have to do the right thing!
  6. Yes this is true, I'm already on the hunt for OE parts for the SE which I'm picking up next week 😍 I suppose some items you would look to replace with better items, but then you've modified it, and as you say as part dry up, there is no choice but to fit aftermarket parts.
  7. Thank you, like I said I tip my hat to you for meticulously maintaining it and sorting it. Thankfully for me ULEZ is not an issue for me, plus I ride my ‘push iron’ to work so the SE will be having an easy life 🤣 I’ll be sorting out the running gear and refreshing anything else that may need a tickle up. 🙏🏾
  8. The sill corrosion was what put me off #667.... re. #010... While the comments on the MOT regarding corrosion were justified, it does make it sound worse than it is, the rear axle and front wishbones are a bit crusty, but by no means falling apart, they'll be the first thing I address, I will replace all the suspension, mounts, bushes and get the axle and wishbones sorted. After going over the car, it's history, all the invoices, service book, there was no way I was not going to try and strike a deal for the purchase. It is a credit to the owd dears who bought it new, and to the previous owner who was very meticulous with it's upkeep!.... @Dean I am the new owner of #010, please can you update the register ☺️
  9. Yeah actually I’m all for better economy 👴🏾
  10. I think now I'm reaching the half century in age, I'm going full circle 👴 I'm now at the point where I want another Fabia vRS, but totally standard. I've modified every single car I owned since I passed my test in 1993, I just am not interested anymore.
  11. I'm going to view #010 on Sunday, so I'll bare it in mind when looking through the history, the previous owner has been very helpful and has given me confidence that it's a good motor.
  12. In what way would you say they’re more trouble?
  13. Wow that’s amazing!! 😲 Good to hear! I’m adamant on keeping my next vRS standard, I just have to find the right one! 🙏🏾
  14. Just caught up on the last 4 years of updates since I left VRS ownership.... Wow!... Just Wow!... 😵
  15. Morning all, After a hiatus of about 4 years, I’ve come crawling back begging for forgiveness 🙏🏾 Sold my modified VRS in 2020 as I was moving up into Yorkshire, the roads although fun, were susceptible to being closed due to snow etc… so I sold it on and bought a Forester 2.5 XT! I now live in Sunny Stoke and after a period of two years with one household car (I cycle 2 miles to work) I’ve decided to come back to the fold…. I’m on the hunt for the SE variety and want a totally standard, unmolested and loved motor! That’s a very long winded post when all I actually wanted to know is who drives a totally standard VRS?…. and do you prefer it if you have had a modified model in the past?
  16. I’m in exactly the same boat, I sold my one and only VRS a few years back after a very long ownership, regretted it ever since. This too has caught my attention, but again £12k seems awfully high. I would like to pick up an SE, but does 18k mileage warrant that amount? Also 667 on eBay, which has 50k mileage, but still £8,490 again a lot more than I was expecting.
  17. What is the correct way to calculate mpg?.. it was good while it lasted Bought a GTB2056vk, PD150 head bolts amongst other things which I hadn't planned on, but things keep coming up at good prices
  18. Turns out I have bought a Piper decat downpipe and a Miltek system, I was scratching my head wondering where the Miltek stamp was on the downpipe, then it was pointed out to me that it looks different to the Miltek offering. Emailed Piper and they confirmed it, I'm happy with it none the less. Got home from the 40 odd mile round trip to collect the exhaust to see the same firm had listed a Cupra Tdi for breaking, so I went back for the strut brace. A productive couple of days. Not bad fuel economy, I pottered on the M62 around 70mph with the odd overtaking manoeuvre
  19. Miltek exhaust system collected, very happy as I was looking to pay just shy of £200 for a manifold alone, paid £250 for the lot, I love a bargain.
  20. Few more bits arrived and a breakers local to me have a Fabia in which has a full Miltek exhaust system, so I'm going to collect that tomorrow, love a bargain
  21. Love your updates, your attention to detail does make me envious though, but also spurs me on to keep plugging away at mine.
  22. A massive career change has put paid to any big plans I'd had for the Fabia. But I've kept the car and used it daily and I'm happy to say it still hasn't missed a beat! Fitted the Cupra splitter and ripped it off a few months later on a low kerb, then re-fitted it. It's a little grazed on the near side, so I'm contemplating ditching it. had toyed with the idea of selling the Spiders, so didn't fit them until today I gave the car a damn good clean and polish as I'd neglected that department, it came up good, so that spurred me on to fit the alloys. I've also wound the coilovers down more, they are at their lowest at the rear now, I don't like the idea of removing the rear adjusters to go lower so that is it as far as ride height goes. I've seen a fellow members car running wide steels and they look fantastic. So after fitting the Spiders I dropped the steelies off at my pals for the tyres and weights to be stripped off. I'm going to get them banded by a local firm originally named 'Banded Steels' I'm thinking nothing crazy as I don't like aggressive poke, so 7.5J front and 8J at the rear will look nice. Had the car on the ramp at the garage as I noticed a leak. Turns out the intercooler is on the way out, so I've bitten the bullet and ordered a Airtec Seat Sport style FMIC and pipework as well as a egr delete kit, so they are going on as soon as they arrive. Then I will need to find somewhere to have it mapped (recommendations welcome). That's where I'm up to as of today, I'll update again when the Airtec is going on.
