  1. I drive a 54 L&C Estate, had it for 6 years , now close to 198k, never let me down, had the usual problems you will see on here, sticky door locks, all down to the control mechanism being in the drivers door and gets wet. sticky Vanes, I usually do the Mr Muscle clean once a year with the elephant mod, seems to help. whether its the weight I carry ? but I wear tyres down , if I get the chance of another I would buy it. heated seats in Winter are Nice
  2. I have an 04 Octy 1 with aircon and that has 2 fans, from the front the one on the left is for the air con. I have a similar problem in that its losing water via the expansion overflow, i've since found my rad fan ( right one) is dead and i've just replaced that, with one off ebay. I'm also going to change the thermostat but for the moment i've just taken the thermostat out. just been on a 30mile drive engine up to temp but fan did not kick in, so like an answer above there must be enough airflow through the rad when driving I came on here to look for where the relays are fitted, to bypass it to see if fan kicks in
  3. If the bearing is worn, you will hear it, have no doubts about that,
  4. Hi All, I'm pretty new to the site, but found its a great place to look if you have any problems, i'm driving a 54 octy 1.9 diesel estate on 164K, lately it has lost its oomph, with a noise that sounds like some coins scraping in a bowl, limp mode, emission light appearing etc, following links, I discovered Loftys Mr Muscle treatment guide , with nowt to lose but time, I gave it a go, to say it went easy wouldnt be quite right, one of the allen screws was a bitch to get out, but out it did come. I didnt have quite the right tubing ( a bit too big) but it did go down into the Turbo, and as the white foam did come out the inlet it must have worked, working the actuator does hurt the thumb a bit but it did free up, then went for a warm up run, as I accelerated above 15mph I got an almighty screeching noise, a bit like a squealing fan belt on a alernator with worn bearings. motor ran fine tho ? the noise seems related to the accelerator foot pressure, figuring that it was some dislodged coke deposit I did the 2nd gear redline and indeed blew a goodly amount of black out the exhaust. back to the house slightly worried as screeching remained, then on to here and got really worried when i read posts on turbo failings and the big exspense involved. and NOT to drive it if it is a turbo failing decided only course was to try the treatment again, and maybe dissolve more coke deposit away, when it had cooled, first went to take the 2 nuts of the connecting pipe, and found I hadnt tightend them up fully, I had left a 2 mm gap, the horrible noise was coming from the metal gasket vibrating, hence it was related to accelerator pressure. Allthough I only knew this as I took it straight out for a test drive, Silence , and much improved power. so all ended up fine, but a question if anyone can answer, How often can this treatment be done, every 6 months ?, a year?, or wait untill limp mode appears again. I'm an urban driver rarely doing more than a 10 mile drive, and hardly any motorway, Am I better doing a run on the motorway every now and then to "Excerise" the engine ? so thanks to all the people who post, in the end I thinks i spent longer on the forum reading than i did doing the job, I must have missed the bit on check everything isput back right n tight. 5. Sorry fellow forum members, I have read loads of posts on here about what type oil, etc, etc. and have come to believe that for my 54 MK1 octavia 1.9 TDI I will need to use the oil best bought from the dealers. I have been offered FREE UNOPENED 25lts of this. Shell RIMULA 15W40 RT4 API C1-4 CH-4 CG-4 CF-4 ACEA E7 E5 E3 GLOBAL DHD-1 ECF1-A CUMMINS CES20378 77 76 75 72 71 DDC 92K215 MACK EO-M EO-M+ MAN 3275 MB APPROVAL 228:3 RENAULT TRUCKS RLD-2 VOLVO VDS-3 I'm guessing this is for big diesel engines, any knowledgable oil folk out there like to say this is ok for a tdi engine. or say that its just not worth the risk, and i'm a idiot for even thinking it .
  6. If you Check the for sales section you will see that you would be able to sell almost everthing, Indeed I myself would buy some parts, but as others have said you would need time and space
  7. Many Thanks, its a Mk1, as you say the central bit of the bonnet is more rectangular, So at least I know which camp to follow. dissembling the caliper tommorrow, after i read on here about it first of course.
  8. Dont Know, its a 54 plate, how do I tell the difference between a mk1 and a mk 2 ?
