  1. My car is now 7 yrs old and covered 150k miles. I do quite a bit of night time driving and have recently noticed that dipped beam seams rather dim. I'm thinking that maybe the xenon bulbs are getting a bit old?

    1. Is the D2S the correct type of xenon bulb fitted to a Superb MK1?

    2. How easy are they to replace?

    3. Will the beam alignment need setting up afterwards?

  2. Car is 1.9 PD130

    Car has done 136K and I have done all my own servicing on it since 10K apart from the cambelt changes which I've got the dealer to do, but I have never looked at the EGR valve. My driving is 95% motorway and I have not noticed anything amiss with the way the car runs tick over or moving and still returns around 48 - 50 mpg, but should I remove it and clean it or if no apparent problems leave it alone?

  3. Please excuse the cheek but:

    I have a problem with wifes my 1.9 (130) 04 plate Toledo (I do own a Superb so I'm not really an "outsider". I've been on the Seat forum and it's just nowhere as good as this forum!)

    The problem is, is that it's making a sort of light metalic tinkle / rattle from the alternator area. I've replaced the aux drive belt as it's been on the car since new and has now done over 140k. I did check the tensioner for roughness and free play in the pulley bearing and the same for the alternator but both did seem okay but obviously there was no tension actually on them at the time. If you look at the tensioner it seems to judder quite a bit, not sure if that's normal. If you slighlty increase the engine speed the problem goes away.

    Has anybody got any ideas what the problem might be. Don't want to replace the alternator to find that it's still doing it.

    The car would have to be the MK2 version as my company will not allow a car of more tham 7yrs of age. So my next question is, is the CR engine okay? I know this is the MK1 forum so apologies if I miss lead you into thinking I was thinking of getting another MK1. Hope you don't mind answering the question in the incorrect forum.

  5. I currently own a 130PD diesel car, which has been rock solid engine wise, but will have to change my car within 12 months (company rules!).

    I've seen all the topics on the oil pump failing on the 140PD engine. What are the practicalities of getting the pump replaced say every 80k miles? What I mean is, is it an expensive job to do? I.E. more than £150 to £200?

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  6. Bought MAXSCAN VAG405 from Amazon. (£50 with postage. Dealer wanted to charge £40 just to read the error code!) Did a scan and fuel temp sensor showing as faulty, Looks like that is a common fault. Anyway reset error and message and light has gone out, so will see if it returns. Got another question, maybe I should start a new post.   7. Car is 1.9 TDI 130 on a 55 plate.

    I am getting "emissions workshop" message displayed whenever I start my car. Checked the glow plugs and found 3 open cct or very high resistance so have replaced all 4. However this has not cured the problem. I am unsure exactly how the glow plugs should operate. I know that during start up they will not come on unless the temp is below +9c, but even above +9c will they come on for a short period of time once the engine is running to ensure that the diesel is being completely burnt during engine warming up? I have metered the power to the glow plugs and there is nothing at all before engine start or immediatly after the engine is running. What relay is used for the glowplugs and where is the fuse for glowplugs?

    If the glow plugs are operating correctly do you have any ideas where to look next? Unfortunatly I do not have access to vagcom.
