Why are UK Car Registration Plates going to 70 in September?
I tried that years ago, but not many Hillman Avengers have made it to the present

Why are UK Car Registration Plates going to 70 in September?
Strangely, I remember a car registration for a Hillman Avenger that followed our family car for several miles through Northumberland, almost 50 years ago. I remember it only had single headlights per side, while our Avenger had twin lights (no idea what our cars reg was though ). HBB473K weird or what? I can barely remember where my front door is. My brother used to be able to recall it too. Must check

Here is another way of mounting a mic. It's nice and close to the mouth, but you do lose a bit of 'top' with it under the chin, although you can fix that in post-production. But it is nearer the mouth so it's proximity will decrease background sound, also it is out of the way of the seatbelt.....doesn't look so good though, but if you want to hear the words sometimes you have to compromise

My brain is clearly too small to be able to cope with two different system of registering cars.

This lady shows you how to clip the mic on your body, but it's the same for the seat belt, the advantage of the belt is it is less likely to rub against the mic, whereas if you wear the mic on your shirt you may get some contact and hence a loud rubbing or banging sound. If the wind noise is ever too much, you need to get what we call a 'hamster' which is a furry little ball that pulls over the mic and is transparent to sound...it will muffle it a little, but you can fix that to good degree in 'post'. You can hide mics under clothing, but again with a seat belt placement has to be very carefully thought of in advance. Of course you may not want to see a mic at all, although a black mic on a black seatbelt isn't too bad, but if it is an issue then your sunshade will probably be best for that compromise. From what I heard in your vid the mic picked up a lot of background noise with the roof on but improved a lot when the roof was dropped. The audio quality of the mic is good though These are the ones we often use, but are a little pricey for a hobby set up https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rycote-065501-Windjammer-Lavalier-Black/dp/B008EUMPWE/ref=sr_1_15?dchild=1&keywords=rhodes+personal+mic+windshield&qid=1593206014&s=electronics&sr=1-15 Rhodes do a cheaper one https://www.amazon.co.uk/RØDE-MINIFUR-LAV-Artificial-Wind-Shield/dp/B00539YQ08/ref=pd_sbs_421_3/257-5460470-6973867?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00539YQ08&pd_rd_r=9e09bd71-bafa-4b90-98e5-9e4bd089e261&pd_rd_w=zkktu&pd_rd_wg=dRAg6&pf_rd_p=2773aa8e-42c5-4dbe-bda8-5cdf226aa078&pf_rd_r=Y0MBV4AQCG42DD1V2BEV&psc=1&refRID=Y0MBV4AQCG42DD1V2BEV Generally the windgags are a tiny piece of cloth with a ballistic fibre covering and an elasticated 'mouth' that pulls over the mic to form a sort of mini furball (think of a teeny Tribble if you of that age ). It never feels like a tight fit though, so expect it to feel like a fantastic professional bespoke cover...and make sure they are fully on as they can come off! Sorry, one more thing. We often find that the first attempt at placement in a tricky environment isn't the one we stick with. Trial and error is a great way to find the optimum position for your circumstances and although it's good to have a sensible starting point, you should accept it may not ultimately be the best place for a mic. .

When I was selling cars it didn't seem to make much difference to overall sales, but it was a little easier for Dealerships to manage

Help needed with microphone please!
I've only just found this thread. The personal mics we use in broadcasting are usually things like the Sony ECM77 and 88 as well as Sennheiser MK2s and various Sures, Sankens etc. The staple for a cable lapel mic though is the Sony ECM77 @ around £300 (it has a battery so does not need phantom powering if you don't have it. Rhodes produce a variety of great 'value for money' mics which are pro or semi pro in quality and generally are robust, good quality and excellent bang for your buck mics. One issue lapel mics have, is owing to their small size they are usually omnidirectional and as such pick up everything. So the noisiest thing tends to win, also this can lead to the compressor in your recording device 'pumping' which is the sort of thing you used to hear a lot with Radio 1 Djs on medium wave. So a couple of things that in general might help your recording are Ensure you are recording in manual mode if available. You need to set this for the loudest sound obviously, but it you under record slightly, you will probably be better able to lift the levels in post, than to reduce the distorted and 'pumping' sound of an over recorder signal. You can't undo distortion, or over compression really. The second thing is mic placement. One place that is often used, especially if you are using the sun shade and it's a little far away, is the seat belt. It is a faff but you clip the mic high up near to your chin area, clipping the cable around the back of the belt using the underside of the mic clip to hold it in place (like the newsreaders if you look at their mics) and then apply a bit of gaffa tape on the underside to stop cable movement, which can cause microphonic handling noise sometimes. Just remember to unclip the mic before you release the retracting belt (if your 2CV has that style)

Originally we went to 2 registrations a year to help the car trade. They complained of a glut once a year, when the new reg came in, so having two bites at the cherry was considered a better option.

Arguably the fastest track car in it's class still, even the Alfa isn't as quick on some circuits. Does eat rear tyres. I'm hardly touching mine as it needs new rears after not a lot of miles, but that's as it should be really, or it would have been sensible to buy a 320/330 4x4

If that had happened in February I would now be driving a new CP M4, no question. The next version will be a lot quicker for sure, but the handling will be far easier to tame and in a way that's not necessarily what enthusiasts want. The pre-reg deals are becoming even stronger too. Never seen deals like them to be honest, at least not for an M car. A C63S would be nice though

So I went and bought a Jaaaag
Well the last of the deals on the M4 seem to be in the air, as production has stopped and they are really strong at the moment. If I wasn't in the financial pickle I find myself in, I would definitely consider this deal. Perfect spec for this car too imho (just make sure you go for the 19" wheels). TRL is well known to BMW forum users as a cheap source of new M based and similar cars https://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=129108

Is that a recent picture with the F40 in the background the one from the shoot involving his crash?

I think it's a BMW thing? Although he did once disparage Audi owners as having bought an expensive car and that if we put badge snobbery aside we would all be driving Hyundais and Kias. Obviously I don't have a problem with that as I also drive a Hyundai

Now I see a pattern with your posting in the M4 thread. You sound very angry

Well it is a thread about M4s in a general car related section. There are threads for those with a willy to wave I am sure. This might be what you are looking for, although it includes M3s as well https://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/forums/f80-m3-saloon-f82-m4-coupe-f83-m4-convertible-2014-present.74/ Btw this is your picture is it not? 100+ ****** (124mph) or did you not mean speed and rather you meant BHP like the 190 in your sig?

With the CS, it wasn't the marginal gains in straight line speed, which as we know is utterly pointless really, it was more about the handling. More carbon fibre (bonnet etc) made it a little lighter and there was a slight power hike, but the best stuff was reprogramming the traction control and rear diff, as well as gearbox and suspension reprogramming. Door cards were super light so you had to take a downgrade in audio in the M4 CS(but not the M3 CS which had a shorter and hence stiffer door card). The exhaust was subtly different too, although not quite as light as my BMW MPE zorst. Very nice staggered forged wheels too, with cup 2 tyres. Less of a beast than the regular models but still a drivers' car and ultimately a little quicker if anyone's timing. The suspension was based on the CP cars, but as the standard car had the CP dampers as well (2017 onwards) it wasn't such big news If I just wanted a power hike I'd get a stage 1 ecu tune with somebody like Litchfield and get around 520bhp and 510lb/ft. But the standard cars normally show plus 20-30 bhp when on the rollers anyway. BMW go to great length to ensure that this engines power figures can be replicated not only at sea level on a cool day, but at altitude on a hot day. Hence, in normal driving (especially in the UK) the engine typically and noticeably over delivers anyway. If I had the money and wasn't worried about buggering up the warranty and losing the car, it's on a PCP (obviously no mods as cars on finance do not belong to you), I'd look to the brakes, diff reprogram (CS or GTS spec) some mods to suspension and probably a traction reprogram from the CCS or GTS, oh and you might as well have the more 'exciting' exhaust sound options from those cars too (you can turn them off if you want to stay friends with your neighbours and I have a BMS OBD controller anyway). But I like my car just the way it is and am happy not to modify any more than the MPE. I might try MPS4S on the rears next, as they get good reports for grip and ride, even though the sidewall is apparently a tad softer (doubt I will notice) and possibly last a little longer than the ones I currently have I should drive it more for economy...oh wait, I bought an M4, sod that. You only live once

There is just something about his delivery that turns me off. I can't stand the bloke. I think it's that he talks in such an authoritative manner, which is clearly beyond his ability and knowledge and his 'enjoyment' is so forced.

That not so good a deal. Nearly 5k miles, standard M4 in almost poverty spec and not a vert. They have stopped making new M4s now and a few of the dealer groups have pre-registered a lot of them for sale at reduced prices. Some cracking deals if you want a fast coupe that still needs more a little driver input to progress quickly down the road and without parking up next to Paddy McGinnis and Richard Hammond in a nice bit of privet. There are less and less cars like this these days and it looks like the next M3/M4 (G80 series) will be a little easier to drive. If my finances weren't in the state they are I would have seriously considered grabbing on while I could (although I really wanted a delivery mileage CS version 😞 ). Having said that the final versions have less torque low down than mine, as BMW improved traction by reducing it in lower gears, as I think one or two people may have commented on the tyre shredding getaways on even a medium throttle Speaking of which I have an advisory on my rear tyres ....bugger
-
So I went and bought a Jaaaag
I was a little offended! To be fair to them, they dropped the price slightly for me when I pleaded hard-up and then told me I had worn the rear tyres out (still got around 3.5mm on them) which offset the price drop and then some. Might just avoid doing doughnuts for a while (obviously not jammie ones, or custard ones, or chocolate ones or...)
