  1. Im a home care worker, so it literally stays in town. Yes stop start work never boosts fuel economy and for that id be happy to take a little pinch on MPG, say low to mid 40's, not mid 30's. Yes a just for work car and once in a blue moon its the dog transport to partners house which is 25miles away. Once it gets out of town its fine, last week for example it did half and half, town and 60mph roads and it returned 39mpg so if i was to do long runs all day it would return what it states for urban. I think the claimed combined cycle is 60 odd Im not sure what to include in letter other then stating what kind of driving the car does and what MPG it's achieving. I think they will blame what the dealership are blaming, my driving style. Yes this i can fully understand but it not revved to wrong side of counter and its driven at town speeds so theres not even an opportunity for me to kick its teeth in
  2. Well its logical isnt it? Surly no one ever thought that bigger wheels and tyres increased MPG? The more contact with the road the more force required to push it along. Tbh most wheel and tyre sizes are far too big nowadays, theres no way in hell my vRS needed the 18's but to keep up with modern look and the appearance of the car they opted for them, it handled adequately fine on its 16 steel wheels. Only when grip is number 1 target do big feet make more sense. Like mentioned the tyre and tred make the difference i think, im sure at some point you will of come across an off roader with the big chunky tyres that make a hell of a racket and with it not being a smooth contact they have a much more rolling resistant
  3. I think i resemble my car, well the Octavia at least. Cheap, fun and a dark horse
  4. As some know i no longer own a Skoda and most of questions know relate to Hyundai but i guess this is a generic question I know official claimed MPG's are never realistic but im having real issues with my i10's consumption. Its claimed it will do 50MPG on a Urban cycle, well nowadays that is all my car does but its returning 35-38MPG :( Ive been to the dealership and expressed my problem, they did a half hearted MPG road test and gave the car a diagnostics but all came back ok. Ive been advised to keep my fuel receipts and calculate exactly what its turning, true enough 35mpg, 37.8mpg and 36.2mpg (most recent) Im still in talks with my dealership but i think they are reluctant to help as there is nothing wrong with the car, which is fair enough. Would a letter to Hyundai help at all? Yes the claimed MPG's are 99% utter rubbish but you can always get some where close to it. Even my vRS did 45mpg round town and my current Clio 172Cup does 33mpg. Im at my wits end with it, i bought it purely for work and to be cheap to run which you'd be under the impression that it is, im getting to the point of chopping it in for something else but im going to loose money..
  5. your in the same shoes as my partner, when i want something doing, i.e coilovers on the Octavia it was his job, with a lot of shouting and swearing later it was done. This is one of main reasons i bought the i10, new car, no worries! But now im taking up the slack and bought a 10 year old Clio 172
  6. Thanks that makes more sense Im going with Admiral (multi car) as they have offered a very good price but they only asked for 3 years and others asked for 5 i just there was one rule for all. My claim is one month from coming off (for 3 years) so ill just wait for another month, uninsure and insure once its come off. Its my second car so no real need for it aTM
  7. I thought there was a general rule of thumb, 3 year to declare for claims and 5 years for points
  8. No i understand that completely but on an insurance comparison site they ask in the past 5 years but the insurance company on the phone only ask for 3 years. I cant compared prices if the information is wrong, if it only valid for 3 years then i don't have to declare it for 5
  9. Hi All Its insurance renewal time, in October 2010 i had a minor claim on my insurance, just doing a few insurance quotes and it asking 'in the past 5 years have you had any claims?' Im sure it was after 3 years your didt have to declare them? I know its still 5 years for points and fines ect Can someone clear this up for me
  10. I wish i could ignore MPG but my life pretty much revolves around it, with me covering about 25,000 miles a year it matters. All the premium fuels are just a fad if you ask me but i do think there is variation in different brands of fuel, my cars always go further on Shell, from my experience Tesco is the worst
  11. Just bought myself a new laptop boasting Windows 8. Printers are becoming cheap enough now and ive wanted one for long enough but many ive looked at dont support Windows 8. Can download a driver from somewhere? Theres one on sale atm HP 1000 which is as basic as they come but its all im after, HP website offer a driver, will solve my problem? On the box it supports from windows 7, Vista and XP
  12. Having just bought a new laptop tonight im going to advertise my old one for sale. Its not at this present moment available as i need to remove all my stuff on it and reformat it but this will not take long. It has the flamingo pink lid, generally good overall condition but after a few years of use its not perfect, has a burn mark on space bar about 3mm in length (does not affect the use). Im having a bit of bother with J key, i think i just needs a good clean out tbh. The track pad works ok but has lost of bit of touch but ive still used it fine. Comes with charger and all relevant disc's. Can pick up is local or delivery with fuel money or can send by courier. £150 ono Will upload pictures once im back home and ive stopped fussing over my new laptop
  13. Hey! My i10 is an object of pure desire :/ Haha ok maybe it would be safe in most places.. But i dont think its completely dependant on what car you have, im sure how a thief's head works but i presume aslong as it has 4 wheels on the ground im sure they'll try.
  14. I think i have a healthy rating now but only because i actually have a fair bit of credit, over draft, phone contract, small amount credit card, very account and a few house hold bills but other then the mess around with 3 ive never missed a payment and all (credit) have been paid off, used credit and once again paid off.
  15. Yeah half way there but like i said i thought they gave them away, i know some folk out of a job who have Audi's and Bm's
  16. With my co-worker we did do a credit check and it was 500 odd which i thought was the weird thing, not great but terrible either. Ive always been under the impression they thrown money at people which yes is sad but the buyer should hold the responsibility
  17. Up til i got my i10 i was not on board with finance on a car and only now see the point in it when it involves under 10k but anyways.. A new work colleague is having trouble getting fiance so i offered to help her out by talking to the salesman who dealt with me, she has not a clue when it comes to car buying so offered to set her right and do it the correct way. Got a phone call back saying no sorry she has been declined, due to various reasons all of which are understandable, we were going on a whim. Another friend went for finance on one of cheapest new cars going, the Mii, got declined. Same story from a friend of a friend, no credit flaws but yet no acceptance. When i first went for my finance i worried as my rating is poor due to a phone contract that went sour with 3 and bad credit from a previous house but i got through no questions asked. As far as i was aware they threw new car's at people, its normally a win win situation for the finance company so i wondered what has happened?
