  1. Anyone with a VCDS close to the Manchester / Oldham areas? I have the bulb out warning error pop up on the dash after turning the headlights on. All bulbs are working and the headlight bulbs have been replaced but the error still pops up. I would want the bulb out warning to be disabled if possible. Skoda Fabia MK2 VRS.
  2. Just an update guys. The issue has now gone. A couple of days before the issue (violent misfire) I added some engine oil to the car, I misread the dipstick and foolishly added more when it wasn't needed, about half a litre. I never thought that that this would cause such an issue, as I still had a slight misfire and rough idle before adding the extra engine oil (that started a few weeks before). Anyway, yesterday I checked the dipstick and it was showing above the max line, so I siphoned some oil out with a syringe and tube through the dipstick hole. I also removed and cleaned the map sensor at the back of the engine behind the inlet pipe. Car now runs better than before and the slight dsg jerkiness I had before has also gone, dsg changes have gone really smooth now. I reset the DTC codes with a scanner and the EML light hasn't been back. I've driven around 30 miles in the last 2 days. Not sure what fixed it but it seems to be sorted now, the car feels different. Thanks all
  3. Forgot to add - yes, it has the centre box delete done.
  4. Yeah, that's what I was told. He told me that he was going to get it remapped sometime in the future but plans changed and decided to sell it. It did seem like a boyracers car, but it was in good condition and had no knocks or rattles coming from it. The drive was smooth. I bought it around 15 months ago and got it serviced in the first month of ownership, I then had it serviced again about 3 months ago. It has been running perfectly fine (smooth engine, DSG etc) until a few weeks ago.
  5. That's good to know. Not much else is tweaked, it doesn't have a map (according to previous owner). Not sure if relevant, but in addition, it has uprated engine mounts, dog bone mount and gearbox mount, has been lowered and has adjustable drop links, and resonator delete. All done by previous owner.
  6. Ah right, you learn something new everyday. Thanks, will give the Tesco momentum a try next. The stuttering / rough idle was really bad today, to the point where I didn't want to drive the car. It really needs looking at.
  7. Since I've had the car I have only ever used Shell V power 99 or Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99 petrol. I filled up with standard shell 95 once only as I couldn't find the premium fuel anywhere and the car didn't run smooth.
  8. Thanks all for the replies. Yeah, I had the car serviced around 3 months ago with new NGK iridium (SIZFR6B8EG) spark plugs, oil, oil filter and air filter. These are the exact same parts that I bought and had fitted in the last service I had done around a year ago, except for the spark plugs as they were already in there before I bought the car, but they were the same NGK iridium ones. The shuddering issue only started around a month ago, about a week after I got the brake discs / pads changed. The car previously ran perfectly fine for a year with no issues whatsoever. The car does have an RTMG dump valve and R8 coil packs, all done by previous owner.
  9. @Crasher Yeah the rev needle jumps close to 0 and then back up again, yesterday it was so bad that I thought that the engine was going to stall at the traffic lights. It doesn't always do it, some days it's minor and on some days it's really bad with the stutter whilst driving (light throttle), and the rough idle. Today the EML light came up on the dash and the DTC scanner showed code P0106.
  10. @thomasaspin Thanks mate, I've had the same plugs in the car before I replaced them and the car ran perfectly for a year. I appreciate that, I'll PM you.
  11. The engine management light popped up this morning when I first started the car. I read the codes with a standard scanner and it showed code p0106. Map circuit?
  12. Thanks. Can you recommend anyone that knows what they're doing to diagnose this, in the Oldham / Manchester area? The spark plugs that were replaced were NGK laser iridium SIZFR6B8EG (replaced with the same).
  13. Hello, I was wondering if someone can help with this issue I have with the car. My car has started to intermittently shudder / misfire when driving after the car has warmed up. It's only noticeable when I try maintaining speed, i.e driving at a steady speed of 30mph or 70mph on the motorway. When stopped at traffic lights the Rev needle keeps jumping up and down after every couple of seconds to the point where it feels like the car is about to stall. The car isn't throwing up any codes and there's no EML light on the dash. It was quite bad today (rough idle), and on some days it doesn't happen and drives fine with no shudder or rough idle. I had it fully serviced around 3 months ago and had new NGK iridium spark plugs, oil / filter, air filters fitted. The year before that I had a new fuel filter fitted when serviced. My car's a Fabia VRS DSG 1.4 Petrol MK2 2014. Any ideas on what it could be? Thanks
  14. Hi guys, Just an update: I've got the flash working now, it was the stalk. On the way to work I was fiddling about with the stalk and gave it a good pull with force which made the connection and the flash worked from both headlights and blue high beam symbol on dash appeared. Then it was working intermittently on a normal pull of the stalk, so I gave it a few more hard pulls and now it's working fine on normal pull, the flash works as normal. Something must have crawled in between the contacts. Thanks for all your help.
  15. Thanks for finding that for me mate, it really helps. I'll see if I can get under the dash and have a good look on my next few days off. I don't really get much daylight hours to work on it when working nights and then having to sleep in the day.
  16. @Breezy_PeteThank you, I appreciate the help.
  17. @Breezy_Pete Thanks, I came across this thread earlier but it was a bit too technical for me lol. I think I'm going to buy a used stalk from eBay and see if replacing it solves the issue (fingers crossed). They're going for around £40. From what I've read it's not too difficult to remove the steering wheel (easier said than done). Unclip the airbag from behind both sides of the wheel, unplug the connectors, and then undo the bolt for the steering and pull it off. Making sure to disconnect the negative connection on the battery first.
  18. @nta16Thanks, I'll update it with this information now.
  19. In that case I'd check the wires in the door bellows first as advised by the above poster. My mirror switch is also not working, but it does illuminate when the headlights turn on, which makes me think it's the switch that's faulty in my case. And mine seems to be stuck on the heat setting, as the condensation on the mirrors quickly disappears when I turn the car on.
  20. @tootsorry, yes it's the MK2 vrs 2014 model. I didn't know that there were 2 versions of this car until a poster above mentioned that the other version has a different headlight setup.
  21. Ok so the contact cleaner didn't work, I gave it a spray through a straw at the base of the indicator stalk. I remember before it completely stopped working yesterday, it was intermittent, sometimes I'd pull the stalk and the flash would work ( from both headlights) and then it would work but the light only flashed from the left headlight and there was no light coming from the right headlight. But the blue main beam symbol on the dash would appear when pulling the stalk whether the headlights lit up or not. Now there's nothing, no blue high beam symbol on the dash and no click from the relay. Is it possible that it's the relay, I have located the relays under the dash behind the fuse box, and they don't seem too difficult to get to. They all have different coloured connectors.
  22. @varooomThanks for that, appreciate it. I now think that it might be the stalk because when the flash stopped working yesterday, the blue main beam symbol did appear on the dash when pulling on the stalk, But now when I pull on the stalk to 'flash' the blue main beam symbol doesn't appear on the dash anymore. So now it seems to me that the stalk isn't giving any signal anymore when pulled. Someone mentioned on another thread that they took the top steering cowl off and sprayed some contact cleaner onto the stalk contacts.. I'll give that a try and see how it goes first.
  23. Sorry, I should have made that clear. I have the one where there's one bulb (H7) for both dipped and main beam. There's a shutter that moves up when I switch to main beam and partially covers the bulb when I switch back to dipped beam. They are projector headlights
  24. Thanks for the reply. It's actually the same bulb (h7) for dipped and main beam which is controlled by a shutter. And the main beam works fine when the stalk is pushed away from me but it doesn't work when the stalk is pulled towards me for 'flashing'.
  25. Does the switch light up / illuminate when you turn on the headlights? That could indicate if the wires in the door are faulty or not.
