  1. Found a 2.0 estate on Fleabay - I was just impressed at the time at such a big lump in a small hole. It was about that time when I came back off a training course and found that the apprentice had taken the head off a 1.4mpi - looking in the book at the time It said that the head must be replaced and not machined - How wrong were they. I am convinced you could take a centimeter off those heads (maybe a slight exaggeration but I did do an estelle ONCE that had been skimmed 7 times previously so you live and learn or the time that the service receptionist booked in a Felicia pick up for a time chain- he handed me the parts for the job - No sump gasket - No tensioners how surprised was I when I stripped it down finding it was interference fit. Ahh the good old days !
  2. DPF is really not the way forward, its like putting 4 thick socks up you exhaust which you cannot get out, I know that cutting emissions is a manufactures priority but how much further can we go before reliability is compromised even further, we have already seen how crap some ideas are that hit production and the cost of repairs that are massive for the potential owner, I am of the firm opinion if its not broke don't fix it (but maybe change it if its a wearing part just in case) When I was the Service Manager / Warranty clerk for VW and Skoda I was amazed at the type of parts that would continually fail without a recall or tech note, It must cost the manufactures millions each year but as VAG reclaim this cost from the suppliers to which there are thousands as suppose it does not matter, I do love my level 3 !
  3. Also when you remove the trim at the rear of the hand brake you will see both cables are hooked into the locking bar and the adjustment nut and bar are in the centre. Ensure that the bar lock the cables is straight and not pulled over to the left or too the right when the hand brake is applied, if it is this will tell you that the handbrake lever on the brake shoe is seized,
  4. Its not Yellow its black If you can wait until the weekend whilst I give it some thought as the Kayak lands on Saturday so I can see how big it is against the car
  5. I remember when working at the dealers we had a Fabia 2.0 petrol delivered. It had that big whacky lump from the Octavia. It went well despite the weight. Havent seen one since ! Anyone one here got one?
  6. Thanks. for the replies The Fabia is a beast - I tend to do loads of preventive maintenance to her as well as regular servicing so I suppose you are right to stick with what you know. SE spec is a bit poor, I love stuff like the Armrest Would love to get Monte wheels though and Sat Nav to finish it off
  7. Posting on here brings back memories of working at Slaters Skoda when Skoda came under the control a VAG, How things changed in such a short space of time.

  8. Trip to the dealer then for the part number, thanks I don't know how big the Kayak is its coming from Gloucester on April 05th - I was hammered when I bought it Whoops !!!
  9. Being ex motor trade with 20 years experience I know the importance of getting a garage you can trust. I still service my own - The systems are so basic that changing all the filers and oil takes an hour with the minimum of tools. So it only costs you the parts - Genuine service kits are cheap on the interwebs so its save save ! I always say if you have never done something before always look at youtube there are videos for most things including servicing cars - my mate believe or not taught himself to sail from youtube and now he enters competitions
  10. Its the 1.4TDI 3 cylinder beast Costs are non existent as I service it myself - just don't know if its suitable for a kayak carrying roof rack ? The trouble we cause ourselves !!!!!! Would love a set of Monte Carlo Alloys for it though
  11. I am at a crossroads My 57 plate level 3 TDI has now done 48,000. I have serviced it every 6000 miles and it is bullet proof but the question is shall I say goodbye. I originally fancied a Rapid SE1.6 TDI but got drunk the other week and bought an ocean kayak so my thinking has turned towards a Fabia estate SE 1.6 TDI which will be easy to mount the kayak. Can anyone tell me about the 1.6tdi engine as I have been unable to find a videos of the engine on youtube (manufacturers training videos) I had found a bargain at Simpsons but it got sold yesterday 62 reg 13236 miles £8500 = gutted
  12. Good quiz. I got 80% thanks that killed five minutes
  13. Has anyone tried changing these on the driveway yet. Modified bushes seem to be cheap but are there any adjustments required afterwards to the tracking etc.
  14. Hello All had a bit of a shock on Saturday night car was showing just under quarter of a tank of fuel. Parked up for a couple of hours and came back, started up the fuel refill light came on and the fuel gauge was on empty. thought that the fuel line had been cut (it wasnt) put in £25 quid and its done it again? any ideas as there are no leaks. I dont work in the garage anymore. its a 57 plate with 28K on the clock. going to do 3000 mile oil change intervals with a filter every 3rd change. Cambelt is due in January having never done one on a PD 3 cylinder any one with any advice as I have heard that you also have to do the water pump cheers Mag
