  1. It is the problem that they are somewhere near the stone age.
  2. It is one of the most useful options in your car
  3. Does my driving look that bad? I'll abstain anyway. And by the way, those guys really risk their lives. Here is a fresh bit of news.
  4. Either way I can record more idiots in 15 seconds than you - in 15 minutes Watch the roadside:
  5. Not only do limited slip differentials cost more, they also hamper handling on road. EDL is not a complete substitute for a mechanical differential lock of course, but it does its job.
  6. When I collected my 4x4 Yeti from the dealer's 3 years ago I didn't even think about setting off on factory-fitted summer tyres. Mainly because of long stopping distance and ABS, which makes it worse still. Winter tyres make a huge difference. 4x4 helps in snow too, but not as much as proper rubber. As to ABS operation, I often release brake pedal when the ABS kicks in while driving on compacted snow or ice, then push it again, but weaker, so as not to make it kick in another time. This usually allows for more efficient braking. I know that it goes against the advice for earlier ABS systems, but modern ones should be fine with that.
  7. Does that all mean that Skoda acknowledged that there is an inherent problem with tensioner?
  8. One thing to note: that particular piece of advice was about the 1.4TSI engine. They state that its tensioner (of initial revision I suppose) does not even have a ratchet. They advised not to leave car in gear as a precaution to exclude the possibility of retraction of the tensioner due to counterclockwise engine rotation.
  9. It is good to do so, but only if you don't own an engine which can fail because of that
  10. BlackSys CF-100 GPS http://www.blacksys.co.kr/eng/product/product.php?id=8 has positive reviews. I haven't tried it myself though.
  11. That's a google translation obviously. The "simple rule" is not to leave the car parked in gear.
  12. There is an article in Autobild magazine brought up in the post on page 17 which mentions problems with chains and tensioners in the 1.2 and 1.4 TSI engines. But those are different engines with their own parts which have little in common with the EA888 design being discussed here.
  13. Probably. The 963F600E092781FE691206EB901E818A350000 coding should have been accepted otherwise. Mine was produced at the end of 2011 but it is a 2012 MY one.
  14. I did it manually, like it is quoted in the post #9 (but using the long coding helper instead of copying/pasting/etc). In other words, you need to change the most significant bit in the byte 6 and the least significant bit in the byte 14 - set both to 1. P.S. My current coding is what Erik suggested in the post #10.
  15. http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/12/7530325/chevrolet-volt-2016-hybrid-electric-car-50-miles Is it still a viable technology? Or will the recent advances in batteries make cars like the Tesla S unchallenged winners?
  16. That's the Superb liftback I think.
  17. Erik, I've tested you mod at last. It works like a charm! Normally everything - ABS, ASR and ESP, is enabled. Short press on the "ASR-off" button disables ASR, but not ESP. Press it again and everything turns back on again. Long press (about 5 seconds; I tried 3 and that was not enough) on the "ASR-off" button disables both ASR and ESP. But, I must say, even with ESP disabled the Yeti feels stable and predictable. I had to wait for today's snowfall to test it properly and make sure that ESP really turns off after a long press (I also had a suspicion that the mod permanently disables ASR, but it turned out it doesn't). It was great fun!
  18. -21℃ this morning, and they are forecasting another thaw by the weekend.
  19. Alright, I'll give it a go this or next week. I don't have a maxidot display unfortunately, but I hope I'll be able to see if ESP turns off.
  20. Just fed my current coding to the script and got this: 91 3F 40 0E 09 22 01 FA 89 0D 02 EA 90 22 80 49 35 08 00 -- Original Coding 91 3F 40 0E 09 22 80 FA 89 0D 02 EA 90 22 01 49 35 08 00 -- New Coding which seems odd given that: this is from my VCDS diagnostics log: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Address 03: ABS Brakes (J104) Labels: 1K0-907-379-60EC1F.clb Part No SW: 1K0 907 379 BJ HW: 1K0 907 379 BJ Component: ESP MK60EC1 H31 0121 Revision: 00H31001 Coding: 913F400E092201FA890D02EA90228049350800 Shop #: WSC 33361 790 00999 VCID: 7BFFF519FA67F2C6CE5-802E No fault code found.
