  1. Pretty nasty, as you may guess Yes, this is always a consideration, of course.
  2. Yes, of course, maybe it makes sense from the military standpoint. I don't see why they need it from the political standpoint.
  3. A big filling station? For now they've managed to show that while the world economy grows by 3.3%, Russian economy declines by 4%.
  4. So they are projecting military influence in the Mediterranean in order to be able to project military influence into the Mediterranean. They like to project military influence. That (kind of) explains it It seems to me that most Putin's moves are much less rational than one can expect. Maybe he just loves Assad.
  5. To be honest, I have no idea why they need a base in Syria at all. They had a base with three sailors guarding it and were in preparation to evacuate those three, but suddenly changed their mind and now there are thousands of soldiers there.
  6. Do you mean this piece of news? I've missed it indeed. http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/10/02/us-ukraine-crisis-russia-idUSKCN0RW0UL20151002
  7. At least it seems Putin has left Ukraine alone for now. No one knows what his strategy is. Many doubt that he is able to strategically plan at all. At any rate, it is obvious he is trying to save his friend's Assad a*se, among other things.
  8. I think that "floor mats" story was made up to distract attention. The real culprit was ECU firmware as this article suggests: http://www.edn.com/design/automotive/4423428/Toyota-s-killer-firmware--Bad-design-and-its-consequences
  9. Reminded me of this overtake three years ago: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/260737-the-briskoda-drive-recorder-video-footage-thread/?p=3127572 I don't come across such loonies too often I must say.
  10. For me it is VAG's attitude towards the public, and their customers in particular, that matters most, not the actual emission figures. VAG is becoming notorious for not acknowledging evident problems and behaving in a way that looks fraudulent.
  11. The problem is that d on that page denotes distance travelled in the ground, not how high the ball bounced back. In the context of this topic it would be roughly equal to the depth of the resulting dent
  12. There is dashcam footage of a congestion on that stretch of the road. Looks like very unlucky circumstances...
  13. There were cases, about a decade ago, where the paint on Corollas fell off after usual pressure washing. But otherwise I quite agree. Water-based paints have been around for years and mostly trouble-free. My previous car was painted with a water-based paint and I didn't have any problems with it (it is now 9 years old and I know it is still fine).
  14. Luckily, the article doesn't mention central lock/alarm. And immobilizers are not that important. After all, a true car thief carries an ECU with them, which renders immobilizer useless.
  15. It might be less of a problem in Australia
  16. At one of two VAG's plants in Russia. I don't know the exact place as it was made at the time when VAG was moving production from one plant to the other. It was made in Nizhny Novgorod according to documents, but the body could have been made in Kaluga.
  17. At least my Yeti has been welded and sprayed not in the Czech Republic, where Skodas for the UK market are made. Yet it had the same issue with paint bubbling.
  18. But what about this: Did they try to point out that this is not the same as the 12 year anti-corrosion warranty which essentially is just ?
  19. Usually the wiring looks like this: http://www.resistorguide.com/applications/blower-resistor/
  20. Customers paying to advertise manufactures. Isn't it ridiculous? I also found traces of the white worm recently... :(
  21. There are several modifications of brake mechanisms even for 1.2 TSI so it is impossible to tell exactly what pads you need. Maybe this post will help: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/296761-filter-part-numbers/?p=3530133
