the truth about electric cars
This morning again on Radio 5 Live @ 'Wake Up to money', talking to Experts and Money Investment experts they repeat 'Electric Vehicles are very Expensive'. Well Very Expensive ones are Very Expensive and less expensive ones are less so. It is true they are a big expenditure, but not so much for the Businesses that are buying Very Expensive Vehicles or Leasing them anyway and can maybe run these Very Expensive vehicles more cheaply. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001yprz Last week the Money Expert that bought a Used Petrol MINI and said it might be 5 years before there were ones with double the range must have not been buying the used MINI at a MINI Showroom where they are taking orders on New MINI electrics. The bright Yellow ones are hard to miss. (Lovely wheels). The Cooper S Electrics are difficult to spot as what is electric and what is Petrol and the 'John Cooper Work' TRIM ones are just daft looking. ................ Today the 'Top sales guy' when i asked 'Is this just a JCW Trim (plastic fantastic) on the Big Battery More Powerful car' but with no Performance Gains over a Big Battery More Powerful dressed plainly? dithered and blustered and failed to say yes. Like we were playing the Yes No politician game and he had practiced.

Oil and filter change
So the 1.0 TSI with VW508 00 / 509 00 0w20 FS IV oil can be on variable flexible servicing and 18,000-20,000 mile Oil & Filter service intervals. 24 months. Or every 4 1/2 months in your case. I would ask the Service Manager where ever you had the service done just what whoever changed it to 3,200 is playing at and where they came up with the guff you were told. ?? Did they actually use Long Life oil, so the VW508 00 /509 00. or even VW504 00 / 507 00, 5w 30 FS III or maybe 0w 30 FS III or something else? Like VW502 00 Not Long Life Oil.

the truth about electric cars
^^^ That talks about England. But point taken, the Westminster Government does control what the devolved governments have in the way of money to spend and for local authorities to get. While Maintenance spending is cut, claims against councils and the appointed companies that maintain roads are big and expensive.

Oil and filter change
Welcome to the forum. I doubt the Technician / Fitter can show were it is what Skoda recommend to set such a low Service Interval. The Garage / Technician should ( can) have set the Service Indicator @ 9,400 miles / 372 days. What an odd thing to do. Then it is annual. If that is only 3,200 miles covered in the year and a week then so be it. Strange to set it by what was done up to the service, or at less miles than a Fixed Service regime.

the truth about electric cars
Re the repeating thing. I am watching 'Fifth Gear Recharged', i do get feed up of VBH and the other telling people that if you fast charge it takes such and such time from 20-80%. People suck it in and might not understand they might be talking with a 100 kW or 100kW plus charger. Seldom are the vehicles they are discussing going to be doing anything like that on a 50 kW DC Charger.

the truth about electric cars
@Graham Butcher Do you mean Smaller Battery capacity rather than Low Power? I discussed EV,s on Orkney and not the battery size or power, it was you that talked about the short journeys. They have rather good PS/BHP/kW / Nm torque. PS. This morning with 100% i was 1.5 miles going to Tesco & was getting 6.7 miles to the kWh. Came back the 2 mile route and got 4.5 miles a kWh. Back home with 100% showing. I will plug in and see if really i defied science. EDIT. PPS. No i never, car was showing 100%. Plugged in to charge and it is at 99%. 30 mins on 3 pin cable, 1.3 kWh so 25 pence.

Karoq 1.6 TDI DSG Cam belt interval changed to 140K Miles ??
It would have to be referring to 1.6 TDI,s if the person being told by someone that knows anything that it is 140,000 miles because the TPI is 180,000 miles.

Combi 2.0TSI L&K Webasto(engine/interior heating)
Those with the current Suberb iV,s (PHEV,s) will be able to say how things are. The Interior can be pre heated. (Can that happen even when not on a charger?) Maybe Pre-heating an engine which might not be required to even be running when moving off has been deemed unnecessary.

the truth about electric cars
Scottish Government Recommendations to Local Authorities are that at least 20% of Licensed Taxis are wheel chair Accessible. It was said that the LEZ in Glasgow would mean 400 less Disabled Access Taxis would be available as they did not comply and the owners could not afford to convert them to comply. Anyway, there are plenty Taxis in Cities in Scotland that are Wheel Chair use suitable, and that includes in Glasgow. Maybe more will be EV,s like in Dundee eventually.

Problem with gear box auto
OK. Skoda call it a S-A, Semi Automatic, but same thing. So a DQ200 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG. It needs diagnosed by someone that knows what they are doing, and repaired by the same. So with all the gear and more than ideas. All the best with it. Hopefully it is the simplest of fixes, but until it is known where the leak is and why leaking anyone is just guessing what is required or the cost.

Problem with gear box auto
Welcome. Many have had the same problem. ? How many miles on the car & how long have you had it? It is a DQ200 DSG 7 spped twin dry clutch DSG. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/425419-dsg-gearbox tToo late now if it never got that done. You just do not want to pay more than is necessary to get yours fixed. As to a new DSG required. Unlikely if it is a leak and not a leak because something hit the box and cracked it. (You might need parts other than just sorting the MCU if clutches worn etc. Have someone else look at it that knows about these gearboxes, (Were they an Autobox Specialist that did?) what they need to know is about DQ200,s, & about Skoda Service Campaign '34H5' on DQ200,s from 2023-2015 and the Software Update. Preventative because of Pressure Issues, Pressure Actuator, leaks, cracks etc. There are repair kits if that is the issue. Check with a Dealership or Skoda UK if the Service Campaign was required and done since 2017. So where the leak is from matters, is it the MCU and not actually the Oil in the Gearbox leaking but from the ECU. There is a Pinned thread on the DSG,s at the top of the Skoda Mk2 Section. I will ask a Mod to move your thread there.

Servicing - Definitive Answers
The chart is there showing what they recommend then for a 1.0 TSI and if yours is 2019 on it shows what they say about using VW504 instead of VW508. If you did use VW504, or if i did i would use 0w 30 FS III. Go Castrol Edge if you want. It is not what UK main dealers might use these days. They might use Quantum which comes from Fuchs.

the truth about electric cars
@Graham Butcher I know what you mean. & there are Hybrid TAXI,s / Black cab style that are wheel chair accessable. & Mini Bus style, and ones used by Care Homes / Disabled Centres & by Car Clubs etc Ambulance Transport. Location location location when it comes to rules. There are luxury ones used commonly. VIP transport, Airport Transport. These look like a great concept for wheel chair user / drivers for their use or family / passenger use. With EV,s the world is your oyster once the Platform is there to build the vehicles on.

Servicing - Definitive Answers
That is not backward compatible. If you do not say what engine or year your car is then giving answers is not so easy. Rapid. Pre 2018 you are not wanting VW508 00 / 509 00, & not with a 1.2 TSI, or a 1.0TSI pre GPF. Petrol Kamiq very likely is VW508 00 / 509 00. And as for Fixed Service they do not tell you. But it need not be long life oil. VW508 00 / 509 00 0w20 FS IV comes from many many oil producers other than Castrol, Quantum / Fuchs. Mobile. & approved by VW Group.

the truth about electric cars
@Graham Butcher The Minibus Taxis are all around, maybe not that you see though. The issue being Accessability for Wheel Chairs, but there are plenty choices now and EV,s. A plan is to maybe have all those that have held a driving licence and never been re-tested in 50 years to have to take a driving course and then a test and have them done in town traffic and in an EV so that it is about their road craft and observation.

Has the coolant specification changed for the 2021 Fabia 3 range?
Adding the correct Coolant to top up & be sure the Coolant has the correct strength / ration for Antifreeze Protection, & as a Summer Coolant & Rust Inhibitor is not an issue. It is adding just any old H2O that is an issue and introduces nasty stuff into your engines journals and coolant system. (So that opens the whole H2O / Tap / Bottled, hard or soft, minerals & the 'de-mineralized water' or 'distilled water' discussion.) Use the correct water....

the truth about electric cars
The BEV,s are being built around the world and it is getting to be less and less in the UK not more. They work very well for many Couriers, Private Hire / Taxis, and town / city cars and cars going further afield. What a song and dance there is from many that might never have even tried one and has no intention in the next 11 years of getting one. 'Just say no'. See your driving years out in whatever you damn well want. It might never happen, you might step out in front of a silent vehicle tomorrow. Or a V8 if you are a bit Mutt & Jeff and maybe the eyesight is going and your reactions.

Servicing - Definitive Answers
@MickA If a TSI you can use VW504 00 / 507 00 for Fixed servicing or Variable, so likely 5w 30 FS III or 0w 30 FS III. Or for Fixed VW502 00, 5w 40 FS or if you find any 0w 40 FS. If i TDI it is VW 504 00 / 507 for Fixed or Variable. VW507 00 being what is required.

the truth about electric cars
@lol-lol I charged yesterday at home. Off to see the New MINI Aceman and need all the range. Previous charging time at home was Monday & 3kWh showing on car 95 % 88 miles - 100 % 94 miles. 3 kWh 60 pence. Yesterday having done 13 miles since being at 100% coming off a 'Free charger' 84% 83 miles, to 100% 99 miles. 6 kWh, £1.35. Charging at home on a normal All Day / Night tariff so much different from a 'Offpeak' Special tariff home charging.
