  1. I had a bad attack of 'Dancing Windows' in my first Yeti some years ago, which resulted in open windows during overnight rain on two occasions. It coincided with several similar reported incidents with other Yetis, and I left a note for myself (on the PC, of course) of the solution, in case of future problem. (@Paul52, you might remember it, with the prompt, as we are of the same era.) This is from Speedsport's post here, in 2016: Ignition on (don't start the engine), Lower the offending window by pushing the switch down (the switch on the driver's door) and keep holding it down until the window's fully open. Then pull the switch up, and keep holding it up as the window rises and at the same time apply gentle pressure outwards on the glass near the top. Keep the switch up for a further 10 seconds after the window closes & a click should be heard. The window should now be reset. Since then, I've periodically gone through a quick 'maintenance' process: run all windows right down and back up again, right to the stop, on either the fob button or the centre console switch. Just as a reminder to the Window Elves who wind the hidden handles. Enjoy your Yetis while you can 🙂
  2. Hello Sandy.Rogers! You've been a stranger! Interesting to know that you still have the 2011 Yeti. My 2012 140 diesel used to run routinely at 110/120 deg with the big caravan on the hook. Only this re-assurance from me, I'm afraid - I'll leave the tech stuff to others. Best
  3. My ABS etc lights were coming and going - on for a couple of days, gone the next. The local indy were having it in for annual service and MOT, reported it cleared and double road-tested, but the lights were back on before I was off the forecourt. Repeated tests pointed to an iffy NSF sensor; a replacement cost under £50, with adequately reduced labour.

  5. .....Though weren't/aren't we 'original' UK16SBC members all on 215/60's? Welcome to @Urrell nonetheless!
  6. Thanks for the photographs - some great Scottish scenes 👍
  7. Just a mention for the Kleber Quadraxer. I quote from my post of Jan 2020: 'My first Yeti was a heavy 2ltr 240 DSG 4x4, with OEM Conti tyres (no choice) on the special-supply 16" Moon wheels. The Conti's were too soft and not really suitable for our local rural lanes (potholes, bad edges and loose stones) and they didn't like icy roads (we don't get much snow nowadays but heavy frost is common). At 20K miles the treads were near the limit and I was not sorry to have to replace them. I chose the Kleber Quadraxer as the best (for me) replacement at the time - all-season, Michelin parent, and fair price. These did 22K miles on the 2Ltr Yeti, including towing a big caravan, never failed me and still had 5-6mm tread. I transferred them to my current 1.2 petrol Yeti (no caravan now!). At 5 years old, and a total 40K miles (perhaps 60% on poor roads), they began to show some cracking at the shoulder, although there was still around 3-4mm tread all over. I replaced them with Quadraxer 2's only two or three weeks ago, so they are really too new to make fair comment on. The original Quads did everything asked of them, and I had no reason to chose anything else. However, these are certainly quieter than the Quad 1's and have already had to deal with heavy rain and floods. Perhaps we'll have some snow to play in this year ! ' FWIW
  8. Lots of views, no real support, I'm not in a position to be able to co-ordinate it myself, so not such a good idea.
  9. Good example, gumdrop; finding the right fuse was not straightforward, as I remember. The Google search tip is a good one, but seems to apply widely. Thanks for coming in, john999boy. Seems it's a bit premature to start thinking about technicalities....
  10. On logging in here, the top thread title displayed is Click Here For A List Of Useful Yeti Topics . It does exactly 'what it says on the tin' and very useful it is too, but..... The list was locked at fordfan's post of 29 October 2011. Sadly, he is no longer with us; his last recorded post was in March 2017 and his Honorary status is a fitting memorial. But I think he'd agree that a lot has happened over the last ten years. The Yeti has been facelifted - and discontinued. It recently seems to have more 'popular' appeal on the 'used' market than it did when still in production, though that could be in part a result of current economic conditions. The original levels of trim - S, SE, SEL and Elegance - were joined by others such as Monte Carlo, Outdoor and Drive. OEM options have come and gone, and aftermarket stuff too. So have special personal choices - e.g. flappy paddles and 16" wheels - that were perhaps appropriate at particular times. Some notable colours went (e.g. Tibetan Bronze, Petrol Blue) and others came (Forest, and several greys). Briskoda has gathered a wealth of information about the Yeti in all its guises - its strengths and weaknesses in a wide range of environments and based on the experience of hundreds of individual drivers. Most of this is outside the range of fordfan's topic, simply because that covered only the Yeti's first couple of years. It can only be uncovered by the forum Search facility (which isn't easy to use and ultimately means asking a question in a form that will find it) or by tapping members' collective memory. Although there's a small army of current owners here who have had one or more Yetis since those early days, the number is dwindling together with their available memories. And this is at a time when there is an influx of new members, who are buying 'Used' from the fleet of remaining Yetis that are piling on the years and miles. It might be helpful, while memory lasts, to put together another list of topics that have been discussed several times over the last ten years, with links suggested (not confined to the Yeti section). Just a few possibles: Roof racks and boxes Cycle carriers Internals such as dog cages 'Dancing windows' Door looms Replacing/updating lights ditto Audio/satnav units Any thoughts?

Thanks to all of you for your responses - I really didn't expect so many and such thought and detail. I should have know better! Sorry to be so long replying, but to answer a few points you raised.... Thoughts of a new battery are precautionary, as I have to be as confident as possible that the car will start, without problem, when necessary. And there must surely be a question mark about an eight-year-old unit. Just for the record, the car's not a Stop/Start model; it must have been one of the last Classics (Dec 2013). I stopped doing more than day-to-day maintenance some years ago. A visiting engineer/mechanic could deal with the car while I carried on working (and earning!) at home, and would get the jobs done quickly and right first time. Now I'm well retired, but home circumstances have changed and I'm not free to be out without cover. In more recent times, the dealer would collect and return the car for servicing. Because of Covid, and new management, that's no longer on offer - something else to replan. Don't knock the AA; membership isn't cheap but they've got me out of a couple of serious situations over the years. I did guess that their quote would be high, for a quick and easy solution, but you've given me some real comparisons! I'm going to have to do some local market research. Thanks again to all of you.

What it is to have friends (esp Briskoda ones)! I'll have some time to reply later, all being well.

    Even an hour not good...
  15. My Yeti's battery is the original, nearly eight years old now, and I think a replacement would be prudent before another winter. My annual mileage is only around 5K nowadays, mainly on a few local journeys a week under 20 miles, but with three or four a year over 300 miles. The car lives outside, and it can sometimes get very chilly round these hills. The AA are offering me alternative Bosch batteries: the S4005 60ah at £127 or the S4E08 70ah at (wow!) £215, member rate, delivered and fitted at home (almost essential for me). Is the extra amp/hr worth the big jump in price? Your thoughts would be welcome, guys.

My thanks for all help. Seems I'm in the clear

Thanks, Wino (...also safely jabbed!), but I'm still unclear whether that's the original, or with the updated tensioner that seems to have been introduced about then.

Yeti 1.2, delivered Dec 2013, engine CBZBE9xxxx, currently not quite 35K and having a fairly easy life nowadays. No known problems at the moment (quiet starting, at tickover and at revs.), but previous forum comments on this engine leave me unsure - old chain, updated chain, or belt? No record of work on it prior to my acquisition as a three year-old. It's likely that one of our residents can kindly answer more quickly than I could find elsewhere, so my thanks in advance..
  19. You're probably out of luck with Centipede ..... 'Last visited 20 October. 2018'
  20. Thanks for that - I'm learning new words about as frequently as I'm 'temporarily misplacing' old ones. Do you know if they do a reductant for human use?
  21. Mixed emotions indeed, aerofurb. Sad to see another one of the original trail-blazing members leave us, but I'm sure you'll have fun with all the latest tech in the hybrid Superb. I wonder how many Bronze Yetis there are left? Be safe...
  22. Nine years ago next week I signed the order for our first Yeti, which was delivered five months later. I still have the original Yeti grin.
  23. I am repeatedly impressed by the technical/scientific knowledge of some members of this forum
  24. Don't worry, we all have to start somewhere. You can safely post just one thread about one car; readers get a picture of the whole 'problem' if it's useful. And a single post to answer several replies is quite OK (and a lot quicker!), because we're all reading the same posts. I leave you to the experts...
  25. Yup. Being rural, we're always alert for the next wave. Nevertheless, I'm an old (very) softie, and I hate having to kill.
