  1. Mine, a couple of years ago, was a wheel speed (ABS) sensor and, yes, rather dramatic in its random comings and goings.
  2. Additional admin and handling costs, I suppose? Similar to restocking charge for returned goods? Some will, some might, some just won't.
  3. He's one of many in his opinion of the Yeti, but his position makes it one of note. Going off at a tangent, I've now had this Yeti longer than my previous non-Yeti (an 'original' X-Trail). The two Yetis together, at just over 11 years, now hold the ownership record over my beloved Volvo 240 Estate (quarter of a century ago) at nearly ten. Be safe!
  4. Good ol' Trago Mills 😄 PS Just seen this: "...I admit to being a little bit fearful of the DSG failing as I realise a repair could be horrendous so I continue to treat it with utmost caution and just live in hope...." I'm beginning to think that my Yeti just might be my last car (and currently at around 43K). The thought struck me that, on that basis, the possible cost of a DSG problem (horrendous, as you say), even plus a few other bits, is still less that of 'downgrading' to a newer non-Yeti. Happy bunny!
  5. Did anyone who watched the video go on to the comments? One of our Briskoda Yeti pioneers posted a 'memory lane' reply - I'm not naming him, but other people from way back will spot it. Yeti drivers used to wave to each other in those days!
  6. Actually, only ten got the OK, and Paul52 was the lucky last one before the gate shut. We think it likely that two of the ten didn't take their orders. Expatman was the second, thus forming the UK16"SpecialBuildClub with The Plumber, who was the first to get 16" wheels ex-works. If anyone's interested in the story (really?!), go to https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/255522-uk-16-special-build-club-membership-closed/

    MPG

Just to throw in some of my own figures, probably as a back-marker. With a 63 plate 1.2 Yeti on 42K miles (an easy life), on 16" wheels thanks to Expatman's pioneering example, my figures for 2022 were 36.9mpg over, unusually. only 3,500 miles. Most of these were over poor local lanes and with only a handful of journeys of 200-plus miles. I'm always happy to see 40+ showing during the rare motorway run (at or around 70 where reasonable) but pure economy can't be a big factor for me personally. Over rather a lot of years driving, under quite different circumstances I've seen the extremes of a 75mpg Trojan and an 18mpg 110 Landie. Perhaps just keep an eye open for deterioriting consumption but do remember that your own driving style, routes, vehicle condition etc are rarely the same as another's. Be happy you're driving a Yeti!
  8. Well, hello G ! What a nice surprise to see you back....it's been a few years, hasn't it? I guess it's now a big majority of the 'old gang' who've moved on, many of them more or less reluctant to part with their Yetis - and you'll see the number of posts concerning the sad lack of a worthy up-to-date alternative. Given the age of the last Yetis, though, there are few members who return to the fold. It looks as if you've found a real bargain with your '17 L&K 1.4, even if it IS green 🙂! I hope all goes well.
  9. Happy to reassure you, Graham. Companion since 2012...
  10. No excuse necessary - that looks like a very commendable freehand sketch 👍
  11. Bossfox indeed. Ah, those were the days!
  12. Just wandering around the North Cape of Norway (as you do) via Google Street View..... https://www.google.com/maps/@70.9766757,25.7912167,3a,75y,264.05h,88.67t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sPEQkRScmgnZdw0QAhkBrRQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 Is this the furthest-north Yeti pic? Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year to you all 🥂
  13. Have a glass of wine anyway 🍷 The tailgate lock does seem reluctant to release completely occasionally (are ours just at 'that age'?). It usually releases eventually, following a bit of general button pressing (and a good synchronised fist thump sometimes - a crude method, maybe, but it's the product of several decades of motoring and it can't hurt).
  14. I had a bad attack of 'Dancing Windows' in my first Yeti some years ago, which resulted in open windows during overnight rain on two occasions. It coincided with several similar reported incidents with other Yetis, and I left a note for myself (on the PC, of course) of the solution, in case of future problem. (@Paul52, you might remember it, with the prompt, as we are of the same era.) This is from Speedsport's post here, in 2016: Ignition on (don't start the engine), Lower the offending window by pushing the switch down (the switch on the driver's door) and keep holding it down until the window's fully open. Then pull the switch up, and keep holding it up as the window rises and at the same time apply gentle pressure outwards on the glass near the top. Keep the switch up for a further 10 seconds after the window closes & a click should be heard. The window should now be reset. Since then, I've periodically gone through a quick 'maintenance' process: run all windows right down and back up again, right to the stop, on either the fob button or the centre console switch. Just as a reminder to the Window Elves who wind the hidden handles. Enjoy your Yetis while you can 🙂
  15. Hello Sandy.Rogers! You've been a stranger! Interesting to know that you still have the 2011 Yeti. My 2012 140 diesel used to run routinely at 110/120 deg with the big caravan on the hook. Only this re-assurance from me, I'm afraid - I'll leave the tech stuff to others. Best
  16. My ABS etc lights were coming and going - on for a couple of days, gone the next. The local indy were having it in for annual service and MOT, reported it cleared and double road-tested, but the lights were back on before I was off the forecourt. Repeated tests pointed to an iffy NSF sensor; a replacement cost under £50, with adequately reduced labour.
  17. Summary Ignition on (don't start the engine), Lower the offending window by pushing the switch down (the switch on the driver's door) and keep holding it down until the window's fully open. Then pull the switch up, and keep holding it up as the window rises and at the same time apply gentle pressure outwards on the glass near the top. Keep the switch up for a further 10 seconds after the window closes & a click should be heard. The window should now be reset. About once a month, I take all windows right down and back up again, right to the stop, on either the fob button or the centre console switch. Just as a reminder to the Window Elves who wind the hidden handles. HTH
  18. .....Though weren't/aren't we 'original' UK16SBC members all on 215/60's? Welcome to @Urrell nonetheless!
  19. Thanks for the photographs - some great Scottish scenes 👍
  20. Just a mention for the Kleber Quadraxer. I quote from my post of Jan 2020: 'My first Yeti was a heavy 2ltr 240 DSG 4x4, with OEM Conti tyres (no choice) on the special-supply 16" Moon wheels. The Conti's were too soft and not really suitable for our local rural lanes (potholes, bad edges and loose stones) and they didn't like icy roads (we don't get much snow nowadays but heavy frost is common). At 20K miles the treads were near the limit and I was not sorry to have to replace them. I chose the Kleber Quadraxer as the best (for me) replacement at the time - all-season, Michelin parent, and fair price. These did 22K miles on the 2Ltr Yeti, including towing a big caravan, never failed me and still had 5-6mm tread. I transferred them to my current 1.2 petrol Yeti (no caravan now!). At 5 years old, and a total 40K miles (perhaps 60% on poor roads), they began to show some cracking at the shoulder, although there was still around 3-4mm tread all over. I replaced them with Quadraxer 2's only two or three weeks ago, so they are really too new to make fair comment on. The original Quads did everything asked of them, and I had no reason to chose anything else. However, these are certainly quieter than the Quad 1's and have already had to deal with heavy rain and floods. Perhaps we'll have some snow to play in this year ! ' FWIW
