Yes, definitely. Years ago I got a particularly persistent rat, only to realise that it was Christmas Day. I still feel horribly guilty about that and apologise yet again, here.

Agreed so far, but it does depend on the trap. I use a clear plastic type, with a door that trips as soon as there's a visitor. They sometimes don't notice until they've consumed the sultanas, by which time they're not too bothered for a while. Never leave a trap uninspected for more than 24 hours, preferably only twelve for mice - you can check at a glance, even with a torch. Longer than that and they'll chew themselves out via an extended ventilation hole, so nothing inhumane about that. No poison, no glue, no water and best not to use spring traps (in case of non-kill) unless many mice, when the first victim can provide a demonstration that rather discourages others. Rats? Short-term, an airgun only if you're competent, and have plenty of time and a good perch over a clean safe killing ground that's totally on your own premises, otherwise call in a professional. Long-term, buy or breed a good hunter - cat or dog. Good hunting... (but m'lady says 'It's Christmas - give it a chance!')

Cheeky little beggar! I wonder how it got into the car (and why!). Some Christmas fare (I've had most luck with sultanas) and, sadly, a trap are called for, somewhere close to that hole. Just a suggestion - try it overnight without actually arming the trap gets the visitor used to the lump of wood with sultanas round it; the second night should give a result. Personally, I prefer to use a humane trap so that the victim can be returned to the wild, but it's your choice. Luck!

Not your fault Expatman, but following this up leaves me with raised blood pressure. Should I chose to do so, I could wander into a Honda showroom and expect to be shown an actual metal, plastic, glass and rubber example of this vehicle, even have various openings opened for inspection and/or entry. All without enquiry about me from staff (unless they are the snobby sort). Yet if, as in this instance, I have a passing interest in seeing what my Yeti friend is talking about and activate a Google search, the first half-dozen targets - manufacturer, magazines and dealers alike - all want me to waste my time filling in damned forms relating to cookies before they will let me in. I refuse to do it. They want my interest/money?... they should make me welcome, not give me an application form. Rant over...

Yes, seriously. Perhaps 'completely' would have been a better word in this context. There was an issue back in the earlier days about the window limiting system - do a forum search for 'Dancing Windows', perhaps.

Wow! Blast from the past, or something. You reminded me of doing this on a Fiat 124 - early '60's? Went like a rocket, rusted about the same speed. My father had it when I bought my first Landy, though. Someone actually bought it from him after it had stood on his driveway unused for a couple of years after he had to stop driving.

True. My last time, though, was several years ago in a 110 Landy, hoisting a casualty off the crumbling lip of a step at the top end of Lake Vyrnwy. (Repaid with a dozen fresh fish - the only mackerel ever caught on a tow-rope.) But I leave such feats to the younger fellas nowadays

Personal choice, of course, but that hook is a hefty lump of steel which I prefered to leave at home when it wasn't on duty. (Past tense, as my caravanning days are sadly over )

Ah, Colin, those were the days. Not quite sure exactly which days they were, but the sentiment is there. Forgive the minor edit, please; I sold the Ford to a friend a few years later, rather more cash in the hand than I'd paid for it, but it had had a lot of TLC invested in it in that time. You will remember, of course, the three-speed gearbox? Nuff said. I didn't know the 105E; our next was a beautiful Herald 12-50, almost my favourite of many cars in around sixty years - second only to the Yeti. Sorry - off-topic again, like all good ones! Delighted about the resurrection, by the way

Colin, your title had me really worried . 'Dead' is sooo terminal! Four-and-a-half years does seem a bit shorter than is often mentioned here - is this new-fangled stop'n'start thing involved? Though I do note that you switch it off. Your mention of the stalwart Ford 100E is a co-incidence. I've just 'shopped' a 1964 photo of our 100E van, which I can remember de-coking over a weekend with the help of a mate who'd done the job on his. Now that's a job you never hear about nowadays !

Advice needed on + and - of going from 17" to 16" wheels
Expatman and Paul52, as members of the UK16"SpecialBuildClub (now possibly YeOldeUK16"...etc!), speak from experience. Yes, very tolerant of poor (and missing!) road surfaces. No bother with steering feel or accuracy on 215/60 Kleber Quadraxers (possibly the prototype for the Michelin Cross Climates - not cheap, but usefully cheaper) and perfectly happy on motorway cruising. The OP doesn't give a hint at his/her base or territory, which just might be considerations.

Towing with Yeti - which gear mode ?
Exactly that. Even towing our big Elddis with the original Yeti, which was near the mark, I could trust the DSG to make the right decisions. Just occasionally, on a long hill, might I use S to let the motor spin up a bit, but this was probably quite unnecessary. The only part of DSG towing that felt uncomfortable was reversing, especially on wet grass or uphill, when 'feeling' the clutch in isn't possible. Anyway - enjoy!

I'm intrigued. So I Googled, as one does, and found that Bonham's sold one in 2012: quote Lot 424 1941 Tatra T87 Aerodynamic Saloon Chassis no. 49870 Engine no. 12786345 Sold for US$ 280,000 (£ 210,247) inc. premium unquote Interesting to see it's date - 1941; early in WW2. And anyone who remembers the Austin Atlantic is definitely showing signs of antiquity! I admit, warily, that I still have my Dinky version (a much battered pink!)...🤫

Back in the day, as they say, most owners spotted other Yetis as there were so few around. The so-called Yeti Grin was common and the wave of companionship was almost automatic. My feeling is that there are now so many Yetis in second, third or whatever ownership that the novelty is long gone. My first Yeti (2012) was only the second in the area and the sighting of another was a once-a-month event. Now there are at least six that we frequently see locally, and as many again that we see now and then. Yesterday we had to go out of our usual territory and in a twenty miles or so we saw a dozen Yetis. I still raise the hand of friendship but it's a long, long time since it was returned. If you'd put the model and colour of your Yeti in your profile I promise to watch out for you when I'm around Sutton 🙂 .

You're right - less it is. Although I haven't kept formal track of the ten members, I know that several have stopped posting over the years since 2012/13. Two or three are still around despite now being Yeti-less. One person on the list didn't actually take delivery and become a full member; he had another car on order at the same time which was delivered first. It's quite possible that you, as the last to join (May 2013), are the last fully-qualified member! My own qualification (Sept 2012) lies in the 16" wheels themselves, which are now on my later Yeti 1.2 DSG. Any news welcome, of course...
