  1. This is the uprated fuel pump I ran on my VRS. I need an equivalent pump to this for the 4x4 Octavia, something with the same flow and bar.
  2. I`m not sure. It was an uprated fuel pump I installed on the VRS for my remap. I do think if it is a 4 wheel drive audi then yes it should fit. Does the S3 and TT Quattro used a higher bar fuel pump compared to the VRS?
  3. Trying to find a complete unit as an upgrade for my fuel pump? Just finished an engine swap project, an AUQ engine into a 4x4 elegance(ARX)... went to swap my AUQ fuel pump canister into the 4x4 as mine is an uprated 7 bar fuel pump that I needed for my stage 2 dyno remap... and it's missing a connector that connects the pipe to the other side of the fuel tank on the 4x4 car..!!. :( So now I`m trying to find something suitable for this 4x4 tank. Ideally I just want a complete canister with uprated fuel pump already in and fuel level sender unit, so would fit this tank and support the pipe that connects to the other side of the tank. So that I can just drop it in the tank without any messing about.
  4. Yes tell me about I! I haven't yet. Sorting out the exhaust at the moment. I am planning to fire the car up soon then I will see what happens when I shift gears.
  5. It looks like I go into 2nd gear ok on the video, but it doesn`t even feel like its moving into a gear, if you know what I mean and you can see the shifter doesn`t self centre either... and even stranger there is a 6th gear... when its a 5 speed gearstick. Video.MOV
  6. Very confused. Recently purchased a 2001 4x4 elegance 1.8T for an engine conversion project. I don`t know how I didn't notice it before. But the car seems to have no 2nd gear, but magically it has a 6th gear... Any ideas? I haven`t actually driven the car as such and It was delivered to my garage on a low loader. It's just this evening I have got close to finishing the project and I was going through the gears in the car after a gbox oil change and noticed this strangeness.. Is it possible to fit the shifter/gearstick unit and/or linkages the wrong way around? Because if you treat the magical 6th gear position on the gearstick as 1st I do have 5 gears and a reverse gear.. it's so weird. It's like the gearstick is mirrored. :-/
  7. Thanks for the reply.. It would make sense as I had a good feel around on top of the diff and there are no fill plugs.. The odd thing is according to ETKA the 5 speed has a big fill plug on top of the front diff and the 6 speed does not have a fill plug. Mine is a 5 speed as far as I'm aware.. unless someone has fitted a 5 speed shifter to a 6 speed box lol. On ETKA the diagrams show that the diff unit without the fill plug is the 6 speed. I`m really confused.
  8. Please can someone clarify something for me? The gearbox on this car has two drain plugs, one on the small diff unit where the prop shaft connects and one on the main gearbox. I have drained both. The front diff unit where the propshaft connects, is this filled separately to the gearbox? OR are both joined and share the same oil? Thanks, Samuel
  9. I had a blow once and it was actually coming from the gasket at the top of the turbo manifold where the 3 bolts are. Also could be a crack in your turbo manifold. After removing my turbo manifold and replacing I had both of these issues, most of the gaskets on the turbo manifold were shot and there was a crack right at the back of the manifold out of sight! Also if you have one of those ebay 3" down pipe jobs(Which I have), I had to have the weld re-done on mine at the 4 bolt flange end.. because the weld was awful and cracked.
  10. Ok update, I got the engine out without removing drive shafts or gearbox. It is possible... but my god it was a pain in the ass! When the bracket below the upper engine mount is completely removed and the gearbox mount is removed there is enough room to wiggle the engine off the gearbox. But in future I will definitely remove the two drive shafts and remove engine + gearbox together! Samuel
  11. It's not a straight forward as just removing the gearbox unfortunately, this car I`m pulling the engine from is a 4x4 so has haldex, so I have got to remove all the angle/transfer box too.. and that is not an easy job in itself I`m sure.
  12. I don`t really want to remove the transmission though. I am only swapping the engine. I want to keep and use the transmission. I wish I knew how darkside developments did my clutch change a while back. They told me they didn`t have to even remove driveshafts to do that. So the engine must be able to come out of the bay without removing all the driveshafts and gearbox.
  13. So the driveshafts and hubs have got to come off before I can remove the engine.. great. What a stupid design.
  14. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE GERMAN ENGINES... ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. First time doing an engine swap on the Octavia. Removing an ARX engine from a four wheel drive model and replacing with my tuned AUQ engine from my VRS. Could do with some advice from someone who has done this before because there must be something I have missed somewhere. I have removed pretty much every bolt I could locate apart from the 4 down pipe nuts, they are rusted on solid so I decided to unbolt the entire turbo from the engine and turbo manifold. Removed all bolts from transmission and unbolted upper engine mount and dog bone mount. I`m lifting the engine and using a crowbar to help pry it away from the transmission. I can see a gap growing between the transmission and engine. But when I get it pryed so far the other side the lower section of the upper engine mount is pushed up tight against the chassis... so the engine cannot move any further, its like jammed between the chassis and gearbox... I really am confused as to how I am going to get this engine out? I lift with my engine crane and it gets to a point where it starts to lift the entire front of the car. :( I have attached some pics. top of gearbox - 1st pic bottom of gearbox - 2nd pic upper engine mount side where the bracket is coming into contact with the chassis. - 3rd pic
  16. Excellent info as i am currently doing a conversion. AUQ engine onto a 1.8t elegance with fex transmission. There is something worth noting about the transmission and my information is from a friend who works for a vag dealer. The 5 speed on the auq fwd rs actually has the same gearing as the 5 speed fex 4x4 including the same final drive.
  17. @Fabpreza and for anyone who comes across this misinformed topic... The same Haldex units are used across all the 4WD Vag cars, Quattro is just another word for 4 wheel drive on the Audi. There is no difference between the same generation Haldex used on the 4x4 Skoda or the Audi. Both are the same. A 1st Gen Audi Haldex is the same as a 1st Gen Skoda Haldex. All Haldex units are not 50/50 distribution from factory, apart from some of the very latest generations. However there are modifications you can use on the older generation Haldex to bring them closer to 50/50, like upgraded blue/orange controllers or the powertrack inserts that Darkside development produce.
  18. Ok found out from DPM that the shocks I have are only suitable for the VRS. So sourcing the correct ones for the 4x4 now. Thanks for the advice Damian.
  19. I have sourced a 2001 Elegance 4x4 at the weekend as a little project. As the engine on my mk1 vrs 2002 is all mapped and I have spent a lot of money on it.. I decided to drop it into the elegance and mate it upto the 4 wheel drive system. However prior to this I ordered some Bilstein shocks for my VRS(only the rears at the moment as there is a shortage of front VRS Bilstein's for this car, a backlog of orders so I`ve been told) and H&R 20mm lowering springs. My question is will the rear shocks that were meant for the VRS fit the 2001 Elegance, are the rear shocks common across all Octavia chassis? I am glad I did not order any front shocks yet for the VRS as I am certain the front shocks are special to the VRS model. Regards, Samuel
  20. It's typical German electronic crap. I did away with my entire lock in the end and just replaced it with a normal key and lock(the old fashioned way). It works and doesn't cost you silly money. The biggest problem with cars nowadays is too much electronics, so many things to go faulty. Now my passenger side rear door has decided to randomly stay permanently locked. It's just one thing after the next, I just gave up and thought f*** it. I will probably ditch all the central locking rubbish eventually and just lock the doors with keys. My drivers side electric window is permanently in the upright position because that was something else electrical that broke. Also my drivers side electric mirror stopped working so I just adjust it using my hand now and leave it, works well.
  21. It may serve a purpose with the standard factory engine. But after a lot of modifications and mapping it will hinder rather than help, this is why tuners remove it, my tuner CC Tuning deleted it from my map. It is designed to work with the stock engine air flow. Anyone going for big power figures will naturally have a better flowing engine are advised to delete it because it can have an impact on high airflow.
  22. Rubbish. I had mine deleted when it was setup on the dyno. it's been my daily car for years making 260bhp and 280ib/ft torque and I never have any driving issues or problems with fuel economy. Maybe disabling it without a proper setup on a rolling road would cause issues yes. To be fair any change to an engines original factory setup should be followed by a proper setup on a rolling road. Anyone with any common sense should realise this.
  23. I've done a bit more investigation. Am I right in believing for the VRS MK1 i have to combine B8 shortened bilstein dampers https://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/car-parts/skoda/octavia/bilstein-b8-sprint-damper-shock-absorber-kit-octavia-1u-vrs-18t-0501 with these? the springs are not listed for VRS but i dont think that matters?.. https://www.larkspeed.com/shopper/i/28E7907140/Skoda-Octavia-Mk1-Saloon-1-8-1-8-Turbo-Eibach-Pro-Kit-Lowering-Springs
  24. Hi Damian, Thanks for the reply. Can you provide me a quote for a Bilstein B12 Pro kit(with eibach springs) that would be suitable? Regards, Samuel
