  3. Just responded to the previous aircon post. There have been people discussing problems with the evaporator temperature sensor and a useful guide to getting at that sensor for a Fabia. I want to know where this sensor is on an Octavia2 and how to get at it. It has been said that the fault causes intermittent operation of the aircon.
  4. My aircon in a 2006 5-door Octavia 2 worked beautifully for 6 years, then did not get cold enough. I had it re-gassed by Norauto. They measured the temperature of the air coming out of the vents, having said that it was impossible to get entry and output temperatures. The control said that the pressure was low and the system needed gas. The temperature of the air from the vent was 12 degrees before the maintenance and 13 degrees afterwards. But the ambient air temperature, south of France, was hot and rising during the long maintenance. I was a bit disappointed. I felt that the aircon was not significantly improved. That was done 24 July 2014. This summer I am convinced that it is nowhere near cold enough. It is also a bit intermittent. Sometimes it takes a long time to get any cold air and sometimes it switches off for a while. I have seen on the site that there can be problems with the evaporator temperature sensor - there is a useful description for a Fabia. I want to know where this sensor is for the Octavia2 and how to get at it - anyone know please?
  5. There is another thread on this "Problem with Windows opening themselves". It looks to me as though this is a real problem. One post said that he had changed the fob battery and had not had a problem since. That is unconvincing both electronically and because intermittent problems are difficult to diagnose/cure. I believe later Octavia's give the owner the possibility of choosing to have the facility or not through the car computer - mine does not, though as you say the facility could be turned off by the dealer.
  6. I have had a similar problem on at least 6 occasions. I return to the car and find all the windows usually half open but today fully open. Two weeks ago I was parked about 50 mtrs from the house with the semi inbetween - I guess this may still be near enough for the fob to work. ( But I have noticed that when I want to use the window opening facility, I must be quite close to the vehicle - MUCH closer than the maximum lock-operating distance.) In the morning I found the windows 1/2 open. The next evening I closed and locked the car and carried the key fob open in my hand so that the buttons could not be touched. Next morning the windows were 1/2 open again. I don't believe the problem is caused by holding down the unlock button but I cannot be absolutely sure. Unfortunately I did not check whether the doors were locked - but I guess the safety re-locking might operate if no doors were opened after a spurious unlock. This has happened near Petersfield UK and in France.
  7. Correction! Bolts are provided with my Ferodo replacement pads.
  8. The link posted for rear brake pad/disc change by Chr1Staylor (http://www.seatcupra...ad.php?t=225698) is superb. But as mentioned above the piston must be rotated when retracting it AND OPEN THE BLEED VALVE SO THAT DIRTY FLUID IS NOT PUSHED INTO THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM!! I have a Mk2 Octy and Mk1 Haynes manual. It says that the centre console must be removed to release the handbrake cables so that they can be removed at the brake. It was very helpful to see that the job can be done while leaving the handbrake cables attached. My pads came without bolts - Haynes says replace them.
