  1. Hi there,

Can anyone confirm a part number for me please?

The part(s) in question is the two flexible fuel pipes that go from the fuel filter to/from the injection pump. (the ones that get the air leak leading to cold start problems!)

Car details are a 2001 (51) Octy Tdi Elegance (110bhp) with ASV engine code.

I did ask the dealer over the phone, but he wasn't sure exactly what part i needed.

Number he gave was 1J0 130307R, but at

  2. There's a minimum thickness specified by the manufacturer for brake disks, if you post ur engine details i'll have a look for u,

Its then just a case of measuring the disk thickness - a good diy way is with a pair of mole grips (set them so they just clamp down on the disk, then release, close them down off the disk and measure the gap) not 100% acurate but...

It's worth remembering that if you change the disks you have to put new pads on too.

As Wayne said its p**s easy to change em

  3. Had this problem with mine too a few weks ago.

Tried topping it up, but didn't work.

Turned out that the concentration of Antifreeze/coolant in there was too weak.

I think the sensor works on conduction through the fluid or something so cold temp & a week mix makes it think there is no fluid, once you've warmed the fluid up abit by running the engine for a few mins its all fine again - I'm happy to be told i'm talking rubbish here if thats the case!

Believe you can get a concentration tester from Halfrauds for a few quid to check with if topping us doesn't work.

  4. My 2001(51 plate) TDi Elegance has:

Door open warning light - YES

Brake Pad warning light - YES

Bulb failure light - don't think so, but i haven't has a bulb go yet!

As for the c/locking i can definatly say there is no click.

Do you have the 'anti hijack' feature enabled that locks the doors when you get over a certain speed - may or may not have something to do with it!

    Hope this helps!

  5. I did the ARB bushes on mine last weekend (just the std VAG ones).

Used a trolley jack under the lower suspension arm to lift the ARB up & down off the bush and monkey wrench to clamp the ARB forward abit so i could get the mounting clamp done up again!

It's made a really masive difference to the handling & i now have no noise going over speed bumps!

As for all the other bushes i don't have a clue but i think you might have to get a garage to do it as i think they need special tools to get the bushes into the lower arm. - i'm sure some one will be able to say for sure!

  6. So if I add Web'n'Walk my existing Flext contract and connect my phone (SE W810i) to my laptop via Bluetooth does it count data downloaded to the PC as Web'n'Walk?

Oh' date=' and roughly how fast is it?[/quote']

Thats exactly what I do (same phone etc).

Technically the small print says you shouldn't use it as a modem for a computer, but i've been doing it for 3 or 4 months with no ill effect (just don't go hoging the bandwidth and they can't really tell)

As far as speed goes it seems on a par with dial up, if not a little quicker at times but i only use it for e-mail & the odd bit of surfing.

  7. I'm not a sparky either, but have fitted towing electrics to afew cars now.

It sounds like it could be a short circuit or earthing problem (though don't hold me to that!).

If the +ve feed to the indicator shorts on to another cable (or to ground) then electricity being lazy will take the line of least resistance & not bother going through the bulb.

Does it all work when it's plugged into the Caravan?

  8. Just out of interest does anyone know how much of a 'lip' is acceptable on ones disks?

Mine are developing one & i've got about 18 months till my next service, so don't really want to leave them till then (i'm also too tight to pay some one to do something i'm perfectly capable of doing in a few hours)!

    Any opinions greatly recived.

  9. Fitting the tow bar is certainly straight forward, although you really need to make sure you torque all the bolts up properly for safetys sake

I followed this guide for fitting http://www.packetradio.co.uk/Cars/octavia/towbar.htm

I used scotch locks for the electrics as i was fitting a 13pin socket and couldn't find a plug in loom at the right price, at the end of the day don't really see the wiring and as long as you take the time to crimp them properly you get a decent conection.

am still trying to find a way of getting the tell tail light behind the dash working cos the buzzer is bleeding anoying on long runs & i do quite alot of towing.

  10. Well i've just come back from 2 weeks in the south of France with it and the problem has disappeared!

Think it might have something to do with the heat making everything swell & what ever it was has 'slotted' back in to place, lets just hope it stays like that!

There is obviously a case for giving your car a holiday in the sun:thumbup:

  11. As said above find all the joints on the pipes to the fuel pump and smear a little vaslene over all joints.

Turn it over until it starts' date=' then run it for a minute or two. Turn it off an leave it for a good few hours or overnight. If that solves it then you have an airleak, and cleaning off each joint one by one until it happens again will locate the leak.

You will only have 1 or 2 connections in the system so shouldn't take too long.[/quote']

Thanks for that, i'll get the vaslene out over the weekend!!!

  12. Thanks for all the suggestions guys,

I can safely say its not the glows as i replaced them a couple of months ago, also tested them with high tension Ammeter inline and there is definatly current going to them.

I've had VAG com plugged in and it doesn't throw up any error codes, i've also run 4 tanks worth of Redex through it to try & clear any dirt of the injectors, but all to no avail

Looks like i'm gonna have to take it down to the dealers (i'm unfortunatly way out of warranty!)

Ken, if it was an air leak in the LP feed, is this something i could find myself, or is it dealer job?

  13. I'm having the same problem with mine.

Although it only seems to do it if it has been sitting for 7 hrs + (ish).

Have checked the Glow Plugs & they work fine, i'm thinking it might have something to do with the fuel system.

If anyone has any ideas i'd love to hear them!

    Pete

  14. As long as the car is DBW' date=' which your's should be, you can buy the bits.

Plenty of info around on the net for DIY stuff.

Here are the official Skoda fitting instructions - [url']http://home.eplus-online.de/olbe/pdfs/Montagebeilage_Octavia.pdf[/url]

    http://www.golfmk4.co.uk/cruise_control.htm

Added it to my 2001 Elegance ths weekend, using the instructions on the golfmk4 site. Took about 4 hrs (although 1.5 of those was spent trying to get the wiper arms off!) it's not difficult, just takes a bit of time and nerves to take the airbag off!

All the parts you need etc are listed on the site (just a stalk & loom no Cat5 needed) cost me about £65 from vagparts.co.uk

You can also enable it on the ECU with the Freeware version of VAGCOM - just a case of getting a cable of e-bay for around £15

Good luck if you decide to do it!
