  1. Don't need a special forum as average age of a Yeti Owner is around the 60 mark (Briskoda survey). But maybe a new "Back in the Day" thread would not go amiss.
  2. Be warned. Any changes to model/gearbox will or may result in a "new" order and back of the queue again. Happened to me. Was not advised and ended up cancelling my FL.
  3. Remember all that so well...... also press button B to get your money back (public phone box).
  4. No - he did not check them, just "assumed" they were correct. No p/ex listed.
  5. Also if your current dealer is now offering £14 as a trade, then that is only £1000 below what you are asking privately (£15500 ono - so assume you would take £15k), so the £2500 offered, is a bit of a red herring really in this instance. Take your dealers offer of £14k as not far off trade/book price (or try and squeeze a bit more with a threatened cancellation), as you might not sell the Yeti soon and for a price you want. If you order elsewhere, the £14k p/ex on the table now could be considerably less in 3/4 months time. We have already discussed the wheel options so it's really a "No Brainer" decision - and you can drive your new FL next week and not in 3/4 months time.
  6. £5k off?? That's 20% on a £25k Yeti Recall you stating previously that you got a great deal on a 15 (not 15k) mile showroom £25k pre FL for £14k, although you never confirmed if this was the balance to pay after your p/ex or the actual price. As you p/ex'd a Freelander, I assume this was the balance to pay? If so, that prices your trade at £6k, which makes a little more sense to the figures you originally quoted. Must be the deal of the century though.
  7. Price looks fair as books at £15300 for a private sale with 30k miles. Trade/part ex is £14400 and webuyanycar values at £13500. Franchise dealer would ask around £17k, so all in all you are about right with your pricing, but expect to be offered £15k. As Brimma says, the only good buyer is one that is there with the cash - in life there are talkers and do'ers. I think that maybe you have answered your own dilemma, insomuch as you agree that any dealer would now be offering you less (and waiting again). So if you are not worried about loosing your £750 deposit, and your only concern is the Matterhorns, then, as they cost the same as your deposit, just buy them and sell the stock ones - simples! Either that, or be stubborn, loose £750 and go through another 4 month wait with a less p/ex. Also JVS = Jonathan Vernon Smith not Jeremy Vine.
  8. Why did you not mention the drop in trade price in your original post, which only mentions the roof and wheels (as per the topic title). Like others have said here, surely the £2500 is more important than the wheels/roof? Anyway, I suspect that the dealer sucked you in originally with a good trade price, based on what your Yeti was worth at that time. Had you had got that in writing, I can't see how he could go back on that price. However, as you did not, then not a lot you can do. Dealers can and should price in advance, but several months (and a new year) can make a substantial difference to trade values. Also, don't think that a Yeti is easy to sell privately. You have to price realistically, and not be over zealous and ask what a dealer would. Private sales are usually around 10% less than dealer prices. And, always allow a margin for negotiation as well, as most savvy buyers will want and expect a bit off. Always, but always pay for any big purchase (or in this case deposit) on credit card. However, I can't see that this would have helped in this instance, as legally (and on paper), the dealer appears to hold all the aces. I still can't see why though, you want to order another Yeti from another dealer, and wait another 4 months, when your existing Yeti (not FL) will be valued even less than now. Swallow your pride - take the Yeti you ordered (after trying to get something off for the mix up), sell your car privately, webuyanycar or let the dealer have it, and get on with your life. Out of curiosity, what is the year/mileage of your current Yeti, and what did you expect to sell/trade for? Good luck!
  9. Agree. For entirely different reasons, I had to cancel my FL order and had no trouble at all getting my deposit back. OP's dealer would have no trouble at all selling on, especially in that spec/colour. Like you say, there must be some middle ground. In a similar situation, I would not cancel just for the sake of incorrect wheels, however annoying that might be, as one would then have to re-order and wait another 4 months (or longer). However, it that is the route the OP wishes to pursue, and assuming he still wants a Yeti, why not re-order from the same dealer, and roll his £750 deposit over into the new one, and maybe negotiate a better deal. Dealer maybe very happy to have a unregistered FL Yeti to sell.
  10. I was assuming you paid cash. Deals on finance have different rules as the dealer gets a kickback from the finance company (not 0% deals though), so he can be a bit more generous on the deal. If you were not taking the 0% deal, you would have been able to get far more than 7% as you probably are aware (Yetis getting 16% on average with no finance or trade in). The dealer subsidises the 0% offer, so are limited to what discount they can give away. In your case 7% seems about right with the 0% offer finance, and is the same as Yeti purchasers were getting when taking the 0% deal.
  11. Sorry to disagree - but the rules of the game in the trade is "the price to change". You may have got top book, and a supposed discount, but with no p/ex you would have got more discount - guaranteed. Or, with no "discount" you would have got over top book - it's just a game the dealers play to make the customer think they have won. Dealers are like Magicians - now you see it now you don't. Anyway, as long as the customer thinks they got a good deal, that's all that matters.
  12. Matterhorns are a no cost option on the Elegance, but have to be specified on the order form. I also listen to a daily consumer show (BBC 3 Counties), and they have consumer lawyers on there regularly, and 100% agree with gadgetman's views. If it's not on a signed contract - it's not legally biding - period!
  13. Yes, but what would he buy instead - and no doubt another long wait. Not worth it over a set of wheels IMO. Lots of alternative solutions for him listed here. However, I agree that the dealer should sort this out for him, but as already been stated - check, check, and double check. Like 137699, when checking my order form, there were several omissions. I became so paranoid in the end worrying about getting the correct extras I had speccified, that I called Skoda UK and got them to confirm what they had on their system in regards my order.
  14. Check his side profile - South Croydon!
  15. Granted Johann, but why can someone like say Ferrari or Morgan sell at list, with absolutely no discount and a lengthy waiting time. Point I was making initially to Gyp's point re minimal discounting, is that it is a fallacy in respect to most sales on Yetis if members discounts are to be believed. Still, I bet that the majority of purchasers, especially those that have a trade in (the majority I would think), pay near to list. I am not embarrassed to say, but I have paid almost list for many new cars over the years when no p/ex involved (Yeti included), not because I am lacking in the negotiating skills, but I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve, and being impatient, normally means that maybe I give in a bit too easy I suppose. However, with a p/ex, you always end up paying list, no matter how the dealer dresses up the deal (ie; over book p/ex and list, or book and discount) - and that is a fact from the trade.
  16. Tried these - Smart phone (hated it - reverted to my old Nokia). Tablet (ditto - prefer my 22" desk PC). Smart 3D TV (3D waste of time as is the internet facility, but the actual TV is great). The only techno feature I love and would really miss is Sky's (and most other providers) record/pause live TV facility. Can't imagine recording on video tape now. Back in the day (1974/5), when I was a techno freak keeping up with all the latest gadgets, I purchased a Philips video recorder (N1500?). Cost me a fortune back then, and the only place I could source one (quickly), was from a specialised outlet within the grounds of Shepperton Studios. So as the saying goes on Dragon's Den - "I'm out!"
  17. Agree with most of that except minimal discounting. So many on here have been getting up to 16% discount (via broker or direct from dealer), so hardly call that "minimal". I can't understand though why they have to give such big discounts if they can sell everyone they make.
  18. Ditto that with Subaru dealers. My local Sub dealer even got me a customer's car to test as they did not have an Auto in stock. Did not buy a Sub in the end though, although have owned a couple of Imprezas from them in the past, and the dealer (and cars) were faultless. Agree that Skoda dealer's attitude (not all) are getting a bit Audi-sh ("oh no a customer to deal with - got to put my i-phone away").
  19. Me too - especially the lowered side skirt extensions. Sports seats as well I see from the description. If it is available with the 170 engine in 2WD, should be a hoot to drive (as based on City/Indoor only according to the script if I am reading it correct). Looks like it's lowered as well - perfect.
  20. I disagree that the badges look similar - not even the same colour. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Vauxhall_Logo.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Skoda_Auto_logo_(2011).svg
