  1. I remember the twin tanks on the Jags. It was always great to press the button to change tanks in the car and watch the needle go from empty to full, as if by magic.
  2. Ha ha yes i remember Green shield stamps, and petrol ration books in the 70s. I have driven Volvo bendy buses that also got 4 or 5 MPG like your fire engines. I see todays fire engines are nearly always Volvos,Scanias,or Mans and all automatic. Same with modern buses Volvos and Scanias all automatic and light years ahead of the old Leylands
  3. Ah yes those were the days. I also had a Granada Ghia automatic which got 19 MPG and a Jaguar XJ6 that got 17 MPG. When i started driving in 1968 i would say to the petrol station worker (they served you in those days) can i have a Pounds worth please, and would you believe you got 4 Gallons.....yes 25p a gallon!! Stop it you are making me feel old!!
  4. My first car was a Hillman Imp in 1968. Then a Ford Escort, and then i moved on to Sports Cars, MGB,TR6. Petrol was a different price in those days so 15 - 20 MPG was not a problem. Thank goodness today my car does 60 - 80 MPG
  5. I can remember when all cars even luxury models like Jaguar had keep fit windows wind up type. At least these days most cars have electric window controls. I don't know........you youngens want the world lol!! (Just a Joke)
  6. Thanks guys.I will certainly order it with the car when i buy. I remember the days when all cars came with a spare,it was not an add on at extra cost. So my car will be the Elegance Automatic in Red with Spare wheel,Privacy Glass, and extended warranty, whenever i decide to order it,perhaps next year. I see in Auto Express VW is discounting the UP to match the Citygos price. That is interesting.
  7. I like the Red or Black best. My last few cars have been Red or Black. The Red with the stripes looks good.Reminds me of the old Mini Coopers stripes,or the latest BMW Minis come to that. Black wheels are all the rage at the moment. All makes of cars have them these days. My current car is Black,so i would have a Red Citygo when i get one, perhaps with the Black wheels.
  8. Is that how the £50 Spare Wheel Option comes with the Citygo with the tools etc? If so it is a good bargain compared to the £150 asked on there. Better still if you get it thrown in as part of the deal.
  9. Years ago you could always get the Urban figure, but not these days. All the car forums moan about this. Smart advertise the Diesel as giving 85 MPG as the Urban figure. We are all saying we infact get 60 MPG in town, which is still good for an automatic, but nothing like the advertised figure. I have got 80 MPG on a longer motorway run driving at a steady 55 MPH. Some say do not use air con or the radio.Never open a window, never go over 50 MPH. All this to save 50p a month!! I would sooner use air con etc and enjoy my car. Failing that you might as well walk lol.
  10. All small cars mist up because of the small space inside. My Smart mists up but i find with the air con on it clears quickly.Set the control to the screen. If all else fails open the window for a short time.
  11. I can't shout i have a bad throat lol. For some strange reason my words printed very small on another post,so i used caps for this one. It is back to normal today. It always makes me laugh how for example in a newsagents when spending 30p on a newspaper,no one will wait in line without tapping there feet and getting upset that they have to wait for 5 seconds. They expect to be treated like royals. However when spending thousands on a car they do not mind being treated like rubbish. The salesman does not phone when he said he would, never mind, the car has not been delivered on time, never mind,he offers you peanuts on your part ex,never mind. It is true when i was young i also did not mind.I had to have that car no matter what. However today i am older if not wiser and i insist on good service. A car is just a car. There is always another to purchase from a dealer who knows how to treat a customer if the first one has not got a clue.
  12. I was talking about used cars.Any used car not just the Citygo, always have at least a £1500 mark up.
  13. YOU ARE JUST THE KIND OF CUSTOMER SALESMEN LOVE. PLEASE REMEMBER ALL CARS ARE OPEN TO DISCOUNT.THEY ALL DROP ANYTHING FROM 20% - 30% AS SOON AS THEY ARE REGISTERED.JUST SEE WHAT THE SALESMAN OFFERS YOU IF YOU BRING THE CAR BACK AFTER A MONTH BECAUSE YOU DONT LIKE THE CAR!! I HAVE NEVER BOUGHT A CAR ANY MAKE WITHOUT AT LEAST A £1000 DISCOUNT,SOMETIMES A LOT MORE. THEY MAKE A NICE PROFIT AND DEALER BONUS. THE BEST TIME TO GO INTO THE SHOWROOM IS THE END OF THE MONTH WHEN THEY WANT TO MAKE UP THE SALES FIGURES FOR THAT MONTH,AND SAY YOU WILL BUY TODAY IF THE DEAL IS GOOD. ALSO REMEMBER ON A USED CAR THE MARK UP IS AT LEAST £1500 SO AGAIN HAGGLE HARD. YOU COULD WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR WHEN THE 20% DISCOUNT WILL PROBABLY BE ON OFFER AS WITH ALL SKODAS. THEN AGAIN IF YOU WANT TO MAKE THE SALESMAN RICH GO AHEAD AND PAY THE ASKING PRICE OR EVEN PAY EXTRA SEEING AS YOU LIKE THE SALESMAN SO MUCH LOL.
  14. It is a pity it does not fit flush with the dash as it does in the Smart and other cars BMW, Mercdes, and Jaguar to name a few. If it was me i would always take it out and the holder.Carry it with you and leave the glove box lid open,so Mr Scum Bag can see there is nothing to half inch. Then again do you need to use it every time? Some people use sat navs just to go to the supermarket they go to every week, when they know the way. I only use mine when i do not know the way. As for music etc i prefer the sound of the engine.
  15. " Dealer says they are flying out " Well he would say that of course. He is not going to say they are rubbish,no one wants them. You do not get a fish seller shouting STINKING FISH FOR SALE!! I have never purchased a car without a discount and i never would.Remember as soon as the car is registered it has lost anything from 20%-40% no matter if the car is one day old or one year old. All dealers will discount cars seeing as they get a dealer bonus even if they sell a car at cost. True with a new model like the Citygo discounts will be harder to get,but they will be out there if you try.The Internet dealers are knocking £500 off,and dealers have delivery mileage pre reg cars on sale just to make sure they get their dealer bonus. My advice, haggle hard.I taught Dom littlewood all he knows lol.
  16. My Smart has this, however i can turn it on or off by pressing the locking button on the dash at the same time as pressing the button on the remote key fob. Perhaps you can do this on the Citygo as well without the need for the dealer to do it? The Smart comes from the dealer with the auto lock switched on,and i have never turned it off because i like it activated, but the instructions to turn it off are in the hand book.
  17. A local dealer has a Skoda showroom and a Seat showroom next door to each other. It must be interesting for them to see which car the customer will go for, citygo or Mii. At the moment they have pre reg 12 Seat mii S for sale at £7400.Crazy price seeing as they are no longer classed as new.A drop of only £450!! If you brought a new one back to them after a week they would offer you £6000 for it and then put the usual £1500 mark up on it.Not to mention they have earned their dealer bonus by reg the car in the first place. I was tempted obviously for a lower price say even £7000 as in September i have to get my Smart serviced,MOT,and renew insurance and breakdown insurence, however i really want the Skoda Elegance automatic with everything on it,so i know i will not be happy with a basic Seat S without remote locking or electric windows,so i will wait till next year. I have seen in the "aim to pay" price list in Auto Express there is no reduction on Skoda prices but VW UP prices are reduced to match the Citygo prices. That is interesting.
  18. In the past i have printed out the price for different cars from the internet dealers and then asked local dealers to match the price.Sometimes they can not match the price, but other times they can.
  19. I am sure when the cars came out they said autos would not be availabe till late 2012. Not sure if that applies to all 3 Citygo/UP/Mii. It would be nice if all 3 makes at least had a demo auto model for us to try. Its not a problem for me as i would not want to purchase till 2013 or 2014 by which time the autos will be on sale and i hope with the 20% discount (free VAT) as on other Skoda models.
  20. The ASG box will be just like the one in the Smart i am sure. The lever and layout are just the same in the pics. I can tell you the auto change is perfectly ok in the Smart as long as you do not gun it everywhere. If you take it nice and easy the changes are fine. The box does not have creep like a true auto, but the Smart has hill hold assist, which keeps the brake on for 2 seconds after you move your foot from the brake to prevent roll back. It also locks the box when you park and select Reverse the same as putting it in Park in a true auto. Not sure if the Citygo will have these features, but i would have thought it should.
  21. Why not get rid of the Qashqai before, and ask the dealer if he can loan you a car for free till yours is ready? Perhaps one of the used cars or courtesy cars. That is what my dealer did for me when i bought my Smart.
  22. The KA is less costly when you can get a £2000 discount off some new models. It is infact a Fiat 500 with a different body. The 500 is certainly overpriced,as is the new Panda, but again with massive discounts on the Panda it is a different story.
  23. Did you get it from a Manchester dealer or somewhere else? I was in Warrington the other week and there is a Skoda Showroom there that looks good. They had 2 Citygos in the showroom.I sat in one,but no salesman came over.I guess he is used to people sitting in the new car to see what its like.
  24. Yes adding loads of extras obviously puts the price up,and you never get this money back at resale time. It is better to go for the higher spec model like the Elegance. Then of course at £10 000+ you could have a Fabia with a good discount. It is the same with the VW UP in top spec,or the Polo for the same price. Again cash is best if you can. The internet dealers are knocking £500 off the price at the moment, but i am not sure what the delivery times are.
  25. Thanks for the input. I thought i would have had more replies to this.I guess everyone is sitting out in the sun in this fantastic summer we are having,or should that be eating Fish & Chips in the rain lol!! I have had all sorts of cars over the years including classic sports cars MGB,TR6, to Jaguar XJ6 the Rover Mini and Fiat Cinq Sporting in bright Yellow. These days i want good MPG and an Automatic for the constant stop start of the Manchester traffic.I only use the car mainly for short trips so the Smart is perfect,as im sure the Citygo would also be. For longer trips i always take the train. I went to London for the day recently, and the train fare Manchester to London return is only £20 with a Railcard if you book in advance, and the trip only takes 2 hours. Even at 80 MPG in the car it would cost more and take 4 hours, and that is without parking and the congestion charge.
