  1. It all works in mysterious ways. Map updates are needed as even last week it kept trying to take me up one way streets the wrong way to get back on a closed road. Another very strange anomaly is that on the M11 there is a 60 and 50 mile speed limit for roadworks. My Kodiaq 3 year old Columbus displays all the correct speed restrictions in the roadworks but despite the 'new' MIB3 Amundsen showing the actual roadworks, the displayed speed stays at 70! Not much help when you are using the new speed alert system that picks up from the satnav the speed limits in place whether temporary or actual! Maybe Skoda are using different sources for traffic and roadworks data?
  2. I have now had a response from the UK team who, on advice from the factory, "I have received contact back from our factory team who have advised that your vehicle is required to visit your local ŠKODA Retailer for MIB software configuration & map data update." I will endeavour to find out exactly what the MIB Software configuration actually means! I did raise the issues about map updates, unable to select phone contacts as a destination and also Skoda Connect not sending route information. I will post back when this 'update' has been performed. The Car was delivered December 2020. Amundsen software v0270 and maps are now 20/11 which partially updated just the UK OTA. (Website still shows for my VIN 20/21 and use an SD Card!)
  3. Hi, Anyone had an orange warning flash up telling you to go to a service centre for an SOS error? This has happened twice now in the space of a few days - suspiciously similar areas in London. The eSIM seems to have lost connectivity with both the white globe and hotspot symbol disappearing. It stays this way with the error showing unless the car is locked and left for 30 minutes and it all starts working again. This is on the new Amundsen MIB3 system.
  4. This has been raised on a parallel thread - it is a 'feature' coming soon! (however Skoda define soon)
  5. Any feedback yet? I have also raised an issue with trying to input a destination via the phone contacts and guess what... it says invalid format despite the correct address and post code being displayed on the screen. Standard Samsung Galaxy. They are 'looking into it'! I was hoping this may be a workaround for the lat/lon postcode issues. Just seen the last post which crossed with this one!
  6. Effectively it looks like Skoda want everyone to use their Apple Carplay or Android Auto as their own system is so restrictive. I presume also that unless you subscribe to the Infotainment package AND the eSim data access (after the 1st year) there will not be any realtime traffic displayed either? The whole episode seems disgraceful that customers are treated like this in a period when car manufacturers need every customer they can get. Seriously rethinking my brand loyalty as my Kodiaq is up for replacement this summer and there are many more competitive vehicles emerging now with hassle free internet access options. Stuck with the Karoq for a while which, apart from the dreadful infotainment system, is an OK car, Chris - is it your understanding that the basic, non subscribed eSim will allow access to map updates and traffic info if you just have the infotainment package or will you also need to purchase a data plan after the first year? You seem to know 100% more than any Skoda person who has called me.
  7. I would be happy to also email the product manager if I get no response over the next week. Do you want to message me a private note of the email address? Head of Skoda UK as well? Thanks. Stewart
  8. Thanks Chris. The map update is an interesting question. I had a message flash up saying to update and I selected OK. Over the next few hours something obviously updated as it changed to 20.11 from 19.11. Still not the same as the portal! What is worrying is that during this lockdown most of my phones data usage has been on wifi but during the period the update happened it used just over 3GB of data while connected. Can this be possible over Bluetooth if the Bluetooth has full connectivity? Maybe a coincidence.... Amazing that this MIB3 has been shipping by the VAG group for 6 months now (?) and this still does not work. Fun times ahead for all the cars they will need to update! I would take it now that the system does not work 'as advertised' or 'as sold' so really hope they do a proper fix and do not just hope the issue will go away. The support person was quite adamant that I should send a destination to the Amundsen from the App and as you say, Skoda seem to be totally disconnected between divisions. Thanks anyway for looking at the help section - it was too obvious and I did not expect Skoda to make it that easy!
  9. Hi, Although there are several other threads running about the new MIB3 Amundsen and difficulties, I have found an interesting issue regarding using the connect App and wonder what others have experienced? Garage not that useful and Skoda taking ages to respond and now the agent is on holiday! The Amundsen is registered OK, all services are enabled for the connect options (including destination import) and the Connect App correctly interrogates the unit for trip data, last journey, parked position etc as well as proactive functions such as flash lights. As I did not like the 'new' VAG method of using map coordinated instead of real addresses, Skoda suggested that I try sending a destination to the unit using the Connect App (or the Connect via web browser access) to see how the destination arrives. On both the App and the PC the no destination is received by the car and at a later point an error message is displayed on the app saying that the destination could not be delivered.. Interestingly, the navigation options for a destination only show Favourites, Recent and Contacts from the phone book - no offline options. I reset the head unit by holding the power button for 40 seconds - still the same. Tried also using a WAN connection but nothing. Nowhere in the main menu is there anything to indicate online features (such as Connect Services like on the Columbus). I checked my subscriptions online and as expected Infotainment and Care Connect online expires in December 2021. Also via the Portal, it is not possible to set notifications or generate health reports. The car was delivered in December 2021 and the Amundsen HW is H22, Software 0270 and the maps seem to have partially updated to 20.11 which is still not at the version reported by the update portal but that is another story running an an alternative thread. Any ideas?
  10. Finally a call back but not much use.... They said the gps coordinates were a factory decision to make the satnavs better! No way to change to show a correct 'real world' address. No info yet on how to update maps They said to try sending a destination from the Connect App to the car - The App showed a proper address so hit send to vehicle..... and no destination arrived. The Amundsen has no option to display online destinations. Has anyone else got that working? The VW forums seemed to indicate that using the ESim would not allow you to send destinations from the app - you had to connnect your car to a wifi hotspot! This seems a complete backward step. Not impressed at all and sorry at this point of time to have bought a new Skoda. I expected more.
  11. I agree about the actual cars - this is now my third. The 2 complaints submitted via the web portal have had an absolute zero response - not even an acknowledgement so it is now pen to paper and recorded delivery. The fact that there is no response or acknowledgement is in itself a violation of any QMS complaints process. The Garage seem rather ambivalent and just say that they had noticed this behaviour of the new systems but that's it! I will keep pressuring them as perhaps dealers expressing concerns may have a better voice. I have a friend who is close to journalists in the auto trade so maybe I will raise a flag there - as well as a letter to the Telegraph Honest John column. At the end of the day, Skoda have delivered which is significantly different in form/fit/function from that which was advertised at the time of order. Even a software update to allow the USB C to be used for map updates, import of logos and correct the 'off road' coordinates to real addresses for post codes should satisfy most of the concerns raised here.
  12. One way to possibly attract attention is to write to Skoda and request that the complaint to be logged in their Quality Management System. If they are an accredited organisation, then any complaints MUST be formally acknowledged and addressed. This has worked wonders in the past when things have gone wrong with other companies. Quite often they will put in extra effort to avoid the onerous formal complaints process. Even if they engage in a dialogue then it is better than total radio silence.
  13. Anyone had feedback from Skoda? There seems to be a total lack of customer engagement.
  14. Thanks for that. I had mistakenly taken the free 30 days they previously offered with the voda sim as the allowance. At least OTA upgrades can now be downloaded assuming they address the issues and actually offer the updates as 'optional' and not just the mandatory updates.
  15. I think Skoda need to revisit the Amundsen software and issue a 'free' update either OTA, USB C or garage appointment. Quite how it took such a backward turn from previous satnav devices (Columbus and older Gen 2 Amundsen) is a big question. Even looking at favourite POIs lists the entries in German. Having worked in an IT environment all my life, I am amazed that such a digs dinner of a product actually made it through a proper test process before formal release. At a minimum, Skoda/VAg should, in my humble opinion; 1. Allow map and system updates to be recognised on the main USB C socket. This socket already recognises Android auto and music connections so that should not be too challenging. 2. Fix the post code issue where all destinations are map coordinates shown as 'off road'. 3. Allow an option to install a personal data sim. For the casual user, a couple of hundred MB a month suffice for the additional traffic info and I use EE sims that are £24 for 12 months with 500MB a month. Skoda with their partner want to charge you £9.99 for 30 days on top of the annual subscription for Connect Services. Yes, I know you can use your own mobile as a wifi hot spot but that is not exactly friendly for a non-tech user. 4. Skoda acknowledged that although you can have additional 'users' registered in the car, the Connect App will only work with one car! 6. I am considering buying a small 12v mobile hotspot such as the Huawei E5576 (Amazon £42) and a 12 month data sim like I have for my Kodiaq from EE (EBS Telecoms on Amazon) What is most disappointing is that the test drive which sold us on the Karoq had the Gen 2 system which was streets ahead of this new version. I hope Skoda/VAG come up with a solution and do not simply abandon us as we have now purchased the car. I know that on my Kodiaq there had been updates to the Columbus which Skoda refused to update as the changes were not considered 'mandatory' but luckily I had some issues with the connectivity and another garage updated the complete system, I will watch this thread evolve with interest! A similar thread is also running? Note: I have no affiliation with EBS telecoms or Huawei other than having used their products.
  16. Maybe someone can cross post to the other forums where the amundsen gen 3 is used? The more input to skoda the more chance they might respond to someone?
  17. I think it is actually pretty short sighted of Skoda to tie customers hands this way. Expecting an OTA maps update is crazy - 25GB over mobile? Also, many people will not have a convenient (or fast enough) wifi hotspot to log the car into either. Also, the data plans for the Skoda supplied SIM are pretty high for a casual user. The 'older' system were so much better.... Columbus with 3rd party data sim, updates with SD card - and all this now taken away. I thought Skoda liked the slogan of 'Simply Clever' - not so clever now I think and also the removal of those little extras such as the removable torch in the boot.
  18. I read that the C type USB socket is recognised by the Amundsen system and can also be used to update the maps on the internal SD Card. Maybe a USB stick with the POIs on it can be imported? I will have a look over the next days at this approach for POIs. Interesting how for the 'frequent' or 'favourite' POIs that they are all in German!
  19. Thanks Chris. Email sent to Skoda UK and also the dealer
  20. Watching this with interest. Also I posted about the Gen3 postcode does not show streets - just a position with coordinates. This is not helpful when trying to return somewhere and selecting a destination from a list of coordinates in the 'previous destinations' list. Seems Skoda have taken a step backwards a decade on this approach.
  21. Rather than start a new topic thread, we have just taken delivery of a new Karoq with Amundsen MIB3. I cannot find a way to put a post code in and then get a street address - just coordinates. My other Skoda with a Columbus works just fine. Have I missed something or have Skoda taken a backward step? Having coordinates plays havoc with trying to identify where you have been in the 'last destinations' list! I am also following the other thread about the difficulties in updating maps,,,, it seems that only VW have an update for the MIB3 and Skoda are still stuck with the MIB2 process on their portal.
