  1. this fabia vrs.com site is no longer online I am quoting this post as the links to this defunct site come up on here all the time.
  2. Knock or map sensors giving intermittent readings can cause this apparently without showing up codes.
  3. I thought these were fitted for the rear facing machine gun which was all the rage back in the day in the eastern bloc.
  4. Just an update on this topic... I removed battery and airbox to get access to power steering fluid reservoir and it was low on atf. I checked the rack and pipe work for signs of leakage of fluid but found none so l am putting low levels down to neglect as most people won't pull a car apart to check a fluid level l reckon. I then filled the reservoir to the recommended level and put the car back together after making sure earth points were clean and secure and now a week later my fabia seems to be behaving itself, no more flickering in the lights and power steering seems to be working fine with no loss of steering as before. Also checked for codes and none are present for PAS but there are two for other faults 16500 temp sensor which has been replaced and 16712 knock sensor which could be the cause of lumpy idling. Thanks sepulchrave for your input and if l have to pay £100 for a steering angle sensor l will post my tale of woe on here lol. Colzie64
  5. Warm from top of engine to top of radiator but radiator itself feels cool and no fans operate even with gauge showing 90c ...could be this cold weather right enough thanks for the reply sepulchrave.
  6. 0 views aint going to work so up you go.
  7. That is exactly what its for it directs warm air from the exhaust manifold to the the airbox to aid starting and running in cold weather.
  8. Hi Guys I have got my fabia 8v MPI going again after temp gauge and thermostat renewal but I have noticed that once the car has been started and got up to temp the top hose going into the rad heats but the hose on rad bottom is stone cold. Noticed symptoms 1. hot top rad hose cold bottom rad hose 2. Rad fans not licking in This tells me the thermostat is opening as top hose is heating so I did a search of the forums and here is a list of things checked . 1. No overheating after 10 mile run at 60mph 2. no blow off of coolant level remaining steady 3. temp gauge reading 90c as it should 4.no mayo on oil cap 5. coolant returning to header tank via top hose at operating temp 6. heaters in cabin working 7.opening rad bleeder and coolant comes out My question therefore is this...What is likely to be causing these symptoms? 1.Could it be a blockage? ( keeping mind that coolant does exit via rad drainage tap) 2. Naff waterpump? ( I dont know if plastic impeller issues affect the 1.4 8v mpi lump) 3. Could the cold weather affect the thermostat opening so restricting coolant flow? outside temp between 2 and 6 degrees celsius. All advice is appreciated Colzie64
  9. As regards to the temp sensor I have changed these on both a felly and my furby and the immediate change in mpg is quite significant. On the furby an increase of 10-15 mpg .
  10. that plug is the air con sensor and not part of the coolant system.
  11. Excellent well written guide with pictures to boot...thanks a million vrsfab
  12. If MPI never fitted with ESP then why do I have an ESP light on the dashboard that lights when ignition is turned to one and goes out when vehicle is started?
  13. Thanks sepulchrave..One last question after looking through the threads on here I found a pdf document linked on here that details how the VAG electric power steering works and on there I see that cars fitted with EPC like mine have angle sensor g85 at the back of the steering wheel and all the others have g250 thats mounted at foot of steering column. Is that also the case with the fabia? Thx Colzie64
  14. Excellent thread I am at present dealing with PAS bull***t too but I have learnt at lot from this thread...thanks jvdp
  15. Hi guys Looks like I have a dead steering angle sensor but I want to run it by the skodaisti on here before I start buying stuff that I may not need. Symptoms :- Flickering lights both headlights and internal instrument lights, misfiring, power steering good then nothing. Also when car is stationary but with the engine running as the lights flicker I can hear a cheeping noise which I assume would be the PAS pump going on and off repeatedly...but strangely imo no PAS light showing on insturment panel. My questions are could the PAS pump act like this if it was just the battery failing? and if not how difficult is it to fit the angle sensor on a 2001 8v furbie. Thanks Colzie64
  16. What was the problem and is it cured now? Colzie64
  17. Thanks guys spotted another thread on here with a working rear wash in pics http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/130479-huzzah-my-rear-wiper-jet-no-longer-rotates-with-the-arm/ thanks for the input
  18. I still cant find where the water would come out on the rear of my furbie which leads me to believe my motor didn,t have a rear wash fitted at source. Here are a couple of pics for perusal. underside of wiper cant see any sign of pipe work to deliver fluid to rear screen. rear spoiler with no sign of jet mounting as fitted on felicia models.
  19. Thanks sepulchrave l have ordered thermostat and housing with sensor from fleabay... Thanks for your input. :-)
