  1. hi folks

i have a twin cam 2.0 tdi PD DSG 2006 Octavia and it seems to not want to start properly, sometimes its like the battery is flat or the starter motor is lazy for a second or 2 and then it seems like it doesnt want to start for a second and then jumps into life. i have had issues with the EGR and the ant shudder valve/throttle body and have changed both but it seems to be getting worse.
the engine has lag when you press the pedal as if its thinking about things and then it shoots off especially in reverse.
there is what seems to be a miss or something else causing a judder when stationary or moving as if the revs are going up and down but the rev counter stays the same
these bkd engines according to google do this but it can be 1 of 10 things ranging from the injector/heater loom to blockage in the manifold or even vac pipes etc

i am wondering what measuring blocks to log to test from cold start to warm so that may shed some light on things?
    any help appreciated guys

  2. I have a 7P6 unit that works a treat with my Columbus for phone calls and A2DP audio streaming. I don't have Maxidot so everything Bluetooth related is controlled through the Columbus unit.

Picked up my 7P6 unit off ebay and a wiring harness kit from Carsystems.pl

Great stuff that's exactly what I need because I don't have steering wheel controls either, how much did you pay please?

i am watching this  :p  same as billywhiz no maxidot and no mfsw  etc

  3. i have fitted a Columbus and now want to fit a Bury car kit into the loom

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Autoleads-SOT-976FB-Accessory-Interface-Populated/dp/B005JZ89CM

i have read that the blue plug in my loom is for the cd changer in the boot but that does not show up in the Columbus and that could be to do with the earth wire not being in the right place?

i would like to get the cd changer to be seen if possible and would like to do it while i fit the hands free unit

    any advice or help appreciated

    cheers

  4. Well I have since checked several threads, courtesy of "Google" and they all come up with the same procedure as our Skoda dealers service tech's answer. However some say that as regards step No: 3; after releasing the accelerator pedal, that the vehicle must not be turned off - but started! to do otherwise would "void" the reset. (Maybe I did not remember it quite correctly. My sincere apologies)

I am unable to edit my reply above so here is a modified version of the reset procedure, including the change in step 3:

    1. Turn the ignition on, without starting the engine.
    2. Fully depress and hold the accelerator in that position for about 10 seconds (You may hear / feel a click)
    3. Release the accelerator and start the engine. (do not turn off the ignition prior to starting the vehicle as it will void the reset).

The change would be quite subtle in most instances but I cannot imagine that you would have anything to lose by trying it - Give it a go (and let us all know if it helps!)............Tony

after changing the oil today everything felt better and although i need to take it on a run to get the oil as thin as possible and then any issues show up

i have already tried both ways of doing it as per Google and your posts above Tony and to be honest it does not seem to have made a difference to me as it felt sharper and smoother after the oil had been changed

as RRG says below what i am after is best doing via VCDS and then clutch and pump pressure can be optimised.

thanks for the help i do appreciate the help

Carrying out a basic setting of the mechatronics control module won't cause any issues and is best carried out using odis or vcds.

The pedal action sounds like it might be placed in adaptive drive mode but no basic setting of the clutch ends, gear positions or pump pressures has been performed, all of which should be done BEFORE the adaptive drive.

this is what i want doing James and i am willing to pay for someone who knows how to do it,

i dont think its mega hard for someone who knows what they are doing

thanks for the reply i do appreciate all help

  5. If what you are looking for is to reset the DSG gear box into "Learning Mode"?

This was told to me by our very co-operative service techs. It should reset the DSG to learn mode.

    1. Turn the ignition on, without starting the engine.
    2. Fully depress and hold the accelerator in that position for about 10 seconds (You may hear / feel a click)
    3. Release the accelerator and turn off the ignition. (Job done)

Now take it for a drive, driving as is your normal driving style and the box will relearn your driving style.

Our service techs were explaining to me what they had done when we had the "7 speed DSG oil change" recall done. They are always willing to talk and I asked what the reset involved.

Whilst the instructions are for the  7 speed DSG box, they may well hold true for the 6 speed such as yours. I hope this helps.............Tony

thanks for your input Tony but as far as i am aware from what i have read it doesn't do anything as the only way to make the ECU learn is to do the settings via the VCDS as above but as usual i am quite willing to be educated by people with superior knowledge

the way to do it is with the VCDS and then its not guaranteed to work,

i have today changed the dsg oil and although the oil was very dirty and so was the filter there were no metal fragments to be seen so thats a partial relief,

  6.

At this stage, however, a reset might not be the answer -- the box may be playing up because there is something physically wrong with it, and this should be confirmed by a VCDS scan of the auto transmission module which will show up and diagnose any fault codes that have been stored. There is no point whatsoever in resetting the box if whatever has caused it to show the fault isn't sorted out. Try to get a scan done, and post the results up in this thread.

    Mike

this what to do before going into a specialist next week Mike, if it sorts it then i will be happy but i am not banking on it and then the Mechatronic unit needs testing and the mechanics are last according to the specialist as long as there are no metal fragments in the oil...

  7. i have all these symptoms listed except for the flashing PRNDS

i am changing the oil and filter tomorrow but need the gearbox reset as the above advice and this is what he suggests

i am willing to travel and pay for the right member who is confident they know how to do it as even if i bought VCDS wouldn't have a clue and dont want to screw the box up more than it already is.

  8. Dude, it wsn't to put you off, just more of a "head's up" really. If you're going to learn to use it and use it properly, as others have said, well worth the investment for the knowledge. If all you want to do is turn the seatbelt bong off, then grab some beer and look on the map ;) ;)

According to Google maps, you're only about and hour and a half from Mike Holroyd (Whitby), if you just want some tweaks, he's your Skoda Yoda ;) ;)

i know you were not trying to put me off mate and i appreciate the help and advice

my lad has a 2008 octavia and says he will go halves with me if i want

like you say it is a good tool and if we decide we dont need it or want it we wont loose a fortune

  9. When I dipped into VCDS, I had the chance to observe two of the "masters" at work (Gizmo and Mike Holroyd - both great guys) One of the very first things you learn is "back it up first". Do an auto-scan, and save it, it will contain the current configuration of the controllers. If things go wrong, you've then got a great start to putting them right.

In coding mode, it won't let you do anything that RossTech don't know about.....the boxes you can tick are all available and labelled. The ones you can't see are essentially ones that are unknown. Advanced coding gives you access to these, but basically at your own peril. I recall one member on here sussed some coding for something to do with DRLs using advanced coding. (I can't remember who or what, as it was on an facelift, and mine's a pre.)

I have to say though, if you're only wanting to change a couple of things, getting someone else to do it, will probably be cheaper, quicker, easier than buying the full package.

There is also a 2nd (perhaps more accurate?) definition to the acronym.....Very Costly Dangerous Software. You can (but very very not accidently) access some fairly funky parts of the system......get those wrong and your car becomes an expensive paperweight. Certain values can only be changed in one direction, for example, you can program a maximum speed for the car........useful you may think for letting junior loose on the car.........however, this adjustment can only be made downwards, so if you limit to 70mph, you can't go back up, not even to 71.

VCDS Lite is not very good at doing anything other than reading codes. I don't you can even clear them with it. But it's free and works with 3rd party cables (about £10).

thank you very much for your input i think i may just get an head unit instead lol

  10. Wow......that's a lot of disassembly for a flywheel, turbo and timing belt!

Good to see it's all coming together.

yeah i thought the same as well

the front bumper had to come off anyway because the washers won't work and there we found the mechanism broken so new ordered and he said that he finds it quicker and easier to get the engine and box out than mess around with the gearbox and then mess around doing the water pump and timing belt kit and also with the turbo being suspect he opted to take the lot out and the rear engine mountings were perished
