  1. Hi all.

Just Resurrecting this thread as I'm about to pull the trigger on a used Match 5.4 Mk1 Minus the looms.

Apart from the Loom which comes with the kit, could any of you advise which loom you purchased in order to plug n play with the Skoda/VAG?

Any pics which you might have taken during your install will be gratefully received.

    Thanks in advance.

It would have to be referring to 1.6 TDI,s if the person being told by someone that knows anything that it is 140,000 miles because the TPI is 180,000 miles.

Many thanks for the above Ootohere. I'm feeling a bit miffed now as I'd very recently booked my 100K 1.6TDi in for a Timing Belt replacement at my local independent. They never mentioned this new policy to me 😢

Overkill for sure, but I tend to do it for peace of mind with all new (second hand) cars which I buy.

Guess I should have dived into this forum more beforehand...

  3. Hi all.

Does that (recent)? statement of 140K miles for Timing Belt replacement interval refer to Just Petrol, or both Petrol and Diesel?

I can see that Ootohere has asked the same question...

The TDi Timing Belt also drives the Water pump, whereas with the 1.4 & 1.5 TSi the Timing belt is separate from the Water pump.

Might this have anything to do with this new statement or is it irrelevant?

  4. Hi all.

I've just embarked on a 2016 Superb Greenline 3 Journey.

Now. I know that the Greenline models sit lower than the SE-Ls - the Ride is ok for me, but too low, so I'd like to change the suspension out for SE-Ls.

Preferably just springs alone, but if needs be, then the whole lot.

I have some questions please. I'd really appreciate in advance if anyone can help?

    1. Do the Greenline's also have different, (shorter travel) shocks, or is the difference springs only?

    2. Would anyone be able to provide part numbers for Greenline Shocks n springs please? (Estate).

    3. Would anyone be able to provide part numbers for SE-L Shocks n springs please? (Estate).

Oh.. Any my VIN is: TMBKG7NP2H7037363. (Estate).

Engine is the Super powerful 1.6 DCZA Engine 😆.

    Thanks.

What if the car was priced accordingly? It does not sound like the seller was trying to hide anything so why should he be expected to pay the next owners running costs?

When people try that with me it is the end of the negotiations and I politely explain that my vehicle is not for them, it is often followed by a "Wot, ain't my money good enuff for yer?" to which I respond once again politely in the affirmative.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree here.

I didn't suggest for one minute that the owner was trying to hide anything. Suggest you read my comment again carefully..

What If the car was priced accordingly? Granted, that could well be the case, but if it is, please point me to where the OP says this?

lets put it this way. If you're happy buying a car which looked like it 'might' 'possibly' need a considerable spend on it at some point soon without a price adjustment, then fine, good for you. What works for you doesn't necessarily work for me. We're all different, so each to their own.

  6. Hi there.

Quick question. We know what your mileage is, but what year is your car please? (Edit. Just seen.... 2020).

Personally. Given the chilling response which your seller gave, I'd look to replace ASAP.

This might sound academic now, as you've already bought the car, but seeing as the previous owner has had a bad experience in the past, did it not occur to him/her to replace the Timing belt rather than present the new owner with a (potential) ticking timebomb?

One final thing... Please, please tell us that you managed to negotiate the purchase price down by a suitable amount to help cover the £600+ bill.

Sorry I cant help with a Liverpool based specialist but I'd be really interested to hear how you got on...

I've just been through the exact same thing myself . In my case the water pump just let go, which served as a timely warning to get both cambelt and WP done - this week!

I'm in the market for a used Skoda Superb Estate. Aiming to spend less than £10k. Most of the examples I've found so far with the spec I want (e.g. leather seats, front&rear sensors) are from 2015 and 2016. I've seen several comments here from folks wary of the first couple years of the MK III and it would be better to get a 2017+. Is this a legitimate concern? Any 2015 and 2016 owners here to weigh in on how their cars are running these days?

As an example of what I'm looking at, this 2015 4x4 L&K 2.0 TDI checks the boxes of what I want. Just concerned about the age.

I'll be doing some runs between Italy and the UK with this car and I want something I can rely on.

HI OP. Just interested. Did you buy the car in the end? Thanks

Also call me crazy.... but I have priced up and checked out the viability in the future of retrofitting a panoramic roof :D (Seen as i need the roof painted anyway, why not replace it!)

Errr. What! Thats the first time I've ever heard of this.

At the beginning of this thread I just thought that you were extremely enthusiastic, but now... I'm inclined to agree. You are crazy, but in a good way though 😁.

  10. Hi all. I'm just jumping on the back of this Topic several months later (Sorry OP).

I have the same dilemma. I'm in the process of checking out my next (2nd hand ) car, and I only stumbled across this thread after also buying an hour of eRwin  Time only to find that the

Vehicle Enquiry data function is not available to private users.. Thanks so much for letting us Know ' Pre-Purchase' eRwin.

I'd be very grateful if  anyone on here can help please?

    Here's the VIN..

    TMBKH7NP0H7007128

    Thanks very much in advance.

  11. I'm inclined to agree that those FB Marketplace Mileages are actual Miles and not KM, as shown,

which makes you smile all the more in the knowledge that VAG Diesels, (and Petrol Engines, of course), can be, and usually are with good maintenance/treatment, pretty damn robust, and capable of Galactic Mileages! 🤩

  12. Hi.

This is just my opinion, so I'm sure that not everyone will agree.

I only ever used to drive manual cars, however, my last 3 have all been VAG DSG Skoda 6 Speed.

I've always been concerned about DSG Longevity, but fortunately I've had no issues to justify this. (to date).

Seeing that the car which you're considering has had a lifelong Skoda history (6 DSG Oil Change Services, or thereabouts?).

250,000km = 155,000 miles... Personally that wouldn't be a problem for me at all.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks numskull.

I've never owned a better car.

I hope someone goes to JA they seemed fair on all fronts.

My next Q is how long I keep the car, I see they are good for way beyond 100K miles?

Hi cmw1965. I've decided to repsond to you quicker than the 3+ Months it took to get your last reply 🙂

I rack up miles like there was no tomorrow, generally 700 to 1000 miles per week, and In my opinion (Which I'm sure is shared with many others on this forum), The VAG TDis to tend to be pretty robust.

I'm on my 7th Skoda TDi, and 4 of those have passed 130K  like it was nothing.

I guess it'll be down to regular servicing, regular lengthy drives, Timing belt/Waterpump changes (Which you've done recently anyway), plus DSG Fluid changes also.

Just in the way of a nosey question. if you don't mind... How much did your Timing belt and Waterpump replacement cost? (feel free to PM me if your not happy posting it here).

    Thanks and happy motoring.

It means more if people say what their cars Tank Capacity is given as, it does not include up the pipe.

Then if they started with a bimmed tank how many litres did it take to brim again after the miles covered.

So for reference. I tend not to go below 75miles remaining, 40 minimum Unless I'm trying to prove a point with 'Brim to empty' Range.

My receipts generally show 64-66 Litres on a Fill-up. (I'm assuming that mine is a 70 Litre Fuel Tank).

900 miles to the last tank, mostly motorway. I'm now determined to do a trip and attempt to get 1000 miles

Your figures from a 190TDi are absolutely phenomenal!

I Managed to squeeze 880 out of my 190TDi DSG, also in August.. (Range showed 15 miles left).

I'd be interested to know what your winter figures look like? Mine tend to a be Night and day difference with the winter mix of fuel and colder weather.

The combination of these 2 factors scrubs 100 miles off that range, for me at least.

  16. So as per the OP's original question

Hello all, I currently have a 2014 1.6 diesel golf, 104bph. Looking to switch to something newer and different with more space.  I do a big chunk of motorway miles, around 450 a week so MPG is a big thing for me. The Superb and the larger tank also are attractive!

What sort of MPG are people getting at the moment? In the Golf i'm getting mid 50's but wanting to go better than that!

    Thanks in advance

From Gammyleg's extensive data, it looks like the Superb 3 will at least equal the Golf 3's economy: Very credible performance for such an enormous car!

This might seem like a silly question OP, but have you also considered an Octavia 3 1.6/Greenline? it's in-keeping yet bigger than the equivalent Golf and should be great on Fuel too..

FWIW I used to see 630+ miles easily from my old 2013 Octavia 3 1.6 Non-Greenline, and that car was fitted with the not so nice 5 speed manual gearbox.

I think the 110bhp 1.6Tdi might be slightly more economical than the older 105bhp Tdi, which is what mine was...
