Indeed, there is a list of "Dust-rich countries" specified in a table 2.7.3. UK isn't one of them. In fact the only dust-rich countries closest to Europe are Russian Federation and Canary Islands.

I looked in the Maintenance book from erwin-skoda, doc subscription number D4B802A2B38, edition 10.2017. In section 2.4.4 - "Additional work from MY 2017" - the table says "Replace the toothed belt for camshaft drive - petrol engines with toothed belt": - "Operation in normal weather and traffic conditions (low-dust countries)": "-" (no mileage or time interval specified) - "Dust-rich countries": "Every 120,000 km" (no time interval specified) If anyone got hold of a newer edition of this book please check.

I've been on the phone with a Skoda dealer, I have scheduled service and MOT coming up anyway. I asked about the Cambelt, first they said it's coming up at 5 years/no mileage, but then, when I asked for a quote, they checked with the service came back that the Cambelt doesn't need to be changed on schedule, they said "it's for life"! I'm not sure in this case why some say 5 years and some say don't change. How would you know if it's about to snap?! I mean, nothing lasts forever, or does it? For what is worth, my engine code is DADA and I have a 7-speed DSG (gearbox also without oil change on schedule!).

But a glance at the service manuals for the two engines wasn't that different, and the angles had a tolerance of +/- 1.5 degrees in both cases. Then I looked up my old Diesel Mk2, the price shown by Skoda for cambelt was £970 or £1100 with water pump. I swear I changed it at least twice for less than £500! Then... I looked up a random Golf with the 1.5 TSi EVO engine - and booking from VW was showing £670 for the cambelt. Sorry if any of this is rubbish, I'm not a mechanic. But please have a look and comment!

Thanks @toot spot on! Looks like all these new ACT engines just tuned 5 years old and no one knows how to change the cambelts on them 🤦‍♂️ Maybe I should delay the Cambelt Change, I only have about 25k miles in total anyway... Maybe by next year all dealers will know what they're doing!

It's Jan 2023 now and the Cambelt Change is £950 if you check on Skoda's website for service! Looking on a random independent website, it not much cheaper at £700. My engine is 1.5 TSi ACT, 150PS, I also have DSG if that matters at all. When I got the car in 2021, I asked for a scheduled maintenance list... the Cambelt Change was listed at every 5 years, no mileage, RRP £1150... I thought surely it was a typo and ignored it. I had a Diesel Octavia, 2.0TDi PD, 140PS, that was around £350-£500 to replace with water pump altogether, at Skoda! So my car is turning 5 soon, I wonder what to do, if I should skip the cambelt, try an independent, try to find a Skoda dealer that would do it cheaper?... I mean £1000 why so expensive? what makes this model special compared to others?

I didn't know about these TPIs - from my search looks like they are some internal service documentation, that prescribes the Skoda service what to do, and TPI stands for Technical Product Info. For example: - IF customer complains that the radio is playing when coming back to the car - AND the service can reproduce the bug - THEN update to 0478. I wonder where can we find such TPIs? Maybe in some service manual or online service documentation system? Can it be accessed by us? I wonder if I could search for a TPI that mentions 0480!

Dear friends, I just updated my 2018 Octavia Mk3 FL head unit from 0468 to 0478. I had the car for 1 year so far using 0468 from factory. It has the Amundsen unit (5Q0 035 874 C = MIB2 Skoda Amundsen). I found the FW on the MIBSolution One site as advertised by YouTube. I also updated the maps from Skoda - EC 2022. However as I couldn't find any exciting improvement (faster speed, new feature, or getting that damn health report to work again) - I activated a free 1 month trial for Skoda Connect. 🤷‍♂️ As seen in other threads Skoda Connect works intermittently. I saw the Weather once, and Petrol Prices twice. Also some red traffic on a street nearby. Otherwise it's mostly "No Data Connection Available". Of course, never tried Skoda Connect in 0468 - so now I'm thinking what if it worked better in the old version? 🤦‍♂️ I am now thinking to try an even newer firmware: 0480 - which I also found on the same site - though it is uploaded in some other section and doesn't have the same labels like the others. Probably the uploader was in a hurry or something (see screenshot). I wonder if anyone knows how to tell how genuine these versions are? And which improvements do they bring? (for example 0478 vs 0468 / 0480 vs 0478). Cheers! Cheers!

Hi fellow drivers! I am the happy new owner of a Skoda Octavia Mk3 FL, reg Mar 2018. I also had the Mk2 for the last 10 years. I'm just getting to know the car better. So here comes the silly question: am I missing a cover under the driver's dash panel and under the wheel? I took this photo, it looks very clean and I can see some connectors exposed (other than the OBD2) and I remember in my old Mk2 there was some kind of cover! In the upper left part there was also some kind of fake leather / vynil flexible curtain or trim. I also attached a diagram from Mk2 which might contain the cover which I think is missing on my car. Dear fellow drivers, time to say goodbye to my Skoda Octavia 2.0TDi Mk2, first reg 2007 . For nearly 10 years, 100k miles it took me through to all corners of GB. A very reliable companion, not fussy and quite powerful too! We did have some special moments together replacing the EGR, rear wiper motor, installing various Bluetooth and camera hacks, peek at the OBD port with Torque, upgrade to the ultimate Chinese Android head-unit and debugging the parasites with the ampmeter during the pandemic. But the car is 15 years old now, the service book is now at the last page and maintenance costs start to compare to it's total value. With regret I will sell the car, but - yaay! - I got a younger Octavia Mk3 FL which can't wait to go on the road! I got some valuable help on the forum and didn't give much back so thank you! I have Octavia Mk2 pre-FL from 2007 with Stream MP3 + AuxIn + CD-Changer, no steering wheel controls nor maxidot. Look at the quadlock connector in the picture, there's a blue connector on the right for the CD-changer and AUX-in. And there's an empty slot on the left for a similar connector which is marked in the scheme with pins for "telephone". What is it? Is there any product, maybe some sort of hands-free adapter that I could easily buy and fit in there? Cheers!

Nope. Worst case I would refuse to pay any taxes and then ask for a refund. The seller is still a UK based company. Not exactly customer delight but according to other posts it's not that bad.

OK I bite. Instead of the Kenwood I got Witson B5703 - the latest and greatest Chinese HU: http://www.witson.com/en/displayproduct.html?proID=102525574 I ordered it for £305 from IceBoxAuto but to my surprise, I had to pay £16.50 extra for delivery, and really pay by PayPal to the Chinese factory directly and I have no idea when I'm getting it! Most likely shipped from HongKong. I chose it over the Kenwood because of the lower total fitting price and better integration: it keeps the original Skoda look, and it replaces the Stream without fascia or extra adapters. But it doesn't have DAB integrated or Android Auto. It has MirrorLink though which I think it's the same base technology but less restrictive. And it has a full Android 6.0.1 OS so you might skip the phone mirroring altogether! Also it has better media connectivity: 2xUSB, 1xCard, 1xDVD instead of just Google Play Music. I might buy later some optionals, DAB, dash/rear camera, microphone etc

OK the guys at Connects2 told me that none of the above units will retain the PDC! They said the parking picture that the OEM Stream MP3 shows is an older system of parking sensors that won't work with their infoadaptor. Anyone who managed to keep the parking sensors ever?
