  1. I had a Toyota Aygo for the day today it was not a patch on the Citigo I had a go in recently...it felt and sounded like it was made of tin foil, ridiculously over geared...80 in third ! Wouldn't swap either for my Octavia estate tho'.
  2. That's one reason I'm not swapping my Octavia for a Citigo...I've got a full sized alloy spare.
  3. I'm sorry for sounding like an old record, but I tried Bickerton's in Sheffield today. I explained what my part ex was via the telephone and was told I would be contacted later. I was subsequently offered a very poor price for my car. I then said I would be putting the car on Autotrader...an immediate £500 more was offered...why try to rip me off in the first place? Another sale lost.
  4. I'm tempted to buy Mrs Monkster a new Fabia 1.2 SE model, especially with the pcp agreement they seem to be at a bargain price at the monent. The car it's replacing is a Yaris 1000cc so performance is not an issue. Are they any good ? Regards Monkster.
  5. Yes I know, Mrs Monkster has to wear her granny-pants in the winter if she drives the car !
  6. Hayselden's could have a look at this and might learn a thing or two ! Thanks, Monkster.
  7. I'm sure Mrs Monkster will like the Citigo, same engine as her Toyota 1000cc 3 cyl. Both are a bit slow but do sound nice when wound up.
  8. I posted this thread as I was disappointed with the service I recieved whilst trying to buy a Citigo. I have in the past praised service I have recieved, for instance the excellent Deutsche Mark independent VAG saervicing in Doncaster. Let's not argue Sir Alex Fergusonesque about how many minutes I was left waiting suffice to say I was sufficiently disappointed to put keypad to paper. You infer I'm not being entirely honest...I am keeping my Octavia and will be having a Citigo, trading in Mrs Monkster's Toyota....obviously not with yourselves. I note this had to be brought to your attention, if I was a sales manager I would be scanning all the owners forums as part of my job.I'm sure whoever brought this to your attention will show you how it's done. Monkster.
  9. I had the same problem, just take the car to the dealer and they will sort it. This is not uncommon...have a good check round the car for more rust the likley places are wheel arches and sills. Regards Monkster.
  10. I wouldn't mind being in my Octavia for a long time as you put it....it's got full leather seats which are nice and warm in the winter (heated)
  11. I'm retired so unlike most people don't need a car for work.
  12. My Octavia is an excellent car, I also tried Horton's Lincoln and they were poor, not as bad as Hayselden's admittedly. Having driven a Citigo I now realise how good my Octavia is.
  13. I have been looking for a Citigo to replace my Octavia because I now do hardly any miles and I fancied a new car. I booked a test drive in a Citigo at Hayselden's Doncaster, I attended at the alloted time and...I stood around in the showroom and had to go into the Sales Manager's office to get any attention...everyone else was on their 'phones.(I checked in a mirror to see if I was invisible) The service gent was particularly unhelpful he was the only person there who wasn't preoccupied on a ' phone.he...pointed to a salesman who was on a 'phone. After the very short test drive I was given a derisory quote what my car was worth by a salesman who knew very little about his product.(After waiting for a further 30 minutes in the showroom) I am keeping my Octavia.
  14. Been for a test drive today at Hayselden's in Doncaster....what a joke... left me waiting round for ages beforehand and afterwards whilst deliberating on what my Octavia was worth. Won't be giving them any business, phoned another dealer locally and was offered £900 more than Hayselden's straight away, off there on Sat and will probably buy one. My son bought a Fabia Monte Carlo off them last month and was very impressed.
  15. I'm seriously thinking of swapping my Octavia mk2 tdi, excellent car, for a Citigo as I now do very few miles. Going for a test drive on Friday. i'll probably have one if I can fit my dog cage (and 2 Jack Russells) in the back with the rear seats folded down.
  16. Just come back from a short journey today and both the front and rear offside brakes are binding on, the discs are hot as are the wheels, the nearside wheels are cold. Thought the car was slowing more than normal when off the throttle...any ideas?
  17. JB...yes they were attempting to rip you off. This is sadly common practice, every time I take Mrs Monkster's Yaris in for it's service and MOT, which it always passes I get a phone call after about an hour from the dealer in Doncaster telling me this car has passed but could do with either brake pads/ discs, air con pipe which is split (has been for 4 yrs but still works.) I could list all the things they have said over the years but you'd get fed up reading. Likewise I took my Octavia to F1 for 4 tyres last year, they were the cheapest. They told me I needed discs/ pads and all 4 wheels tracking...lies just to get custom. I was told by the manager there when I questioned it that the fitters were on bonus for all the extras they can glean out of the customers. You were right to be suspicious.Get an opiion off a good independant VAG garage like Deutchmark in Doncaster.
  18. Some good advice there, I've had a 2.0tdi Octavia for 6 yrs now (it's a 55 plate estate elegance with 76,000 miles). The car has been excellent mechanically. However, it has had paintwork done under warranty on the rear tailgate, both front wings and the o/s rear door...all were begining to show rust. I've also seen rust on the sills of Octavias where stone chips have damaged the paintwork. So please check any prospective car thoroughly, also if you have a full service history Skoda will more likely than not honour the 10 yr paintwork warranty. Mine is not dealer serviced as out local one is very poor, it goes to a VAG independent who are far cheaper and know what they're doing which is a bonus.
  19. In reply to the above...do you work for Horton's? They have been useless in the warranty work on my Octavia estate... I would tell you about it but my fingers would be worn out typing.
  20. Horton's of Lincoln...not so sure, they've painted my Octavia 3 times under warranty and it's still rusting. My next car's a Toyota like my wife's 100,000 miles and only had the brake pads and tyres renewed.
  21. Try the car dehumidifier bag from Seal Diving Products of Hull (on ebay) My Octavia estate used to steam up, not now even when I've had 2 wet dogs in the back...(canine variety.)
  22. I've got the estate 2.0 tdi 140 and have not had any of the problems that you describe. Mines a 2005 with 73,000 on the clock (I've had it over 5 years). I'd be looking at the suggestions in the above replies, also what tyres are you on ? I use Uniroyal Rainsports and they are excellent, fantastic grip, quiet and got them for £60 a corner fitted etc.
  23. See my recent post about Horton's of Lincoln and their warranty person who is inept at best Chris Chester.
  24. I have been told by Hortons that Skoda say it does not fall within the category of "Corrosion from within"....Thanks for your advice, I have e mailed Skoda UK this morning and await their reply.
  25. My Octavia tailgate is rusty,I have it painted by Brooklands of Lincoln under waranty twice (badly)via Horton's Skoda dealership across the road. Once in 2008 and again in 2011. The rust has reappeared and now they tell me it is not covered by the waranty ! I have been advised by the warranty person at Horton's Chris Chester to Hammerite the offending area.....any comments please.
